I am getting ready to take a trip to Bennett Springs,MO. I want to do some trout fishing and I know most people use light setups to fish for trout, typically spinning reels. I have several bait casting setups I use for bass fishing. Just wanted some input about putting 4-6lb mono on a curado 50e paired with a crucial rod Medium fast 7'. I think it would work fine to cast 1/4 oz rooster tails or some spoons. Any input would be appreciated.

You should have no problems cast any 1/4 oz lure ;)

I feel that a 1/4 ounce inline spinner is too big for trout, and that rod is a little too stout. You're going to be catching mainly fish from 10-15 inches. 90% of people who don't fly fish for trout use Ultralight and Light action rods. I always prefered the feel of a long light action rod like a 7'6" Light action rod in a spinning configuration. You're casting reel will handle the light line fine but it will overpower most trout, unless you get lucky enough to hook into some trophy brown trout.

If you want a high quality spinning rod that can double for bass fishing when you aren't trout hunting try a Phenix Ultra MBX 7'6" ML drop shot rod....it's rated as a ML but is much closer to a Light action. And can be purchased under MSRP and free shipping and no sales tax through tackle warehouse online.

I have #6 YZ spooled up on two Alphas. It works just fine. Your medium power rod will be a little much for 4 pound line. You will have to set your drag carefully to ensure you don't snap the line on the hook set. Take that 50E apart, clean the drag washers very well, lube them correctly and you will be fine.
