Crankbait Or Spinner Bait Setup Next?

My birthday is coming up and I think I want to get a new setup. The only question is what should I go with. Right now I have a worm/jig setup. I was leaning more towards aa spinner bait setup.

What would you guys choose as your next setup?

The combo you now have will probably work well for spinnerbaits, but not so much for cranks. A good multi-purpose spinnerbait rod will make a decent worm/jig rod, but for cranks not so much. A dedicated crankbait rod will work well for cranks...see where I'm going here?

A lot of anglers like using cranking rods for spinnerbaits, but for me spinnerbait rods are mediun heavy rods with a fast action, the secret to a good spinnerbait rod when it comes to a fast action rod is that the tip has to be somewhat stiff but not too much because you want it to load up to cast so you can achieve both distance and accuracy. If I were you I would get a cranking set up, you could try using spinnerbaits with it and see how you like it but even if you don't you'll still have a cranking set up and your worm/jig set up should do fine as a spinnerbait rod when you need it to be.

I agree with what everyone has said. And this is the basic rules that I follow as well. But, I do have a Carrot Stix crankin rod. Seems like a Med Heavy with a moderate action I guess. The rod in a whole is strong enough for a spinnerbait (even when being pitched around in tighter places), but the blanks action gives way down the rod, which makes the rod a good crankbait rod. Could also be used for topwater or a light t-rig.

If you have only one rod right now, a rod like that may be something to look into. It would cover a lot of different things, but it wouldn't be a rod you would have to give up once you start upgrading into technique specific applications.

Agree with everyone else....go with a 7' medium, with moderate or medium action for cranks. That added give will help you a whole lot with your crankbait hookups.
