BassCats Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 When and under what conditions do you throw a buzzbait? What weight buzzbait do ya'll throw? Never caught a fish on one, but watched a guy in the club catch 2 ten pounders on choke canyon with one this year. Quote
Brendan Duffy Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 I fish some murky water, so ill throw a buzz early in the morning or in the evening. Theyre really good in muddy water because of their noise. Quote
ABLE2DISABLE1 Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Fish them in different speeds, and tweak the ears on the blades for desired sound; They also can be fished year round. Here's one for ya; Take a 1/4 oz blade off,put a 3/8 oz blade and it will crawl ,and or put the blade from the 1/4oz on the 3/8, and know you can burn it through almost anything. Boogey Man Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Early morning/late evening, but I'll throw one anytime I think the fish are shallow or relating closely to cover. I've caught them in open water on a buzzbait, but I've done better running them by some type of cover like a stump or laydown. Also, try them around any type of vegetation. As far as weight, usually 1/4 or 3/8 oz. I fish a lot of clear water and have better luck on smaller ones. Even a 1/4 oz buzzbait is still a pretty good size lure. I use Booyah Counterstrike buzzbaits, the counter rotating blades keep them from rolling on their sides. Quote
brushhoggin Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 ive always thought this lure is mimicking a cicada(locust, whatever yall call it) stuck on the surface tension. and i know these lures produce year round, just seems like whatever time of year these buggers come out would be a good time to throw one Quote
Super User Catt Posted November 24, 2009 Super User Posted November 24, 2009 My personal preference ½ oz 90% of the time Overcast skies or after dark When the water is not still Late May into early June on grass flats with buck brush Quote
ABLE2DISABLE1 Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Put your tackle in the house, and take the buzz-bait to the boat trolling motor on medium and go parallel the banks all day till you get use to the type of conditions you-ve been bit on.Learn the bait and make a decision,Ive caught them on the banks open water slow Rollin you name it and I'm sure you would like to encounter the same. And no offense practice is perfection. It all comes down to the strike, the excitement in which bait you want to throw.I ten not to, for my shoulders or blown. But will do so when its early morning and mid day, for reaction strikes only, if I miss Ill toss a senko or the opposite flip it, seen as he came up and rolled on it. Super User roadwarrior Posted November 24, 2009 Super User Posted November 24, 2009 Low light, slight chop. 8-) Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted November 24, 2009 Super User Posted November 24, 2009 The only time I've ever had any luck on a buzzbait it was late October-mid November over top of dead grass flats. Intended on crappie fishing with no luck, threw a buzzbait over top of the grass and a few casts later, BAM!!! Caught 2, dad caught 2 and we lost a few more that got tangled in the grass, we would have hooked up with more but they were short striking like crazy that day Quote
ABLE2DISABLE1 Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 If that ever happens again, short strikes, tie a tandem weedless bait hook to your buzz bait hook, with wire Gard,2-4" behind the hook, shorter in cover, and open water longer 6-8" inches. Quote
Randall Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 I will throw them anytime the water is over 48 degrees. My favorite time and conditions would be midday , bright sun, with 80 degree water with a slight breeze blowing. Under these conditions I usually fish it fast and cover a lot of water. Quote
uicdent11 Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Low light in the morning and just before dusk. I throw 3/8 and 1/2 black on black the most. I have had luck with white and chartreuse as well, but black seems to work the best. I have thrown them midday, but prefer other techniques that produce more. Quote
