Super User BASSclary Posted April 13, 2012 Super User Posted April 13, 2012 Well more specifically what exactly do you like to use your 7' mh/f avid for? I have mine and I havent found what I really like it for, and I found it has taken a backseat to my Powells. Just wondering what you all like yours for because mine hasn't seen too much time on the water. Quote
outdoorsman110 Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Sounds like it could do spinnerbaits Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 13, 2012 Super User Posted April 13, 2012 I have the same rod, I use it for jigs, t-tigs, c-rigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, frogs, 3/4 oz lipless cranks, big squarebills around really heavy cover. I wouldn't be without that rod most of the year. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted April 13, 2012 Author Super User Posted April 13, 2012 I thought about that, but I love using my Powell 6'7" MH/XF for spinners. And pretty much all I use is plastics, jigs, and spinnerbaits with a little dabbling into hardbaits. Maybe I should just use it as an AP rod for when I only want to take one? Quote
MrSwimJig Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 That rod is an awesome rod. I use mine for jigs and it is also a pretty darn good frog rod. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 13, 2012 Super User Posted April 13, 2012 If you don't like/need or want it, sell it and get another Powell. Fish with what you like. Besides those Avids are terrible......just send it to me and I'll get rid of it. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 I have that same rod and faced the same problem. I hated that rod until I put a Curado 50E on it. It took awhile to get used to, but now its a pretty decent t-rig rod. It is very sensitive, but it just doesnt feel right in my hands sometimes. It feels too tip heavy. Im with you, I like my Powells, Dobyns, and Phenix rods alot better! Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted April 14, 2012 Super User Posted April 14, 2012 I got that exact rod for a STEAL from Dick's when they had their .97 cent sale. rod was marked down to 99.97 and i got it for just shy of 75$. had a model number from st.croix only 2 years old i believe and i trade up to the legend tournament for WAY less than cost or a legend, led alone an avid. i did use it for a few days and it was a very nice trig/plastic rod. Super User BASSclary Posted April 14, 2012 Author Super User Posted April 14, 2012 hmm, I could give it a home haha Depends on what you'll give me for it Quote
outdoorsman110 Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Depends on what you'll give me for it 80? 90? Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted April 14, 2012 Author Super User Posted April 14, 2012 80? 90? Nah, i'll keep it Quote
outdoorsman110 Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Nah, i'll keep it Alright!!! Try maybe using it for a Jitterbug Quote
Mike__D Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 My 7 foot MH Avid has been moved to a camping rig (to make space for my elite, same model). I use mine for soft jerk baits, spinner baits, and t-rigs. Mike D Quote
bigfishbk86 Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 That rod will work for 1/2 oz and up spinnerbaits and chatterbaits, larger squarebills, t-rigs, jigs, and pitching, and even sizmic or horny toads. It is a VERY versatile rod. Quote
Michael DiNardo Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Wow, I love that rod. Since I fish from shore and wade, I will take just one rod, with a spare in the truck of course. I can use that rod for just about everything except the very light stuff. I especially like it for any type of T rigging or spinnerbaits/buzzbaits. Mike Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted April 14, 2012 Super User Posted April 14, 2012 I have the same model in the LE line, and paired with a Calcutta 201 DC, it is the best 1/2oz spinnerbait combo I've had the pleasure to use. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted April 14, 2012 Super User Posted April 14, 2012 I use it for everything. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted April 14, 2012 Author Super User Posted April 14, 2012 I haven't really gave it a fair shot with alot of techniques. I think tomorrow I'll give it a go with larger texas rigs. This morning I threw some red eye shads on it and I thought it handled them well, but just seemed odd. I think it might just be too tip heavy. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted April 14, 2012 Super User Posted April 14, 2012 Mine is paired with a core 50 and is used for T-rigs. Jeff Quote
riskkid 2 Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 I love mine, I primarily use it as my carolina rig rod which is a technique I use frequently. It's got a Daiwa Zillion on it. Quote
