That was exactly my plan.......my backup was to fill it all with cheap backer, put on 3/4 oz weight and throw it as far as I could. Then peel off a couple arm lengths more, then fill with braid. That must be the redneck way huh?

75 yards will give enough braid for a season's worth of reties. Plus, 150 and 300 yard spools get divided up evenly.

I think the filling station is a nice way to load your reels and have a bit more organization, I'd considered it. I don't really see the need for all this measuring, once you have done a few reels you should be able to eyeball the amount of backing you want to use. I know many use 50-65# braid on b/c, that stuff isn't that thin, I'd just go straight braid, won't have that much on the reel anyway.

Hello, I use something called a Spoolin Buddy I actually own 2 of them, they hold any where from 4 to 15 spools of line at a time and are very portable I cant fir it on my boat while im fishing or in my truck, I used a Berkley before but the spoolin buddy fishing line spooling station is much better! here some more infohttp://www.spoolinbuddy.com

I drilled a hole into my computer desk, stick a pencil through it, put the spool on and hold it in place with hair tie's.  With 4 girls in the house they won't miss 2 of them.

The hair tie's work better than rubber bands because they allow enough movement in the spool to get your line tight to the reel but not too tight.

Works perfect

I've had my Berkley station for some thing like 30 years and I'll buy another the day the current one craps out. I don't find it is efficient for spinning reels but is sure works for bait casters.

Never used one.  I had someone hold on to the spool or run the line through books.

Ive tried the Berkely they sell and BPS and it crapped out fast, didnt seem to be made to cope with the weight of even a 1/4lb. spool.  If ever I have $ laying around to burn Im gonna try the wooden one most fly fishing catalog's sell.  The home made one Ive built imitating it, lasted longer than the Berkely but still suffered from me being the builder!

I think I paid a few bucks for one that attaches to your rod. You can set the tension and away you go.

I like that box idea, does the hole get elongated with the pencil running thru it?  Maybe a bolt, washers and nut would work too.

I only use mono on a few rigs that I have, but I do quite a bit of respooling on those combos.  I limp my line out under hot water, spool it up and troll the line out in current before I fish with it.
