I'm not an expert, but the pflueger patriarch is the one I'll be buying and it's in the $200.00 range you mentioned. The review I read about it seemed very impressive for such a reasonable price. Before choosing this reel for myself, I looked through several brands including Shimano since I'm a big Shimano fan. I hope this helps.

The patriarch is an amazing reel but the XT SURPREME handles just as well.

thanks for the posts, and im looking into every reel you guys mentioned, i want the stradic but after looking into it... it says that it reccomends 3,4 5 pound test and thats way to low to be fishing where i fish because the avg bass is 3 pounds! if this isnt true and anyone has any info on what line it takes please help. The patriarch looks really nice not sure about the brand though is it reliable?

I just checked, and you can get the stradic suited for 8-10 pound test if you need it. I hope that helps.

Pflueger is very very reliable, I have all the Pflueger spinning reels and they have never let me down. You should pick one up sometime.

If I were buying a new spinning reel, Shimano would be at the top of my list.

Any of their offerings in your price range is going to be a superb reel.

You can use any line you think is suitable for a 2500 series reel.

I recommend #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid which has a breaking strength of

11.9 lbs. Other options include Seaguar InvizX #10 or even 20 lb

braid.
