cfebraio Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 Hey, Just picked me up some new Rage Tail Craws in Watermelon and I was wondering how to rig these up and what size hook i should be using to fish it weedless. How effective are these craws and are there better ones to purchase??? Thanks Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted April 7, 2012 Super User Posted April 7, 2012 Best craws IMO. Weedless can be t-rigged, rage rigged, weightless t-rigged, carolina rig, you name it! Jeff Quote
Quillback Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 I fished one yesterday for the first time, I t-rigged it with a 1/16 oz weight and a 4/0 EWG. It had great action (nicely flapping claws) but I regret to say I caught nothing on it. Not the baits fault, fish are in a goofy spawn mode right now and for some reason they did not want the rage craw yesterday. But in spite of that, I liked what I saw and I will use it again and I expect to catch bass with it. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted April 7, 2012 Super User Posted April 7, 2012 While there are many rigging options for the Rage Craw, the most popular, is the good ole Tx rig, usually with a weight (either pegged or un-pegged). I suggest a 5/0 EWG hook, preferrably one with a bait keeper, like a Moaner Stroker hook. http://www.moanerhooks.com/ http://www.ragetail.com/news/03/rage-craw-rigging/ 1 Quote
cfebraio Posted April 7, 2012 Author Posted April 7, 2012 Thanks Guys your tips have been more than helpful I plan on using these rigs to pull up some Bass this season. Much appreciated. Quote
Diggy Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 works well on a jig too but I hate when the fish steal his claws =( Quote
Super User tomustang Posted April 7, 2012 Super User Posted April 7, 2012 3/0 to 5/0 hooks.. Every package comes with instructions Quote
Jake P Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Just put it in the water and the fish will come. Even the Sunfish were killing them last weekend. Wasnt trying to catch sunfish but they were on it like no other for some reason. Quote
TouchTooMuch Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 There are so many ways to use the craw! For jigs there are two ways, you can either keep it the same length for a bulk size or sometimes I trim it down for a more compact presentation (getting ready to buy the chunks so that i am not wasting them!!). I also t-rig it and move it along like a craw swimming away, so in that case you would twitch it twice so that it looks like its kicking let it sit for a second and repeat. and unlike most people when I rage rig a craw I use it to flip and pitch. cfebraio Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 Is it worth dipping these soft baits in some sort of sent or does that even make a difference? Quote
Big-O Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Is it worth dipping these soft baits in some sort of sent or does that even make a difference? IMO, JJ's is the best dip n dye out there, but I don't normally add scent unless it's for a color change. www.ragetail.com Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 9, 2012 Super User Posted April 9, 2012 "Tipped" not dunked in J J's. I'm also a big fan of MegaStrike. Quote
WookieeJedi Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I fish craws on spot removers, trailing a regular jig, jika rigged, and behind a chatterbait. I rarely T-rig them, even though that's how I started out fishing them. I'm pitting the Rage Craws against my current favorite, the Speed Craw. The winner gets the spot in my box. I'll start posting the score as soon as I start craw-rigging again. Should be this month sometime. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 9, 2012 Super User Posted April 9, 2012 Texas rigged, 3/0 Owner Wide Gap Plus, and the lightest tungsten weight you can get away with. 1/4 to 3/8 oz. usually does the trick for most thin to moderate cover. Quote
