msolorio Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 i mean all aspects of jig fishing; flippin, pitchin, draggin, etc. Quote
G_money Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 I'm a finesse guy....so I'm 10 or 12 pound fluoro on jigs. I also fish a lot of clear water and you can step up to 15 pound or heavier but you start getting fewer bites especially from the wiser bigger bass that have been caught before. Quote
msolorio Posted April 12, 2012 Author Posted April 12, 2012 thank you guys for the responses! keep em comin. forgot to mention, i like 14-20lb fluoro. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted April 12, 2012 Super User Posted April 12, 2012 I recently tied my 15# FC to a tree and stood back (pitching distance) and gave it a pull. I could not believe the amount of stretch it had. It was like a ruberband. I like FC and am going to order some 15-20 Tatsu but until then I spooled up 50# braid. On a side note with the 0 stretch the braid has the hits will about rip the rod from your hand! And it doesn't want to backlash or get loose on the spool while pitching. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 12, 2012 Global Moderator Posted April 12, 2012 15 or 20 pound fluoro, depends if I'm pitching or casting. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 15lb flouro is what I use most of the time. Quote
Packard Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 14lb Fluoro I recently tied my 15# FC to a tree and stood back (pitching distance) and gave it a pull. I could not believe the amount of stretch it had. It was like a ruberband. Was it InvisX? Quote
msolorio Posted April 12, 2012 Author Posted April 12, 2012 lol yea idk how people think invizx is the best fluoro ever, that stuff is horrible buuuut thats just my opinion. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted April 12, 2012 Super User Posted April 12, 2012 12# CXX for small to medium jigs and worms. 15# CXX for heavier jigs/hooks, bigger worms, deeper water, or heavier cover. The actual breaking strength of these lines is much higher than the rating. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted April 12, 2012 Super User Posted April 12, 2012 It depends. Can't use the same line size for ALL techniques. (i guess you could but I don't) BTW, flippin and pitchin are differet casting techniques and have nothing to do with the type of line you use. #12 Yozuri around docks. (all water types) #10 Yozuri in shallow/deep open water. (all water types) #40 and bigger braid with NO leader for all vegetation. (all water types) Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 12, 2012 Super User Posted April 12, 2012 i mean all aspects of jig fishing; flippin, pitchin, draggin, etc. I know you don't mean all aspects, I jig for many different species, I use a butterfly jig with 50# braid, 15-20# braid flipping jigs under SW docks and same line for surf. For my bass fishing I use 15 # braid and usually a 1/2 oz jig, pretty much covers the type of water I fish. I seldom use mono or copoly line for anything. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted April 12, 2012 Super User Posted April 12, 2012 65# Spiderwire Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 12, 2012 Super User Posted April 12, 2012 15# Berkeley Big Game Mean Green for light cover & 65# braid far everything else Quote

Same for me, except I use mono. Don't like flouro. I find it's disadvantages far outweigh the small advantage provided by the increased density. I have two reels spooled up with 14, the rest are lighter. Quote
NBR Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 This depend so much on where you fish. Most of the lakes I fish now a void of cover except for rocks and clear to very clear. I use 8 to 12# in every thing except braid which I use on my c-rig at 60# plus a leader of either fluoro or mono usually 8 to 12#. If I go somewhere to fish with lots of wood or weedy cover I'll spool with large enough test line to haul fish out of the trash Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted April 12, 2012 Super User Posted April 12, 2012 15lb Trilene 100% fluoro Quote
riskkid 2 Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 I use mostly finesse jigs...#12 Seagur Red Label Quote
