Ima Bass Ninja Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 It amazes me sometimes how people reach the top and risk it all on a fling. I just hope the razorbacks program doesn't suffer to much for this mans actions. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Ok so this guy was fired because he was caught with a other woman. My god that is crazy. I know what he did was wrong but did they really have to fire the guy. There are fare worst things coaches have done and still have a job. Quote
"BRB" Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I think it was mainly because that girl he was with he hired her, and I heard something about him given her money tonight on the news. But whatever the reason I kind of sucks being from Arkansas I'm a fan and had high hopes for the season. But that razerback football for you gets your hopes up just to shot them down. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted April 11, 2012 Super User Posted April 11, 2012 Their could be something in his contract about off the field conduct Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 11, 2012 Super User Posted April 11, 2012 Like him or not, Petrino was one of the top three football coaches in the SEC. Can't believe he did something that dumb. He and the AD were on the outs from previous events so to see him let go was not a surprise. Maybe LSU can defeat the Razorbacks this year without Petrino on the sidelines. Win or lose, Petrino always had the Hogs ready to play. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted April 11, 2012 Super User Posted April 11, 2012 Looks like Petrino always had himself ready to play. 1 Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted April 11, 2012 Super User Posted April 11, 2012 As the head coach of a college sports team his job includes leading these young men. Actions such as this show a complete lack of leadership were it matters most. He knew it would get him fired, that is why he tried to cover it up. Quote
jeb2 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Ok so this guy was fired because he was caught with a other woman. My god that is crazy. I know what he did was wrong but did they really have to fire the guy. There are fare worst things coaches have done and still have a job. I watched the AD on the news this morning. He was fired for lying to the University Faculty more than anything else. The facts that he hired/promoted this girl over many other good candidates and that he'd given her $20k on the side didn't help his case, either. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted April 11, 2012 Super User Posted April 11, 2012 As a long time diehard Hog fan, I am flying my flag at half mast and wearing black in mourning today. When the story first broke on Sunday, my first immediate reaction was that Arkansas would have to fire him to, "maintain the integrity of the University." I still stand by this decision, but at the same time am saddend by this. This year, we were poised to have the best year since I have been alive. With the shake-ups and turmoil going on now.....who knows? All because our fearless leader, wanted a piece on the side. I do agree that personal life and professional life should be seperate, and if that were the only problem here, he would have been retained. The fact is, he hired his mistress to keep her quite. Also gave her a sum of $20,000, towards a "new car". Also hush money. Then he not only lied to the public in his "media day" about the wreck, but he also lied to the Chancelor and the AD, in hopes that nothing would come out. Then, only once he found out the police report would contain all of the passenger info, did he decide to come clean. This is snake like. Not that we wouldn't expect this from Petrino....he has shown in the past poor judgement. But in NCAA football, winning is key. There have been tons of scandals and such that have rocked NCAA coaches, that were retained. And CBP would have been, if not for the lies and coverups he did. Dumb move on his part, and I just hope no other NCAA sanctions fall on the University because of his dumb actions. If so, we will have to live with those too, as we were the ones who hired him. I just hope we hire the same lawyers Auburn did, so that we come away with our NC this year and nothing happens to us, all just brushed under the rug!!!!!!! :eyebrows: :eyebrows: Possible hires: Butch Davis is not going to be on our list, as EPSN said. We are not jumping from one scandal to another Jimmy Johnson is retired and will stay there...thanks again ESPN Gus Malzahn left a horrible taste in the mouth of Arkansas after the Mitch Mustain debackle. I don't know why he would be in the running other than his High school experience in Arkansas, In my book these are LIKELY candidates: Chris Peterson(HC Boise ST) Kirby Smart(DC Alabama- defense wins championships, something that has eluded my hogs) Gary Patterson(HC TCU) Art Briles(Baylor) Kyle Wittingham(last coach to "out coach" Saban)??? LOL My hopes are that the University of Arkansas will realize that we spent top dollar to achieve the success with a coach the past 4 years, and will do the same again! Top tier coaching, provides top tier recruits/play!!! Wooooo Pig Soieeeeee!!!! Jeff Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted April 11, 2012 Super User Posted April 11, 2012 This guy is a scumbag with a history of poor behavior. He interviewed with Auburn while he was still coaching at Louisville -- mind you, Auburn still had a coach at the time. He left the Atlanta Falcons under the cover of night without even talking to his players. Not really sure why Arkansas thought they were getting an upstanding citizen for their coach. With that said, I figured he'd get the business as usual SEC response, which would have suspended him for games against Brookfield Community College & Hair Care Center, and Southwest Central Missouri Institute of Technology. I was pleasantly surprised to see him get canned. Couldn't have happened to a classier guy! Quote
