central.PA.bass Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 So my Revo winch just started having a problem. When I depress the thumb bar to make a cast it doesn't seem to lock down the whole way. And when i do start reeling in, it seems to click a couple times and if i manually slide the thumb bar it up will finally engage and allow me to reel in the slack line... Any clue what this could be and what parts I will need to fix it? it is almost like the thumb bar isnt sitting tight because even when it isnt depressed, there is some play and doesn't seem to be sitting perfectly flush.. it has a bit of a tilt to it.. outdoorsman110 Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 It's your clutch wheel, order a new one, they cost about 3-6$. The clutch wheel can wear down after a while. It's the most popular part that needs replacing in baitcasting reels, I replace the clutch wheels in all my BCs every winter. At least that's what I think... Don't hold me on it. DVT knows for sure. He described what the problem was and for 90$ shipped I had to give it a try... I know it will be a cheap fix just wondering if I could do it myself (I do my own cleaning) or if i should send it to a professional.. Quote

Check the schematics and then search the spring and clutch wheel on Mikes Reel Repair site, you can order the parts there. Or from DVT, I don't know if he has a parts catalog. It's probably the clutch wheel that's causing you the problem, especially if it's a cranking reel- winch. Quote

I'd be looking for missing yoke springs, work kick lever, gummed up clutch parts etc. If you have confidence to disassemble and reassemble just make sure you have a schematic and take a full part inventory as you go. Skip Mike's and order direct from ABU. I'm happy to all through it too if you'd like - $16.20 plus parts and shipping Quote

outdoorsman110 Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 You can find the schematics online, I am unsure of the part #. It should be under the main gear, it's a disc with teeth, if you already know what the clutch wheel is you should be able to talk to DVT and he'll give ya the #. Quote

With there being an issue on both engagement and dis-engagement, I do not think that the problem is going to be with the anti-reverse ratchet, as it only comes into play on re-engagement. Like DVT I am betting on problems in the clutch assembly itself. Quote
