So my Revo winch just started having a problem. When I depress the thumb bar to make a cast it doesn't seem to lock down the whole way. And when i do start reeling in, it seems to click a couple times and if i manually slide the thumb bar it up will finally engage and allow me to reel in the slack line... Any clue what this could be and what parts I will need to fix it? it is almost like the thumb bar isnt sitting tight because even when it isnt depressed, there is some play and doesn't seem to be sitting perfectly flush.. it has a bit of a tilt to it.. Any input?

It's your clutch wheel, order a new one, they cost about 3-6$. The clutch wheel can wear down after a while. It's the most popular part that needs replacing in baitcasting reels, I replace the clutch wheels in all my BCs every winter. At least that's what I think... Don't hold me on it. DVT knows for sure.

Under warranty still? The thumb bar is attached with a screw, sometimes it cracks at he attachment point.

J francho, No it is not under warranty.. I actually bought this reel from a member on another site.. He described what the problem was and for 90$ shipped I had to give it a try... I know it will be a cheap fix just wondering if I could do it myself (I do my own cleaning) or if i should send it to a professional..

Also, did not notice any cracking..

Clutch wheel? Check to see if it has wear.

It does have some wear.. Also, is there a spring I could replace also?

possible... Check the schematics and then search the spring and clutch wheel on Mikes Reel Repair site, you can order the parts there. Or from DVT, I don't know if he has a parts catalog. It's probably the clutch wheel that's causing you the problem, especially if it's a cranking reel- winch.

After like 5000 reels serviced, I can honestly say I've never had to replace a broken or worn spring in a bait caster. Lost a few? Sure. But that us a part that doesn't fail.

The only way to know for sure is tear it down. I'd be looking for missing yoke springs, work kick lever, gummed up clutch parts etc. If you have confidence to disassemble and reassemble just make sure you have a schematic and take a full part inventory as you go. Skip Mike's and order direct from ABU. I'm happy to all through it too if you'd like - $16.20 plus parts and shipping

I dont have the schematic that the reel came with.. can someone please tell me the part number for my clutch wheel?

Posted

You can find the schematics online, I am unsure of the part #. It should be under the main gear, it's a disc with teeth, if you already know what the clutch wheel is you should be able to talk to DVT and he'll give ya the #.

This thread has me interested, any updates on what the problem was, and how it was corrected. With there being an issue on both engagement and dis-engagement, I do not think that the problem is going to be with the anti-reverse ratchet, as it only comes into play on re-engagement. Like DVT I am betting on problems in the clutch assembly itself.

Probably as Mike (DVT) noted gummed up mechanics, with aged springs.

A proper fix complete brake down, deep clean, and proper re-lube (I doubt it needs new springs).

Send it in ........... :Victory:

Tight Lines!! :fishing1:

Yep, the metal piece on the bottom right is probably the issue. I've replaced more than a few.

The strike plate edge miraculously is hardened steel now, lol. You'll can see a difference in the materials used.
