Anybody tried this ultralight version yet? Just picked one up and wondering if it will hold up as a smaller umbrella rig for bass.

I got it at Walmart for like $8. It came with some panfish jig heads and grubs but the wires seem to be same size in diameter as the regular one and probably about 3" long. Here's some pics Next to a regular one. I plan on throwing it Saturday on a medium heavy rod.

my state has a three hook limit. do you guys think i would be better off with a regular 5 armed model and put two blades with no hooks on it, or just get the tripod and have three hooked baits.

the 5 arm would look more like a school of fish, but would i have a hard time hooking fish because of the two baits without hooks?

Hey guys I thought I'd give ya an update on this lure. I got out to throw it around off a dock today and let me tell ya I was impressed. I had it tied onto a tournament edition pq 6.4:1 mounted on a 7'3" mh f vendetta casting rod and spooled with #15 vicious fluorocarbon. I put on 1/16 ounce jig heads with 3.5" doa shad on it. The rod and reel setup handled it well and it casts like a dream. Felt a lot like throwing a deep diving crank bait. You can cast this thing anyway you want. No need to use a lob technique with this thing. I was actually backhand roll casting most of the time just because of the way the dock was, but you could go side arm, overhead, or however you choose. Another great thing is that you can cast it accurately. I was casting it at another dock and could easily get it within a foot of the front of the dock. It feels solid on the retrieve and have no doubt that it could handle bass. The only drawback that I could think of is that 3.5" swim baits is probably as big as you can throw on it. But I'm gonna test this theory tomorrow with some 5" swimming flukes. If you are looking for a multibait rig that wont wear you out and you don't need specialized tackle to throw then this is what you need. Well worth the $8 price tag. Hopefully tomorrow when I go out tomorrow on the boat I can get some bites and let you know how it handles the fish.

3 baits and 2 willowleaf blades seems to be the way to go in that instance. They seem less inclined to hit the blades than they are to hitting a bait with the hook bent in but it still has a lot of the same fish attraction that another bait would have.

I am not have a problem with fish hitting the baits with the bent in hooks. Run less weight on the the bent hooks and tune the rig by bending the wires. The baits will the open hooks should run on the bottom. The other option is to use screw locks.

I'd like to see someone that knows what they're doing (not me) test the 3 bait vs 3 bait w/2 blades, vs 5 baits w/2 dummy hooks using the same baits. I've used a 3-rig and a 3/2 blade combo and the combo seems to get a little more action. Haven't tried the 5/2 dummy rig yet, and this is a tough time of year for me to try things out when other "proven" methods have been a lot more productive for me than the Cali-Bama rigs. So far my success rate has been pretty low with these rigs.

No I haven't caught a fish on it yet but in all honesty I haven't fished allot either. Since I got a new job I have only been out a handful of times. I do try it every time I go out but after a few minutes I try something different. I still think its a great alternative to the regular 5 arm version if you don't like chunking big heavy baits. I will keep on tryin with this little thing and hopefully one day I will get a bite.

I got one that I rigged up with some Berkley Realistix 3" Shad. Keeps the rig light weight, much more so than rigging it up with 1/8oz jig heads and the LFT Magic shad I had on. This will be my go to for the summer.

Love the idea of this, gonna have to pick one up and also like the idea of running the Realistix on it. i haven't tried any type of A-rig because i do not want to worry about gear to handle it. But this sounds like a great alternative.

Yeah, I picked one up the other day and put some 1/8" Strike king jig heads and some 3.5" Havoc Grass Pigs on it.  Going to Table Rock in a few weeks where they are hammering them on the A-rig lately and I'll have to see how this smaller rig works out.  Hopefully they are still biting when we go.
