brushhoggin Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 these along with a few others are recommended for shakey head. but the WILL NOT screw in these screw-lock heads! nor will they go on the ones with the spikes. seems my only hope is a t-rig or dropshot. manns hardnose frogs are same way, cant use the screw lock frog hooks. guess this is why they call it hardnose. any loopholes? why are they using this material? Big-O Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Durability and/or longevity along with high floating material. Elaztech is all of that but can sometimes require minor adjustments to get use to. Be sure not to mix them with standard polysol plastic baits and you can put them back in the original bag when finished fishing and use them again next trip. Hope that helps www.ragetail.com Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted November 17, 2009 Super User Posted November 17, 2009 Try Tru Tugsten's Ike's Spike or Weed Whacker jigheads. They are perfect for elaztech, or 3X worms. Quote
brushhoggin Posted November 17, 2009 Author Posted November 17, 2009 yes, that is what i like to hear, thank u i'll pick some up now Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted November 18, 2009 Super User Posted November 18, 2009 Tackle Warehouse has them on sale quite often. Fish these on light line; no more than #10. The hooks are very sharp, but very light wire. Quote
jvveelen Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 To get the Elaztech baits turned into a screw lock hook, just heat the screw lock with a lighter and it will turn-in without a problem Quote
Super User RoLo Posted November 18, 2009 Super User Posted November 18, 2009 Strike King's Elaztech plastics (3x) are ill suited to screw-coil retainers, but stay well put on T-rig jigs that use a Z-bend retainer. As Ghoti pointed out, the Tru-Tungsten Weed Wacker works very well. Unfortunately, the weed wacker hook is too rubbery for Florida-strain bass and in heavy cover. Another excellent jig for cyberflexxx plastic is the "Slider Spider Classic Head - SPCH8B-U It uses a medium wire Mustad UltraPoint hook with a round-bend, which I personally prefer. In any case, when fishing in heavy cover and/or double-wide bass, my favorite Z-bend jig for Elaztech plastics is the Owner Type-Z Bullet Head, > Strong 3/0 hook of 'Owner' fame > 0-Degree Eyelet (jigs are most weedless when the line-eye is on the nose of jighead) > Hold-Fast Keeper (Z-Lock shank-bend) > Round-Bend Hook Roger Quote

Super User .ghoti. Posted November 18, 2009 Super User Posted November 18, 2009 Thanks for the tip RoLo. I have some of those, still in the box. I ordered some, thinking they would be good for the 3X baits. You pointed out the one short-coming of the Ike heads. Very light wire hook. I fish them on #10 line, and a med-light rod, so I have no problems. There are times I would like to throw one of these worms, on a jighead, into spots where #10 line has no place being. I may not get to try them out until next spring. Very cold and nasty heere right now. I *** you southern guys. Quote

Ghoti, between the Owner type-Z bullet head (Offset shank) and the Owner Sled Head (coil retainer) I've virtually abandoned standalone hooks, bullet sinkers and of course, pegging bullet sinkers. Hey, don't be envious of us Floridians, it's actually HOT here today, and we desperately need a break from the heat > Roger Quote
brushhoggin Posted November 18, 2009 Author Posted November 18, 2009 so you guys think jvveelens theory about heating the coil with a lighter will work? Quote
A.Parris Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Check out the kicker sticker jigheads by Gitbit baits. They hold the 3x worms like no other. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted November 18, 2009 Super User Posted November 18, 2009 so you guys think jvveelens theory about heating the coil with a lighter will work? I tried it once; burnt my fingers, got the worm on crooked, twisted the line up, and never tried it again. Give it a shot. Your coordination may be better than mine. Quote
brushhoggin Posted November 19, 2009 Author Posted November 19, 2009 i like the spike or screw though. the way they angle up towards the tip of the hook, just seems to keep the worm more straight Quote
