tipptruck1 Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Also wont he have to get a state park sticker. So he can use the ramp at Potawatomi Park. But what ever ramp you use In Sturgeon bay. They all are in great shape Quote
zbigbadaaron Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 plum worm you have a state record smallmouth? Quote
tipptruck1 Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 The state record was caught in 1950. It was caught in Oneida county and was 9.1 lbs. If he caught it he would have been 4 going by the age on his profile. Quote
GB Smallie Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 Scarecrow, Kayak in the Mink River / Rowley's bay would be a good bet. I have a friend who fly fishes the mink a lot and gets some really nice fish. If you are in Jacksonport; you can also go accross the peninsula to Fish Creek or Ephrim depending on the wind with your 16'. You can stop at Howies tackle in Sturgeon Bay for anything you may need. I agree that it will be a little more than Gander or Fleet, but they will know what is going on in the area. Good luck and have fun! Quote
FairfieldIllini Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 I live in the southern part of Illinois, but I am going to be on vacation at the Chula Vista resort in Wisconsin Dells July 14-19. It's my understanding that the resort is located directly on the Wisconsin River and has some easily accessible fishing spots. Is anyone familiar with the Wisconsin River in that area? What types of lures should I use? What species of fish can I expect to catch? Thanks!! Quote
tipptruck1 Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Well that is just down the road from me. From what every part of the WI river I have been on. Its really all the same. Muddy, shallow, and rocky. Bright colors work really good on the WI river. Spinner baits, top waters, jerk baits, and lip less crank baits work great. You will get snagged from time to time. So get ready to try to get the baits back to lose the baits. There are a lot of spices in the river. A lot of walleye, Pike, Muskie, and Small mouths. Here are some reports. http://www.lake-link...a-Adams-County/ http://www.lake-link...ls-Sauk-County/ http://www.lake-link...m-Adams-County/ http://www.lake-link.com/Wisconsin-Fishing-Reports/report.cfm/4168/Wisconsin-Dells-Dam-Wisconsin-River-Sauk-County/ Quote
FairfieldIllini Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Thanks, tipptruck! I will not have a boat and most likely will not rent a boat/hire a guide. I hope there are some decent spots to fish from the shoreline. I am looking forward to fishing for some different species. It's all Largemouth, bluegill, crappie, and catfish around here. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Fishing from the shore might be a challenge. Even up were I fish its hard to find a spot from shore. The live baiters guys hog all the open public spots. They will go out with at lest 4 or 6 people. And have two lines per person in the water. covering a few hundred ft of water. The best part is that I know whats in the waters, and I know what there fishing for. They will catch 1 legal Walleye compared to 20 undersize. Live baiting is not worth it were I live. I have muskie baits bigger then what they are trying to catch. If I had a boat I would head down for a day to take you out. It would be cool to fish some new waters. Any way I do not know how munch fishing you plan on doing. But a out of state FL is not cheap for more then 1 day. http://dnr.wi.gov/org/caer/cs/nonrestypes.asp Quote
5dollarsplash Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Anyone been up in the NW part of the state? I'm from Rice Lake and am looking for info on other lakes in the area if anyone has input on how the bass are behaving. Quote
jeb2 Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 My wife's family has 20 acres on a lake near Tomahawk. I spent the 2 summers before this one up there fishing and hanging out for about 2 months each time. Bass fishing has been outstanding on their small lake, and the weather was FAR better than summers here in Arkansas. Didn't work out this year because of family issues, but looking forward to getting up there next summer. Best LM bass was just over 5lbs according to some official scales (released her after weighing). If it wasn't for those darn bait stealing northerns, it'd be almost perfect up there. I lived in MN for 35 years before moving south, and fished the Mississippi for the most part, pools 4, 5 and 6. Decent bass fishing in the backwaters. It sure is nice to be able to fish out of my boat all year down here, though. I think I still have an ice auger up in the attic, but I don't know why I keep it around. Quote
