MichiganFishing1997 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 very cool! are you able to do anything else? and is this an idea you trying to sell or show off? Quote
dcorp Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Looks cool. Do you strip the old paint off first? What kind of paint did you use? I have thought about doing this to some older reels but never knew where to start. Quote
BassAssassin85 Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 Michigan I'm just showing off for now since I have just started airbrushing but do have an artistic background. My brother in law wants his done if this turns out to be a hit I might start doing some for money but as of right now just having fun. Dcorp I did strip as much of the paint off as possible. I then went in with some black from rattle can for base then used auto air for colors with some opaques and candy paints. Then i cleared coated 3 times. Diablos I wouldn't doubt I added some weight but probably not too much since I had sanded most if the old paint off. I won't be able to determine the sensitivity till this weekend when I use it but I'm not doubting you in any way. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted April 10, 2012 Super User Posted April 10, 2012 Your paint job looks awful! You wouldn't want to be seen by anyone you know fishing with that ugly thing. Being the nice guy that I am, I'll step up to the plate and take it off your hands. Just send it my way. Kidding aside, you did a really nice job. What did you clear coat it with? It has a nice sheen. Quote
BassAssassin85 Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 i cleared with a rattle can but did really nice even coats then took the blowdryer to it. Don't know how well the clear is going to hold up but if it doesn't then i can just wet sand and put better stuff on or just redo the reel since it took my only a couple of hours. Im hoping it holds up though I'm pretty happy with the way it is here is the other side. and by the way thanks Quote
