Livetarget Frog Issues

I picked up a livetarget frog today after hearing such good things about them. I hooked her up, casted her out, and the problems began! Is the frog supposed to fill up with water, so that the butt end is under water? Thats what mine does. Further, I have no problems walking any other bait ive ever tried (spooks, sammies), but for whatever reason this frog will not do anything but bounce! Theres no side to side motion whatsoever. Could the filling of the water be the problem? I dont know!

literally first cast took on water? you may have a dud. i've heard those frogs were specifically designed to pretty much eliminate water logging. however i can't see any frog being completely waterproof. i always have to squeeze my frogs out after 4-5 casts to keep it floating right. small price to pay. you throwing it on mono or braid?

Try Snagproof's Bobby's Perfect Frog or Ish's Phat Frog. Both are completely waterproof because the chamber for the hook is separate from the body!

bobby's perfect frog is my frog of choice but even they start to take on a little water eventually. for one, the plastic where the tassels come out isn't exactly 100% impermeable. also, the line ties on bobbys perfect frogs pivot freely, so after a few good fights/monster hooksets, that ring tears the plastic thats hugging the line tie, letting even more water in. still my favorite frog.

A drop or two of "krazy glue" in the right spots works wonders !

Only frog i throw now are the LT's. I have had no issues other than the every once in a while squeeze. you may have a dud.

I personally am not a fan of them. I tried them when they first came out. Gorgeous finish on it, at least for a little while. I can live with color fading and paint peeling. The thing that made me toss mine was that the hooks were trash. Bent far too easily, IMO. Hooks that bend and frogging are not a good mix.

I'm using braid, and as soon as it hits the water, the entire butt end of the frog is under the surface, with the nose sticking up

there is a lead weight under its butt that'll pull it down a little, but that weight is key when youre tryin to walk the dog

I opened one and tied it on yesterday and it d**n near sank. I have several other of there frogs that I have no problem with, but this one it is junk... Like the original poster said as soon as it hits the water it fills up...

I have a few, they dont do what is happening to yours, but Im not really a fan of them at all. Yes they look nicer than other but you can get the same looks for 5.99 now from Cabelas or Ebay.

They are softer than spros but spros work better overall for me. If you want a frog that is soft(softer than live target frogs),affordable,walks like a champ and doesnt fill up....goto dick's sporting goods on Southern BLVD and buy Booyah Pad Crashers for 5.99. You can get 2 for a couple bucks more than one Live Target.

Cabelas 5.99 frog...looks the same doesnt it

Now how can any of this be????? Those frogs cost like $11 or so, and we all know more expensive = better. Maybe some one put a Strike King or Snag Proof frog in that Koppers package....I mean those frogs only cost like $7-$8 bucks, so they must be garbage, I am not sure one can even be tied on to braid successfully, I hear the line ties snap on contact.

I was skeptical at first. I went out last thursday after work. On my 10th cast i landed a 5lber. I ended up catching a 5 fish limit of 17 lbs. My previous best 5 fish limit on this body of water was 15 lbs. I was throwing the smallest size and it landed over 18 fish and still looks and fishes like it is brand new.

they are supposed to sit with the back end lower in the water, and as for the lack of action, well this is were people get confused. Frogs are designed to be used in slop with a dragging type retrieve and in open water you have to make them walk, they don't walk on their own, at least the ones I've used don't. To walk your hollow bodied frog you need to fish it almost like a jerkbait, you snap twitch the rod with slack line and it will pull the frog up and to the side and as you repeat this action the frog will begin to come back with a side to side motion. That is the difference in all these frogs, some are really easy to walk but others not so easy but whatever the case it is not a built in action like spooks and sammys, you have to make it work.

Thanks for the info. I do understand that, but I think the issue at hand is the frog gets completely waterlogged on the first cast. No matter how hard I jerk, the frog simply chugs/bounces the water, it never planes to walk. Perhaps thats how its designed, though. I'm no expert of course.

The Koppers has a very different action from spro. I use both. Initially I was unsatisfied with the Koppers because it bobbed like a cork rather than drag across the top of the water like the spro. It wasn't until I fished the Kopper's in very heavy cover that it shined. The bobbing action looks like a real frog trying to hop out of or escape from the wa ter. This is Exactly what it was designed to do. Use the spro in more open water where you can walk it (or walk any number of other baits for that matter...), use the Kopper's in the weeds, pads, scum, sticks, etc

I think people buy a Kopper's expecting it to be a fancier version of the Spro frog when it is not. It is just a different tool.

Now, as to it taking on water, if it immediately takes on water, return it to the store for a new one. A premium bait should not need a fix to work.

you have a dud- you can almost walk these in place because of the bob...in d**n near does 180s like a good swimbait.
