backcast88 Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Its simple: What popular lure or color lure have your tried that has not worked for you? For me I have had zero luck on junebug colored soft plastics and had pretty poor luck with watermelon and green pumpkin. I have also had rotten luck with frogs and spinnerbaits. I am better off with pumpkinseed and chartreuse worms and just about any shallow and medium crankbaits. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 12, 2012 Global Moderator Posted April 12, 2012 Had a similar thread to this awhile ago I believe. Mine was and still is a Rapala Rattling Rap. I like rattle baits and I've caught fish on all kinds of them but I don't think I've ever caught a single fish on the Rapala one, even tossing them at schooling whites. I know they work, just not for me. Quote
airborne_angler Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 I know Rage baits are all the "RAGE" but I have only caught 2 Fish on Rage baits. Both were on a 10" Anaconda. One of the fish was about 7 inches long and the other maybe 13 inches. Im about to get fired up again however and give Rage Craws another try,Ive thrown those and the Space Monkey with nothing. Ive T-Rigged em,Ive "Rage" rigged em with the keel weighted hook, and nothing, but I see the fish BIG O is haulin in and im just dyin to get hooked up. I have gone to BPS and blown almost $100 on assorted Rage products, and it just wasnt happening.I have faith though. Ive also thrown all kinds of Rattle baits,Excalibur XR50,Rattle Trap,SK Red eye,Cordell Spot...Hauled nothing but water. Quote
drew4779 Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 A wacky rigged senko. I try it almost every week and I've never had one bite. Quote
tnbassfisher Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 I also, haven't had as much luck with Senkos as the rest. But that could be that I don't enjoy fishing them as much and therefore haven't given them as much time. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted April 12, 2012 Super User Posted April 12, 2012 Spider grub, double hula grub or any twin tail grubs. It's beyond me why, because I do really, really well on the single tail grubs. Quote
WookieeJedi Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Bama Rig, still no fish on it. I may correct that in the morning though. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted April 12, 2012 Super User Posted April 12, 2012 poppers. Just never throw em, so I'll never catch em' on it Quote
brushhoggin Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 i wonder how many baits have been written off, merely cause they were thrown where there were no fish. i couldn't catch a fish with a chatterbait to save my life Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Jigs. Don't know what I am doing wrong, I cannot catch a fish on a jig. I have caught more carp on jigs than bass. (1 carp, 0 bass...) Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted April 12, 2012 Super User Posted April 12, 2012 I've never done very well on flukes. Don't know why Quote
loodkop Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 I struggle with the deep diving Dying Flutter. On a serious note I don't have any luck with deep cranking. Quote
dag623 Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Jigs. Don't know what I am doing wrong, I cannot catch a fish on a jig. I have caught more carp on jigs than bass. (1 carp, 0 bass...) x2 minus the carp... I know they work, as I've seen and heard of the success stories, but I have yet to catch a single fish on a jig. I will keep throwin them tho, as I am sure it is my technique that is the issue. 1 Quote
Big-O Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 x2 minus the carp... I know they work, as I've seen and heard of the success stories, but I have yet to catch a single fish on a jig. I will keep throwin them tho, as I am sure it is my technique that is the issue. Might try this... 1/4 oz green pumpkin jig with Green Pumpkin Trailer (RT for best results) tip claws with Chartreuse JJ's, 15lb floro on a sensitive med or hvy action rod, Cast-Pitch or Flip in any water 6ft or less (Except bathtubs and swimming pools) Fish much slower than you're probably accustomed to, fish just like it is a T rig soft plastic with a very slow and timid scoot, slide or tiny hop PAUSE etc. That will fix it most likely... and then we will celebrate your success with a TOAST www.ragetail.com Quote
Big Stick Joe Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Jigs, buzz baits, I've only caught 1 on spinnerbaits, t-rig worms, frogs, and since I've picked up fishing again about this time last year only 1 on cranks lmao. I know there is a lot but no luck with them. Quote
riskkid 2 Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 I hate to admit it but I've not had much luck with Senkos. I caught a few fish early on with them but not many. I guess now I just don't use them. Maybe I should try them again. Quote
Megastink Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Paddle Tail Swimbaits. There are at least 5 other lures I'd throw before a Paddle Tail, but I know they can work. Ya know, soft bodied swimbaits in general... one tiny bass once, thats it! Quote
Super User bigbill Posted April 12, 2012 Super User Posted April 12, 2012 helicopter lure I purchased them a few years back that were on clearance along with the "flying lure". We took the flying lure out and caught a 3lb bass righ taway. I never opened the helicopter lures up yet. I have them in two different colors. Heck for a $1 there part of fishing history with Rowland Martin on the package. Someday m,y kids may ebay them. Right now there in my fishing museum. Quote
North Ga Hillbilly Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 I know jigs can be big fish baits.... but I can count the number of fish i've caught on a jig on one hand NGaHB Quote
Super User bigbill Posted April 12, 2012 Super User Posted April 12, 2012 Here's my non producing lures. Rapala DT10 first series nada, nothin, zipo on all of them. I purchased every color and caught nothing. I just put them back in my tackle box to try them again. The older Luhr Jensen crankbaits when they were said to be the hot ticket when they were new. Of course i purchased most of the colors too. I'll try these again too. Guys i find that all this stuff works sooner or later its the conditions and presentations were using. It could also be the baity needs some tweeking so it runs correctly. Spinnerbaits have to run perfectly straight in order to catch fish. I can spend 30 minutes when i first started tweeking them but they do work awesome. Cranks are the same also if there not working too. Its very important to change colors too. I tried jigs with success on the very first try. I walked and hopped it up a rocky point. With the rocky points the wind direction can vary the side the fish are positioned on. There on the down wind side. Its a learning process everytime i go fishing. Using scent helps too and i wash my hands before i go fishing with BIG Orange too. I'm a mechanic so my hands are oily sometimes even when we can't see it. So wash your hands before going fishing and use scents. Do not use the gas pump when going fishing it can ruin your trip. Gas up before you go and wash your hands after you gas up. Quote
tholmes Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 At the top of the list for me is the Zara Spook. I've thrown them until my arms ached and never got so much as a touch. The color that I consistently strike out with is baby bass. Never caught anything on a baby bass colored lure. Add to that bubble-gum colored soft plastics. Tom Quote
