BUCKrub91 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Anybody from the WNY area? Im looking for some good small mouth rivers/creeks to fish.. they dont have to be deep enough for a boat I have a canoe also I spent allot of time fishing the oak orchard river under the lake alice dam last year out of my boat.. I got some small bronzebacks out of it but mostly caught largemouth bass.. Im thinking of trying the oak orchard above lake alice this year with the canoe but would like some other suggestions as well Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted April 20, 2012 Super User Posted April 20, 2012 ur in my back yard with these inquires i got some spots for ya Glennwood lake, medina - the lake it self blows IMO but when u pull in take the driveway to the left and park at the gate and walk around u will cross below the dam then back up the hill and walk the other side till u get to the power plant. head down the stairs and start tossing tubes and hold on. this is a good spot to wear some sneakers and go wading down stream theres some downed trees that always produced for me. its a bit of a hike but an awesome spot that people over look cuz of the hike. this will take u to lake alice if u wanna walk that far or u can launch off rt 63 and canoe all the way to alice. then theres johnsons creek i know this river like the back my hand i know where every rock and log is in that water mostly cuz iv been fishing it sense i was old enough to hold a pole and iv chased salmon down it for years and then bass iv fallen in more times then i can count. its shallow in spots but iv canoed it and when i hit shallow i get out and tie the canoe to my belt and walk it. the 2 smallies in my avatar were caught in johnsons 3 years ago. go below the falls and work your way downstream if your looking for smallmouth. dont bother going above the falls it sucks the crazy guy out there in the canoe is me i dont catch stuff up there i just like wasting time from work till bed time up there.......................no in all seriousness if ur looking for the brown ones leave the top alone if u want non stop crappie 16"+,Pike and large mouth thats your spot but all the small mouth and in good numbers are bellow. i usually start in town at the falls with spinners and manns -1 cranks tubes get hung alot i will knock em dead there for an hour then get back in the car and park the car and walk all the way down stream to bloods bridge or to my buddys campground by townline/ashford area. dont over look lake alice either iv caught some great fish outa there mostly largemouth but im slowly finding the small mouth hang outs u need a boat or canoe. start at main street bridge at the launch and work ur way down the bank heading west towards kenyonville bridge. theres that huge cliff with some good sized trees in the water hanging off the side. me and J francho hit that spot its like 60 FOW but pitch a tube or football head on the bank and hop it down that bluff i was nailing small mouth there my last two outings a good number in the 2-4# range that goes for both rivers to my avg is 3# i get a good bunch of 5 and 6# ones to not much over 6 though right on that line but still a 6. if i wasnt in Kuwait right now id tell ya grab ur gear id show ya some spots but im out till xmas but nows ur time to get the big girls i caught the two in my avatar and a bunch of others the last week and a half of april so now. Super User ww2farmer Posted April 24, 2012 Super User Posted April 24, 2012 I am also from WNY, don't know much about Claytons stomping grounds tho. I have fshed the Oak orchard once, we did ok. I am south of you guys and stick mostly to the Silver/Conesus/Honeyoe lake area. Any WNYer here has an open invite to come fish off the back of my boat...............except J.Francho.....he has to provide the boat LMAO. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted April 25, 2012 Super User Posted April 25, 2012 I'm surprised you named your one lake you like to keep secret lol Quote
