Night Baits

What's the best lure to use at night and what color? I've tried a variety but can't seem to find one that works.

You may be able to find the original post from several years back in which Roadwarrior said that night fishing is just like day fishing only darker, or something to that effect. I think this in large part true. Using what worked during the day is a good place to start.

Conventional wisdom is that darker colors are easier for the fish to see in low-light hours. I love fishing a big jig or worm at night. Bouncing a single colorado blade spinnerbait like a jig, or slow rolling it just off the bottom has also worked well. A buzzbait, jitterbug, spook, or something else on top works as well.There is nothing like setting the hook on a big fish at night. The adrenaline rush is very cool. Good luck!

dark colors, any spinner or buzz, in black-purple-red, as well with topwter, heard alot of people using those big jelly worms at night, in summer bass are active allnight.

Note; Remember to be very stealthy and quiet if your fishing from shore at night. The bigger bass come close to shore to ambush the baitfish. There very, very spooky too. Walk softly up to your spot.

Is the darker color really important?? I think they will see the outline of the lure no matter what color it is at night so anything will do. I often wondered this.

I believe any topwater prop lure like a Mister Twister Top-Prop or Tri Alive Top Prop will do. Any buzzbait, spooks or frogs, jitter bugs, poppers and hula poppers.

I have seen guys using mepps inline spinners at 10pm. they actually told me the bite slows down when it gets darker but the bite starts up again between 9pm and 11pm. This one place is very active with fisherman so it quiets down as it gets darker. I started fishing this spot at 3:30am to get away from the crowd.

I believe a pounding blade, using scents and if it has a rattle too is a big plus at night too. There were night spinnerbaits offered with larger single colorado blade with a rattle too.

I'm a firm believer in any fishing a vibrating blade, a rattle and using a scent will give us an edge.

I tend to throw larger offerings at dusk & night..big jitterbugs/spooks,wakebaits/buzz-spinnerbaits,10+" worms,twitchin' 5" redfins...

man,i can't wait for the pre-dawn hunts..low,dense fog,some crazy bird screeching in the distance..tie on a 3/8 black cavitron....wwwwwhheeewwww < [blade-spinning noise on the cast]..chug-chug-chug-chug...kaaBOOSH!

Do the bait fish change colors when the sun goes down?

Color isn't that important, but I do still tend to go with Black/blue jigs with rattles and a Lobster, and big ole 10" Anaconda in Red Bug. Also, never fish at night without throwing a Rage Shad!