GrundleLove Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Its arkansas....what do you expect....after watching news reports from down there and them getting people reactions is swear to god they are from another planet. I mean, its ok for people down there to marry their sisters and cousins but the moment a guy starts banging his 25 year old co workers its blasphemy? I R CONFUSSED Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted April 11, 2012 Super User Posted April 11, 2012 Chris, I sense the same betrayal hatred from the two of us! You must be a Falcon fan? Jeff Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted April 11, 2012 Super User Posted April 11, 2012 Chris, I sense the same betrayal hatred from the two of us! You must be a Falcon fan? Jeff Nope, I'm a Giants fan since I grew up in NJ. I live in ATL now but really couldn't care less about the Falcons. Being in ATL, I just had a front-row seat to the pure ridiculousness of Petrino's classless exit. Quote
riskkid 2 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 The good thing for Hog fans is that it is a great job right now and should be attractive to many great candidates. They have no NCAA problems and top 5 talent. I just hope my Vols don't get any stupid ideas about this guy....Kiffin was enough!! I'm hearing chatter around here that Vandy's James Franklin would be a possibility. Sure is an attractive situation for a head coach. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted April 11, 2012 Super User Posted April 11, 2012 Please no James Franklin.......or Gus.....or Tubby.....we need a tried and true, winning college HC, more than just 1 year! Jeff Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 11, 2012 Super User Posted April 11, 2012 From Dandy Don Long's LSU blog on Wednesday, April 11: In SEC football news, Arkansas head football coach Bobby Petrino has been fired. Petrino had been on paid administrative leave since Thursday, when a police report revealed that a 25-year-old female university employee was a passenger in Petrino's April 1 motorcycle accident. Petrino, a married man, repeatedly denied that anyone was with him in the accident. Further investigation by Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long revealed that the woman, Jessica Dorrell, had received $20,000 from Petrino and was also hired by Petrino from a pool of 159 applicants for the job with the athletic department. Long said Petrino "knowingly misled" the athletic department, and that Petrino abused his authority when he made a staff hire that benefited himself and jeopardized the integrity of the Arkansas football program. Jeff I'm not a Vandy fan.......but living in the Nashville area I can tell you that you could do alot worse than James Franklin. He's a great recruiter, very available and transparent to the media / fans and a darn good coach. I'd trade Derek Dooley for him tomorrow (I know thats not saying alot)!! Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted April 11, 2012 Super User Posted April 11, 2012 Not saying anything bad about Vandy or Franklin. But if Hog Nation is gonna be happy and support a coach, it MUST be someone with much more background as a proven winner. With Nutt, Hog Nation was split and it did nothing good. When Petrino came along, it was still split due to his history of jumping around and being shady. Then with the success came unity. And now nothing less is expected. To ease the situation, a statement hire must be made. IMO....Chris Peterson. Others are touting Jimmy Johnson, Bo Pelini, big names. Gonna take a lot to smooth this over and the masses be happy. Just sayin.... Jeff Quote
riskkid 2 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Program is in great shape and should be able to get a great coach...time of year makes it tougher. It'll be fun to watch all the rumor mills. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted April 11, 2012 Author Posted April 11, 2012 A big problem with getting a new coach is that they usually like to run there own style offense/ defense. So it's gonna be a while if they expect good results due to the fact that it's gonna take their current players a while to know it. Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 11, 2012 Super User Posted April 11, 2012 Throw Tubby into the rumor mill, too. I seriously doubt Peterson would be interested. Could be the UAB head coach. Time will tell. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted April 12, 2012 Super User Posted April 12, 2012 Mcgee( UAB HC) was our former oc, and would not be very likely to jump ship without even coaching his first HC game. Would leave a bad taste in the mouths of UAB fans, and for another job down the road. Tubby is one of my worst nightmares. Peterson makes 2 million a year. 3.65 sure is a lot more!!!! Jeff Quote
riskkid 2 Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 OK.....for 3.65 mil I'll go ahead and take the job!! Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted April 12, 2012 Super User Posted April 12, 2012 Thats what I said.....And they can fire me and air my dirty laundry. I just want 1 year!!!! Jeff Quote
