Just curious , we had a tie in our club for 8th place and both got awarded 8th place points then went on to 9th position and on...(keep in mind we are a new small jon boat club 1yr old going in 2nd season so not all rules have been ironed out so to say) and we never had a tie. One of the guys brought up since it was a tie there should be no 9th place points and should go straight to 10th place. I've read other similar clubs rules and they have tie breakers as in who catches either the biggest fish or the most fish weighed out of the 2 teams. What is the most common rule in this situation?? should there be a next position after a tie or skip one or do tie breakers and dont even have a tie? what are your thoughts?

In my club ties a broken by biggest fish.

But left as a tie for 8th, the next position should have been 10th.

Big bass breaks ties is how most clubs do it.

Down here the only time a tie breaker is used is for first, everything else would be 8th twice & then 10th.

Catt, What if theres money involved?

In the classic Ike an Takihiro were tied on day 2 each with a total weight of 23.12 Fighting for 25th place and to compete on day 3. Takihiro had big bass and advanced. Ike did not.

Here is how I would do it on a points system.

1st place gets 20pts

2nd gets 19

3rd gets 18

4th gets 17

5th gets 16

6th gets 15

7th gets 14

8th gets 13 and so on, but with the tie I would give angler 1 and angler 2 to the points for 8th and 9th place and split it between the two

1st - John 20pts

2 - Steve 19pts

3 - Dave 18pts

4 - Ed 17pts

5 - Jim 16pts

6 - Bob 15pts

7 - Nate 14pts

9 - Dusty 12.5pts

Sam 12.5pts

10 - Chris 11pts

That is how I would score it
