Your Favorite Rod You Own?

We all have a favorite rod and the reasons for it being a favorite are probably as varied as the rods are. I've attached some pics of my favorite. I'm not sure of the exact age of this rod but I know it's over 30 years old. My dad built it back in the '80s when he was into building custom rods. I'm not sure of the components in it but based on what he liked to use I'd guess it's a Fenwick blank with Fuji guides and reel seat. The grips are dense foam rubber that my dad custom shaped. It's 7' long (I wish it was 6'6" but oh well), fast action, medium flex. The bottom wrap is a totally wicked thunderbird pattern which I have always loved since I was a little kid.

Between my dad and myself, this rod has probably caught somewhere between 500-1000 fish over the years including everything from crappie to cobia. It's still in very good shape and it could easily catch another 500+ fish without a sweat. I just wish I had a kid to hand it down to!

My favorite is St Croix Avid 8' Medium-Light Moderate spinning rod. The action, versatallity, sensitivity, feel-lightness ballance, its my most used rod. Like yours the range of fish, gills to cats it just works. I got it for my 10year wedding anniversary. I looked and looked for this particular model drove 70miles to a Gander Mnt and the moment I picked it up I was like yep this is it. Ive since got a Legend Elite but still this Avid is what I go to, want to be fishing with.

It's not an ideal rod if you need to feel what your bait is doing, but it's an absolute blast for catfish or bluegill...and it'll easily fit under the seat in a compact car or in an overnight bag along with a small box of terminal tackle.

Favorite rod would have to be the Loomis IMX MBR844c. Reel, Quantum Tour KVD PT. I have had the rod for over 15 years and its still kicking bass and now that I jinks myself I better order another one just in case. LOL I wish Shimano would have left the rod alone instead of changing the guides from Pac Bay to Fuji and changing the reel seat but hopefully the blank is still the same.

Hmm this might sound weird but a Kwik Stik Classic 6'6" Medium 2 piece glass spinning rod. I found it in a trailer last year after I lost all my rods. Even though I have bought new rods I can't stop using it. It has big heavy eyes that just seem to enhance the wobble huge on cranks . It's a really ugly green and slightly rusted so the people I fish with hate it expecially when I out fish them with a beat up rod I found in a trailer.

Not an "oldy" by any means, but my all time favorite is the NRX893. Like it so much I had to get one in blue and green.

If you asked this last week I would have said without a doubt my St. Croix premier 5' ULM, I have caught more fish on it than any other rod I own since it was the most enjoyable. But, since I ran into a huge carp with my Avid 7' MHF and fought with it for over 20 minutes and the battle for lost and gained ground was 10 feet many times, I have to say the Avid now.

And don't get me wrong, I am NOT a fan boy of G Loomis rods. In general, their pretty nice I guess... overpriced.

But anyway, my favorite rod on the planet, which I have used for nearly everything from Bluegills to Sturgeon, are my G Loomis SR720's They are in the GLX series, so they are only like $110 (cheap, for Loomis) and they are a 6ft, 1 piece, rated for 1-4 lb mono. They just have such a sweet bend They are also very well suited for use with a 1000 series spinning reel, and 2 or 3 lb diameter, 10 lb test braided line.

I've owned 3 of them.

One got broken by a Halibut, but not how you think I had landed this big, bad-azz CA Halibut {IMPO, better eating than Alaskan Halibut, even though they don't get as big} I think it was 16 lbs. So I net it, set my pole down in the boat, bring the fish into the boat, and it immediatly starts beating the living $##@ out of the boat deck, as it slowly worked its way over the top of my pole, and..... Oh SNAP ! I'll tell you one thing though, that fish paid with its life ! And I still got the rod replaced for half off

Oh, I've caught a bunch of big LMB on them too. Several double digits I know, but at least one 13 lb'er.... Small fry though, compared to 100 to 150lb+ Sturgeon < Those are a real challenge

If G Loomis ever stops making this rod, I will sell my truck, and by the last 50 of them LOL

I have 2 rods that hit that water with me each time I go and both are spinning rods, the first is a Cabelas XMLTi 6'8" M/F paired with a Pflueger Supreme XT. This combo is super light and sensitive and its spooled with 30# Power pro on one spool and 6# Flouro on the backup spool. The second combo is a Field & Stream Tec Spec 7' MH/F rig&jig rod paired with a Quantum Kinetic PTi-B20. This rod has really surprised me being a budget rod but it is perfect for its intended usage. I've learned to fish the fat ika and senko on this rod and can feel the lightest of bites with mono and it has plenty of backbone as well. Strong and sensitve and a great price as well.

I have 4 of those babies!!! I love them!!!!!! I have a Daiwa millionaire on my packers, I've caught stripers, snappers, a baby shark and catfish on those!!
