MN_SONNEN_ANGLER Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Nice! thats good to hear! i got out on sunday and it was a zoo, managed to catch a dozen or so males cranking the outside edge of a hump and a few 3 pounders flippin docks, also a big female in some slop on an ish's phat frog. its always fun catching 4-5lb+ fish on top water in the thick stuff! the lake was so busy it was unreal, i was on demontreville/ olson lake. MN Bassin' nOOb Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 I went up to my cabin on Bay Lake near Brainerd over the weekend and slammed them! Primarily between 10 am-3 pm on both Sat & Sun and each night between 6-7 pm brought in about 30-35 bass total with the vast majority coming in between 1.5-3 lbs (and around 40-45 northerns). 3 solid fish between 3.5-4 lbs. At one point I was catching a fish literally every other or every 3rd cast! 70% were caught fishing 9-12 ft of water along weedlines with noisy cranks (KVD Sexy Shad Series 4 crank, Rapala Clackin' Crank in Helsinki Shad). The other 30% were caught in 3-8 ft of water fishing with KVD 1.5's (Black back chartreuse aka The Bass Slayer) and Manns Baby Minus 1. If you can't tell, I'm a big crankin' guy...don't fish a lot of finesse/plastics. P.S. One big negative was the custom-made 7'10'' glass crankin' rod I had made and waited 5 weeks for from Thorne Bros in Blaine broke at the tip on the 2nd cast when ripping a lipless crank through some weeds. That was the first custom-made rod I've ever had; pretty brutal first experience with both a custom-rod and Thorne Bros (when I called they insinuated that I broke it in the car or something on the way up there from picking it up on Thursday night). MN_SONNEN_ANGLER Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 How was this past weekend for everyone? I only could get out today for 4 hours on bigyou carneilian and cought a dozen fish. Wasn't very impressive but all were over 2 pounds, all were jig fish but two on a bubble gum senko. Quote
justbass2u Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 We are planning trip to the Brainard area. We will be staying at a resort at Long Lake starting the 13th of June. Would like to take side trips to some good largemouth lakes in the area. Any help pointing us in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Quote

Gull Lake is one you're probably going to hit. It's basically "the" lake to fish in the Brainerd. Quote
micorps Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 I have seen some big bass caught from oxide lake on the iron range also, white swan is another good lake but no public water access and need to know someone with land to fish it. All the big bass i had on in white swam broke my line, havent fished it in a long time since enlisting 12 years ago. Brother-in-law is building a new cabin so many go back up in July. Quote

MN_SONNEN_ANGLER Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Last night was the third tuesday night league tournament in the FRANKIES tuesday night league, and there were some very impressive fish cought. it was on north and south center lakes in lindstrom, mn. we weighed in with a 13 lb bag (remember only a 3.5 hour tournament) with one that i cought on a swim senko flipping docks that weighed 5.54 lbs! i thought we were doing good since its such a short tourney, only to see a team come in with 21.94 lb bag!!! 4.4 lb average for 5 fish, with one 5.74 lber! amazing fish for such a short tournament, heck even for an all day event! That is ridiculous...If you're on a hot bite it's doable, but to catch that weight in 3.5 hours is crazy good. Quote
MN_SONNEN_ANGLER Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 i thought the team with 17.5 was gonna take it Quote

Vinny Chase Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 i think it was some sort of finesse, not sure what though. how have you been doing this summer? Overall it has been a tough year...I have had a few of the best days of my life, but then turn around and get skunked (like I did on Saturday). I just didnt expect it to be this inconsistant. How about you? Quote

MN_SONNEN_ANGLER Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Yeah, did you do well? hit any rock at all? Quote
Vinny Chase Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Yeah, did you do well? hit any rock at all? finished right in the middle of the field....we drew the last boat to launch and so that spot was all filled up...top three finishers were on that spot. Quote
Vinny Chase Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Nice! what did you catch them on? NorthStar Swim Jig on the south end. Quote
MN_SONNEN_ANGLER Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Tournament last night on green lake in chisago co. we started off the first half hour in the furthest south end in the slop with nothing, then we made a slight change with how we were fishing the area and cought 5 13''-15'' fish in about 10 minutes. but they didnt get any bigger. So we made a run up to little green and fished a weed flat in about 6'-8' of water and culled all the smaller ones with 2lb fish, then that slowed down to nothing. We then got on a shallower weed flat and threw topwater poppers and walking lures and culled out two more fish, with the last one being 4.5lbs and only 3 minutes before we had to head to weigh in! we ended up with 12.45lbs for the night. Vinny Chase Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 That's not a terrible night on the water...was the point bunched up when you launched? Quote
MN_SONNEN_ANGLER Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 there was probably 6 boats on it, i picked #28 to launch though lol so i didnt want to get on it and be too close to other people. I have a tourney on tonka on the 8th, was wondering if you would want to pre fish it with my partner and I? Quote
