That's funny, :laugh5: I like a longer grip. I put the butt of the rod to the side of my chest and then set the hook. Some days I go home with marks all over my chest where the metal butt plate of my Veritas has dug into me.

I'm very old school in that I use shorter rods than most but I have used them so much I'm actually pretty good with them. My flipping set up is a custom 7' Shakiri heavy powered fast action blank, paired with a Pflueger Supreme casting reel which is no longer made but it is built like a tank and perfect for flipping. For pitching I use a 6'6" Quantum Superlight PT medium heavy powered fast action with a Quantum Smoke 150, I just switched to that reel last year and it is great for pitching, I can put a 3/8oz jig in a 16oz coffee can from 35' out consistantly.

I have 2 combos I'll fish a jig on:

St Croix Mojo 7'MHF, Daiwa Advantage 150H, 50# braid

St Croix Avid 6'6"MHF, BPS Carbonlite, 30# braid

The mojo also serves as my frog rod, but other than that whichever doesn't have a jig on will usually have a texas rig on.

What length/action do you prefer while fishing from a Kayak? I'm having some trouble getting a good hookset (may be dink fish) so I'm going back to braid and going with a long fast heavy rod... Thoughts?

Hookset problem solved. I tied my fc to a tree and gave it a tug and determined it was made by slinky.

I changed to braid and went fishing and had had no problems with hooksets.
