buzzfrog Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 first ?? is easy, whats the point of using split shot while fishing worms, just for a very light weight? second what do you consider the main factor in carolina rigging, gonna give it the ole collage try again. and i was wondering, is it the barral swivel or the bead. Talked to a guy that uses brass weights but pegs em up his line at any desired lengh. So technically it is a T rigged but pegged about 10 inches above the hook. Would this work, When tried C riggng for a bit i went all out brass egg, usally 1/2 ounce, most times a bead and about a 7 inch leader to my bait. whats your opnion on these?? thank ya Quote
Bass Dude Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 1. To me, using a split shot is a finesse c-rig. Same principle as the c-rig, but you would normally use a small bait along with the split shot. 2. I don't know if I understand your question about the "main factor" in the c-rig. But for the me, the main factor in the presentation is the leader length. You stated you use a 7 inch leader...I never go under 18 inches. I usually start out with a 3 to 4 foot leader and go down from there. I will shorten it if I'm trying to drag the rig through a lot of cover because you have more control with the short leader. I always use a "traditional" c-rig...I don't peg my sinker up the line. I like the "tick" sound you get by having the bead-sinker-swivel combination. As far as material of the sinker, I use tungsten. I used to use the brass weights, but I like the smaller size and the sensitivity of the tungsten. I haven't noticed much of a difference in success with the tungsten, it's just a preference thing. IneedAnewScreenName-972354 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 The beads on the carolina rig serve two purposes. One they help protect the line knot from abrasion that can come from contact between the weight and swivel. Second they produce a clicking sound when twitched that can help draw the attention of a Bass and help it find your bait. Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 18, 2012 Super User Posted April 18, 2012 In my tiny mind the main factor of the Carolina Rig is the entire setup Weight: heavy enough to maintain bottom contact Leader: lenght is essential to producing bites Glass bead: fish attracting sound Lure: unlimited selection Quote
buzzfrog Posted April 18, 2012 Author Posted April 18, 2012 thanks for your imput, i do use tungston when i get a chance to get to a boat, lol on the shore, i lose alot, of lead and brass, in all lead packets i get it says it causes cancer, welp every bass in my area probably has it from me.... yea BAD joke, same thing with the 7 in. i do go up to 15 in. Once in a while but again throwing from shore. 90% i do use a bead. Just wondering about the T rig version of the C-rig, if i loose a rig on the shore, the pegged version sounds easier to re-tie Quote
