Always wondered. Let's say you are fishing and for some reason, a possible tragedy strikes. You either are stuck on a limb in the boat sticking out of the water, or in a spot the fish might get hung while reeling in at the pond shore, etc., and then you set the hook on a HUGE bass. Would you swim in and get the fish "thumb in mouth" or not?

I have done it and would do it again if i thought it was a slob.

I've done it, even for a four pounder once when it was hot out and she had my only silver blue skitterpop. As long as it's warm enough.

I dove the Lake Worth spillway for my castnet.

I dove the ocean off the Breakers to free the anchor. (Dumb ars friend anchored on the reef).

I've gone in the lake on more than one occasion to retrieve a bass, be it a hawg or my only lure.

I even jumped into the ocean when the land was out of view and the water depth was over 1000'. (talk about feeling completely vulnerable)

i've been in the water twice while fishing. once on purpose chasing a rod/reel and once was from taking a back step on a hook set to far lol. the time i meant to jump in wasnt that bad it was on lake conway which is crystal clear water but the other was on the st johns and unexpected. i was back on the boat so fast my boxers were still dry, dirty but dry lol. i think it would have to be determined on a case by case basis for me speacilly when you live in fl.

I used to wade the St Johns all the time. Miles and miles of wading, catching bass.

Couple years back a buddy, his son, and I were fishing Fork when we saw a four foot 'gator hanging out about 50 feet away. Took a while to recognize it, only his snoot was showing, looked like a log.

Then as luck would have it I ran smack into a stump with the TM and went off the bow into the water. Hadda swin around the boat to get back in. It was a pretty fast swim.

I read where 'gators had been found in New Jersey by the way - don't know if you're in Canada or where that you don't have 'em.

well we hydroslide, ski, and swim in the bayous and lakes we fish in so its not an issue. I had to go in about 3 weeks ago in a grassy bay thats about 4 deep with a foot of mud. I had my swimbait setup go in some kinda way. My only mistake was to not go in right away and wind blew us off spot. I jumped down and hit a waypoint. Got down to undies and hopped in. After dredging for about 20 minutes I found it. Was getting worried though. It was a Revo Inshore on a veritas rod.

just got to get in and don't think about it. My buddy wanted to film and put on youtube.. told him you bust out that phone and your coming swimming

One of the reasons I would go in if it was safe is because if I didn't I know I would live with the regret. And face it, even a good lure may have to come back home at the expense of my were clothes. Not to mention if a huge bass is hooked and my line is snagged on a structure of some sort. :-)

I've swam there a couple times recreationally even been on the rope swing a couple miles up from the 44 boat ramp in deland but to fall in on accident with no time to look around and make sure gatorzilla isn't seasoning me in his mind is another story. There's a few places on the st johns I would swim but where we usually fish are some pretty sketchy areas.