Anthony908 Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 I live in colombia county wisconsin one of the best lakes to fish around here is buffalo lake in marquette county or long lake in colombia county when the water level is normal but do not use soft swim baits unless you got money cuz pike will destroy them mine rage from ten to thurty buks or more a piece.best baits to use here are chartruese and/or white chatterbaits spinnerbaits and buzz baits for soft plastics use black and blue senkos or texas rigged crawfish almost any color senko will work though.if you love to fish jigs use blue gill or orange and brown jigs sumtimes black and blue best trailers to use are grande bass megaclaws.if yoyu guys want the best and newest baits go to tackle warehouse it is hands down best bass fishing equipment you can get Quote
hooah212002 Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Delavan here. Being landlocked makes fishing near impossible. Nearly all the lakes around here (Delavan, Comus, Lake Geneva, Browns in Burlington) are littered with houses. On my way home from work the other night, I scoped out Eagle Lake in Union Grove only to find that the entire shoreline is someone's backyard and for the 1 or 2 places that aren't, there is no parking on the street I need to make friends with a boat owner...... I fished Buffalo a lot in the past few years and its a great fishery. They will be doing the draw down this year I believe in September to fix the Montello dam. I'm hoping when they complete it and fill Buffalo back up that they do a hefty restocking of it because the fishing numbers have definitely decreased in the past 2 years. One of my best years was 2009 and I caught HUGE LMB and lots of numbers. Since then it has just been average. Overall still and awesome lake, especially if you love to slop fish. Which happens to be my favorite. I was up that way this weekend on a different lake close to that. Had only a handful of bass and a few pike. Biggest lmb was 3 lb 13 oz. Water is toooooooooooooo hot. High 80's all day long. Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted December 15, 2012 Super User Posted December 15, 2012 I live in Eau Claire, but apart from fishing the Wisconsin River some for smallmouth, Chequamegon Bay once, and Lake Pepin for white bass, I have done little fishing in Wisconsin. I fish northwestern Ontario, where I often catch a fish on the first cast when I reach a new lake. I'm so spoiled by that degree of consistency. A hundred fish per person per day is ordinary up there. Quote
Trackick9707 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 @5dollarsplash..., Shout out for NW wisconsin! If you know where New richmond is try any of the lakes around there. Squaw, Cedar, and Bass are good spots to start. Â The Willow river is great for smallies and the state park in Hudson is a gold mine for large mouth. Â Most guys around here are fishing walleye's so the bass spots are mostly un-touched. Â If you want to go a little further north, Mudhen lake east of Siren has a great topwater bite all summer long. Â Otherwise you can hit the St. Croix river but it's hard to work around the pleasure boaters. Â I was gonna try the Apple River Flowage up in Amery this coming summer as my "new lake of the year" but finding info on it has been difficult at best. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted January 11, 2013 Super User Posted January 11, 2013 In Milwaukee now. Fishing for 3 days. Going after big browns and steelhead. Will post a report when I get back. Staying at the Phister. Nice old hotel! Jeff Quote
29JMP29 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 My family has a cabin in northern wisconsin, in oneida by lake tomahawk. Â I mainly fish a couple of smaller 100 acre lakes, but I only have a jon boat and a 10 horse with a trolling motor. Â If any of you guys know of any decent lakes that are like less than 200 acres, you should let me know! Â I'm only 16 so I doubt I would be able to go on anything bigger. Quote

29JMP29 Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Has anybody on here heard of Long Lake or Brown lake? I They are both in Newbold by Lake Tomahawk. I know there are like 50 Long Lakes in Wisconsin but the one I am talking about is about 100 acres and next to Muskellunge Lake. Quote
jeb2 Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Scheduled to be on the lake in Wisc again for 2 months this summer. Very much looking forward to it! Fishing has been up and down around here this winter, but at least I don't have to chop a hole in the ice to do it. Quote
Danarchy Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I'm excited for ice out. Hopefully by the end of the month the Mississippi will be fishable. I plan to fish it around Alma and La Crosse. Anyone else fish these areas? Quote
plumworm Posted March 8, 2013 Author Posted March 8, 2013 Hi Dan, I fish pools 9-10 a lot (about 5-6 weeks a year) From PDC to Genoa. Desoto bay is a bass factory as is the Big Lake area north of Marquette Ia. on pool 9. Pool 10 has great areas also, Spring lake/Ambrose slough, Wyalusing Park, Harpers Ferry slough and even downtown PDC has a lot of great fishing. I started this thread last spring and it was used on and off. I would love to see it take off and be used more this season. Luck Quote
