basser89 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Congrats on your catch Mountain Angler! I really like the coloration this one has! The ones I typically catch on the upper Potomac are typically the clear phase. What did you catch it on? Quote
Super User MCS Posted April 11, 2012 Super User Posted April 11, 2012 Nice catch. What did you hook him on? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 12, 2012 Global Moderator Posted April 12, 2012 That your first one? I've fished for them several times, only caught 3 with the biggest being 36.5 inches the smallest being 10 inches on a crappie jig. Every one was an awesome fish that I'm very glad to have had the chance to catch. Quote
Mountain Angler Posted April 12, 2012 Author Posted April 12, 2012 I caught him on a spinner for largemouth bass, there is a lot of bass and musky where i fish and he liked my spinner. It took lik 10-15 minutes to catch him. He was two feet from the bank when i hooked him haha. Quote
basser89 Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Nice work! Yeah, muskies definitely like spinners! I've actually stopped using them when fishing for smallies because of that. I've had them hit small cranks and had a large musky follow a Strike King Rocket Shad! The largest I've caught, while actually fishing for them, was a 45 inch monster. One of my buddies actually landed a 51 incher on a small bandit crank while fishing for smallies. That one weighed 36 pounds and the best part was, no leader and was using 12 pound test. Quote
Mountain Angler Posted April 12, 2012 Author Posted April 12, 2012 I had a buddy that caught one that is 50.3 inches but my best is 41 inches so far but i hooked another one today and had another raised 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted April 13, 2012 Super User Posted April 13, 2012 Good job. Around here they hit rat-l-traps. Quote
Mountain Angler Posted April 13, 2012 Author Posted April 13, 2012 Musky are interesting because they prefer one bait day to day like any fish but still it makes them fun to catch haha. Also thanks guys. Quote
