So I'm on day number three without a smoke now. All I can say is this sucks. I've warned my daughters to just try everything possible to not tick me off for the next week.

Quitting smoking combined with a big diet change is a recipe for straight up SUCK! I know it's worth it, but yeesh. I'm ready to beat the snot out of something. I'm looking very, very forward to going to the gym tonight to pound on the heavy bag for a while.

Chantix for 2 weeks and now 8 months without a cigar or a chew.

Good on ya for quitting though. I know it sux but it will be worth it.

Good luck. Stick with it, you'll never regret it. I gave up smoking after 25 years and also lost 55 pounds after making permanent changes in my eating habits. However, your job is even tougher because mine didn't happen simultaneously.

Keep it up its worth it and also take up the sport of shooting because that will relive some stress

Appreciate it guys. I slipped a tiny bit this afternoon after the kids drove me off the deep end. Had two drags and said screw it and tossed the rest. I'm just hoping to get done with the first week. Working out a lot more sure as hell is helping. Today was a rough day though, just a bunch of stuff combined into one beating of an afternoon. What can you do though. Could always be worse.

Dont worry man, you can get past it. It sucks in the beginning obviously but it is worth it. I work with respiratory equipment and when i started 3 years ago i started seeing patient after patient and just about every single one of them asked me if i smoked and told me stop. I have a first hand look day in and day out of how hard it is to be on oxygen from smoking for 45 years, and in some cases only a few years. Having to wait on oxygen tanks to get to your DR appointments or having to call me at 2 am because your concentrator stopped working and you cannot breathe.

After 6 months into my job i quit. Then would get ticked off or something go wrong or get hectic and start again. I went back and forth for about another 5 months of a week off and 2 days on. Or i would buy a pack smoke 2 and get mad at myself and throw them away only to buy another pack the next day. 1 day i woke up and couldnt seem to catch my breath, figured i would be fine as the day went on i thought nothing of it. I went almost 24 hours without being able to comfortably breathe. That was my wake up call for good. I felt the way my patients felt for just about that whole day and couldnt imagine feeling that for the rest of my life. Havent touched one since and i am so happy i quit.

You will start to notice things that you didnt before you quit like the smell of smoke. Walk past someone who is smoking or has been smoking and it stinks so bad, then you think to yourself man i used to smell like that all the time?! My taste buds changed alot too. Not that i necessarily liked or disliked foods, but i can taste them better.

Good luck man and DONT GIVE IN!!!! You dont want to have to drag a 5 lbs oxygen tank in a cart behind you while wearing a nasal cannula wherever you go.

Hang in there man. I quit several times before it finally took...the only thing that sucks more than quitting, is smoking. Good luck.

Hang in there... I quit dipping again for the new year...it sucks but now I am good to go, I think!

What no one told me was that the crazy urges to have a smoke only last about 5 minutes. Once I discovered this, it was easier to quit. Just tell yourself, the feeling goes away.

So far so good. I can't tell how gross it was realizing how much crap I was coughing up after my run this morning. Looked like something out of an alien movie. I was waiting for it to look at me and start talking. Definitely getting easier to breathe. Thank God.

Thats a great point. I took each craving one at a time. With each one you weather, over time the more infrequent they'll be. I've been smoke free for 3 years now (after 15 years of a pack a day), and have zero desire for them anymore. Do what you can to limit access to them. DONT, I REPEAT DONT KEEP THEM AROUND YOU. I found popping a breathsaver with each craving helped alot. YOU CAN DO IT MAN!

Lol Craww.

I figured I might as well go whole hog and just make a radical change and really start working out. I've always heard of the X amount of pounds people gain after quitting. Eff that, I'm big enough as it is.
