I'm excited for ice out. Hopefully by the end of the month the Mississippi will be fishable. I plan to fish it around Alma and La Crosse. Anyone else fish these areas?

I lived in Roch, MN for 30 years before moving south. I used to fish the area below the Alma dam extensively. Some great back waters areas that were great bass producers. Just below the "smoke stack" area, on the Wisc side, there are some pretty easy to access backwaters just off the main channel. I used to find bass along the banks where there was something to break up the current a bit.Chartruese willow leaf spinnerbaits were my absolute go to bait in that area. But the water started to clean up, mostly from the zebra mussles I guess. So maybe more natural colors would work better these days.

SHHHHHHHH!!!!!! If all those guys from down south find out how good the bass fishing is in Wisconsin, the lakes in Wisconsin will be as crowded as the all the reservoirs down there.

They will catch more monster walleyes and muskie then Monster bass. The farther north you get of HWY 29. The worst the bass fishing gets. To me its not worth my time going up north. I have over 20,000 surface acres of lakes I can fish. Most with in a 40 mile radius of my house. These body's of waters have very healthy bass and muskie populations. I have also caught many 4lb plus samllies and 45in plus muskies. My pb bass caome from just up the road. It was just a bit over 5lbs. Here is my pb. CopyofPicture013-2.jpg Wausau is just to the north west. I am in city limits.

Once and a while I will drive out to sturgeon bay. That is the only place in the state that I like fishing other then my home waters, and since I have family all up and down the lake shore. I don't have to get a hotel in Green Bay or Sturgeon Bay.

Anyone want to trade a trip near Green Bay this June for trip to fish with me next fall in central Texas. Or spring. June 14-17 but not 15?

If you are planning on coming up this way let me know.  I will gladly take you out.  I live an hour north of Green Bay and mainly fish the Menominee River and the bay for small mouth.  If I can't get out because of my schedule, I can get you set up with some good hooks that love to take people out.

Anybody in here know of some good bass lakes in the Ozaukee County area? It would be great to get away from small pond fishing to try some real lakes.

It would appear as though my mindset is more suited to that of a warmer climate when it comes to fishing. Here I am, ready to get in on the Spring bite and the ice has barely gone, the season hasn't legally started and yes, snow in the forecast this week.

That's why I moved south. Love MN/WI in the summer, but the winters are just too long. I fished a local lake Thursday and Table Rock yesterday. There's a big FLW tourney going on Beaver Lake where I live, so I stayed away from that this week. I caught 43 bass Thursday and my buddy caught 33. I caught somewhere north of 30 (lost count after 25) and he caught 28 on TR yesterday. Life is good in the south, too.

Very much looking forward to my 2 months in Northern Wisc this summer fishing, though. The best of both worlds.

Yea this winters keeps on dragging on. Most of the water is still frozen over. If it is its not safe to be out on. Last week about 8 people had to be rescued off the cost of door county. When the chunks of ice they were on broke free. Do I feel sorry for them. Not one bit. One guy was more ticked his ice fishing season is over. Then having to owe the cost guard thousands of dollars.

This week I will have to take a drive to check out the WI river. If its at a normal water level I will try to fish it. Other wise during the winter its way to shallow to fish. Could could almost walk across the whole river during the winter.

I am more worried about freeze outs than being able to fish on opener. Reports of several lakes already ruined.

Chris (wisconsin heat) - take a trip down to the Mississippi river. Its only like an hour drive from EC to Alma. And you don't have to wait till May 4th since the season is open all year on the river.

Speaking of the Miss... anyone been on it for bass lately? I plan on fishing it this weekend and last I heard the bite was slow and water was around 38 degrees.

Finally getting a break up here. Still some ice but hopefully it is gone after this weekend. Supposed to hit 65-70* this weekend. First tournament on the 5th. Gonna be a slow bite I'm guessing.

I just looked at the forecast. There saying 45-50 with rain/snow. That don't surprise me. It always turns cold during opening weekend.

I barely put any stock in tomorrow's forecast, let alone the 10 day.

I know same here. But I just look a head. So I can get a idea of what to expect. But if its that way. It would not surprise me. A few years ago me and a buddy were fishing opening weekend. In our winter gear in the middle of the lake. It never falls it always gets cold for opening weekend. Living this far up north sucks.

Does anyone here regularly fish Winnebago? I'm on internship in Fond Du Lac until August and its teasing me not being able to use a boat and get on the lake. I was wondering if I could tag along with someone on some Saturday or Sunday if possible.

Also, is there another forum available for more local waters? Essentially, I would like to hear fishing and water reports.

Thank you!

DWTAYLOR., go to lake-link.com. click on Wis.fishing reports and you will find all the info you will need for your area. Check out the other threads on LL too. Lots of info and you may be able to find some guys to take you out. Good Luck.

I never find much Bass info on Lake Link. Mostly walleye and panfish stuff.

Lake link is hit or miss for me. This far up north its muskies or walleyes. I don't mind the muskie reports. I don't fish for walleyes. So I could less care about them reports. Once and a while I do see some local bass reports.

Dwtaylor tell me your not a hawk fan. I moved to butler county for 6 or so years. At that time I didn't even know Iowa had more then one football team. Let alone three. As a badger fan in Iowa could not see the Badgers. So I was stuck watching cyclones or Hawkeyes football. I could not pull for the Hawks. So I started pulling for the Cyclones. To this day. I still pull for the cyclones.

HECK NO!!!!!

I'm actually on internship right now at Mercury in Fond Du Lac, but I am a senior at Iowa State (Go Cyclones!!!).

I don't think I can cheer for Iowa...even if there was a fire.

Yea I was totally missed placed when I moved to Iowa. I was the only WI sports fan in the my neck of the woods. Every one else was cubs, Cardinals, twins, Vikings, bears, Cyclones, or Hawk fans. So yea there always was trash talk when they played.

If you every head a few hours west this summer. Hit me up. I will try to work some time out were we can fish. I don't have a boat. But shore fishing is not that bad.
