Cumara Vs Loomis Imx/glx...

...does it stack up?

I saw a review TT did about 4 years ago touting it as being as light and sensitive an IMX or maybe slightly above.

I had one back around that time in a spinning configuration (cumara 6'8" MH)...but sold it and got another Loomis.

i also heard that Shimano changed the rod/blank in 2010/11 and heard it wasn't as good anymore?

For those of you who have fished both; and have a lot of experience with each, is the Shimano Cumara worth buying over an IMX?

I'm guessing no...but they have a 7'2" Med EX-Fast, which intrigues me b/c I like the longer rods, and IMX isn't offered in a 7 ft Med action, only the 843 (MH)......

I have a 6'10''MH/F Cumara and have had IMX Loomis(which I sold) and now have GLX. While the Cumara is a good rod, and I use it frequently, it does not compare to my glx. I was NOT impressed with my IMX and sold it having only fished it 3 days. For the money($200-250) I would go with the cumara, but comparing it to a GLX is apples to oranges.

I've never heard GLX being that much more sensitive than IMX, but I've only owned one IMX a custom built popping rod for drop shotting that I accidentally broke years ago. But most people say that the difference between the two is barely distinguishable; I've often heard the IMX is the best price point for Loomis rods. But agian I can't speak from experience because all of mine are GLX's that I now own or custom built NFC rods (Gary Loomis' new company).

I'm trying to decide on a rod that is less expensive than my others to put a spare Curado E on...thanks for your input.

The Cumara stacks up to both in terms of sensitivity, really. The GLX is slightly lighter in weight, but recently, even the Cumara has better finish, imo. The wraps are good, the seats are good, the guides are superior. I prefer the grips on the Cumara. I won't get into warranty, because they're essentially the same- it breaks, it's going to be replaced so long as it's not stupidity. On the breakage note, I've had zero issue with Cumara breakage, and I've fished them since their release. I'd go so far as to say that I have more Cumara than any other single series. I have at least duplicates of most of the bottom contact rods, in some cases three and four. In the Reaction series I have seven or eight of them. I like them not only because of their price point, but they've been very durable for me. Others have reported lots of breakage, I've yet to break one in any circumstance that wasn't my fault. IMO, the difference between the GLX and IMX isn't HUGE but it is noticeable. Step up the NRX from the GLX and it's gigantic. Just like stepping up to a high grade custom will blow most high end rods out of the water. (Even though I own many NRX, I still don't feel the price is justified.) In the end, in the rods in the series that work for me, and my purposes, I've purchased. From here forward, though, I'm moving more and more towards customs because of the tolerances and specs you can manage with them. You can get EXACTLY what you're after.

For what it's worth (never had a loomis) but I do have the 7'2" MH XFast cumara and I absolutely love it. Paired up with my quantum smoke it's the most comfortable/ most reliable setup I have. Love it for jigs

I've only had a Loomis IMX, but that's been years ago but I do have a 6' 8" M/H fast Cumara with a Metanium Mg7 on it and a 7' 2" M fast Cumara with an Aldebaran Mg on it and They are my favorite rods to fish with and have had those rods bout 4 yrs now without an issue whatsoever,I wrap the foam grip(they are slippery to me) with rescue tape and love em! Flash, did you get your Core 101 yet? Pics w/ new handle?

Thanks...helps to get a vote of confidence from someone who has both brands (even though it's the same company now Loomis is still American made in Woodland, WA)...I like your points on the quality...but don't agree with the guides being superior, as GLX and the Cumara both use Fuji SiC's--unless of course you're referring to the IMX series which I believe still relies on Alconite...which will handle most anything, but isn't as nice as SiC.

Hooligan does the foam grip hold up? that's what scares me most, because from having one custom done poorly I've learned that cork/grip/handle is the hardest part to replace b/c to really be done right the whole rod must be stripped.

Also do you have any experience with the Cumara 7'2" Med Ex-Fast jigging rod?..I'll be pondering for a while...just hard to step away from Loomis...even though they don't have the length and power I need, and I have too many customs going right now...my builder is starting to get tired of taking my phone calls on rods:)

The SIC guides on the Cumara are superior to that of the IMX, you got what I meant. The Grips and handles are quite durable, and they're completely unlike any of many other grips that get slimy and lose their grip when wet or with sweating hands. I've had no issues at all with them.

The CUCX72M is a great rod for 3/16-3/8 ounce jigs, and light T-RIgs. It's one of my favorites. It's got plenty of power to handle good fish, and it's got more than enough blank to cast those lighter baits easily. I usually have two of that rod in the boat, as it fits that specific need better than most other rods, for my feel and the way I fish.

I have a 7'2" Cumara M/XF and it is a pretty nice rod. I havent found a specific use for it yet though. I have a 7' MH/F Avid for T-Rigs and I feel that the Avid is a little more sensitive in my hands, but I would rather the extra 2" of the Cumara for it. I have throw wacky worms and jerbaits on the Cumara and it hanled them decently and alos chatterbaits. To me, the 7'2" Cumara is a great all around rod and can handle most anything you put on it in the >3/8oz range. It is comfortable to fish and I would say that I would buy it agian.

Flash, before you commit, go to a store, with the reel, and mount it to the rod. The Cumara has a very small grip. I don't have the rod you're asking about; I have the 6'8" M-XF. Had it for two or three years, and almost never use it. It's light, sensitive, good components, excellent fit and finish; I like everything about it except the way it feels in my hands. The grip / reel seat is way to small for comfort. I need to sell it off and get something I will actually use.
