riskkid 2 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I tried this in our club tournament Saturday on Percy Priest Lake. Weather started in the 40's and temps rose to the low 70's with bright blue skies and very low winds. The fish were biting. Water temps 68 to 70 degrees. I bought some Owner Jig Rigs (they call it jig rig in leiu of jika rig) with the 3/0 hook. I used a power bait lizard in green pumpkin and put a little chartreuse dye on the tail. Fished it pretty much like a T Rig but it felt slightly different. In any event I caught several keepers plus some short fish. All in all I would recomend it. I'm not sure a T Rig would have been any less effective but I kind of like the idea that the hook and bait are a bit more free to impart more action. Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 9, 2012 Super User Posted April 9, 2012 One of Rolo's favorite techniques Quote
MN_SONNEN_ANGLER Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 what is a jika rig? sorry if im out of the loop on this one haha Quote
MN_SONNEN_ANGLER Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Seems like something i would throw on a rock pile in some deeper water Quote
riskkid 2 Posted April 11, 2012 Author Posted April 11, 2012 Seems like something i would throw on a rock pile in some deeper water Actually I caught the fish in about 5 FOW on pea gravel or chunk rock Quote
PineappleWater Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 I actually tried making one of these rigs myself with a 3/16 oz River2Sea Tear drop tungsten weight and Owner 3/0 rigging hook. Going to try it out this weekend and see what happens lol. Quote
tmier Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 I tried this with a 1/4oz swivel sinker and 3/0 EWG and a zoom trick worm. Action was great but a little too much weight. I didn't have any other swivels and regret not trying a Senko. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted May 10, 2012 Super User Posted May 10, 2012 This is gonna sound retarded but where do you tie off the line tie on the hook? top ring? bottom ring? line tie on the weight? I would think that first ring For most action but I feel sensitivity may lack but maybe not not sure. Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 10, 2012 Super User Posted May 10, 2012 http://www.ontariooutofdoors.com/fishing/bass/?ID=295&a=read This will explain the new rig to you in detail. Quote
tmier Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I tie my line to a snap swivel. Hook and bait go on first. Then the swivel sinker. Lock it and fish. Quote
mikeeasttn Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Have tried it and it works, but could not tell a difference between it and T rig on catch ratio. Maybe I have not used it enough for everyone I talk to that has used it says catch ratio is better. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted May 10, 2012 Super User Posted May 10, 2012 Basically it's a short drop shot rig. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 10, 2012 Super User Posted May 10, 2012 This is gonna sound retarded but where do you tie off the line tie on the hook? top ring? bottom ring? line tie on the weight? I would think that first ring For most action but I feel sensitivity may lack but maybe not not sure. Tie off the middle ring that the hook and weight are attached to. No sensitivity issues - just like a superline punching hook. As far as it being just like a short drop shot, you haven't fished it where you can see it. The similarities end with appearance. There is simply nothing else like it with a craw or even a fish shaped bait. Quote
