llPa1nll Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Hey Guys, Let's not make this political, I just want people to be aware of what is happening, I also want to give people an option to attend or email those making these very important decisions. I thought you would like to know that the powers that be are trying to restrict the use of lead further form the existing laws. With the NH Senate Bill 224 will restrict the size of jigs from 1" along the longest axis to 2.5". Which would then make most of the jigs we use for bass fishing illegal. Make sure to contact all of your representatives and members on the House of Representatives Fish and Game Committee. This is how the bill reads on the NH Goverment website here is the link here. 1 Lead Fishing Sinkers and Jigs. RSA 211:13-b, IV is repealed and reenacted to read as follows: IV. For purposes of this section, “lead sinker” is defined as any sinker made from lead that weighs one ounce or less. A “lead jig” is defined as a lead weighted hook that measures less than 2 and 1/2 inches along its longest axis. Prohibited tackle includes lead sinkers weighing one ounce or less and lead jigs that measure less than 2 and 1/2 inches along the longest axis, including those painted or coated with another substance, or those with attached skirts. Lead sinkers and lead jigs shall not include lead fishing-related items including, but not limited to, lead core line, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, spoons, poppers, plugs, or flies. I ask all fisherman in NH to attend the Legislative Session Tuesday, April 24, 1pm House Fish & Game & Marine Resources, LOB 305-307, SB 224, relative to lead fishing sinkers and jigs. Voice your concerns over this new ban. If you can't attend please email the 18 members of the House of Representatives Fish and Game Committee. You can reach all 18 members of the committee using the following email address HouseFishandGameAndMarineResources@leg.state.nh.us. I hope we can rationally talk about this topic and not get this thread locked down as it is very important. Quote
NBR Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 I sent my position on this issue and I will attend Tuesday's meeting. Quote
llPa1nll Posted April 23, 2012 Author Posted April 23, 2012 I sent my position on this issue and I will attend Tuesday's meeting. Thanks NBR, I hope more people follow your lead as this is a very important issue that would have dramatic effects on our wallets replacing the majority of terminal tackle. I also hope others follow your lead on this issue and do the same and voice their concerns. Quote
llPa1nll Posted May 17, 2012 Author Posted May 17, 2012 Just thought some would like to know that this bill was sent too "Interim Study", which for all intended purposes means that it is dead for now. It can be added to another bill and can be brought back in 2013. Thanks for those that voiced their concerns and contacted their reps. Quote
