Super User Shane J Posted April 15, 2014 Super User Posted April 15, 2014 I can try to find out tomorrow. Quote
Bassintheweeds Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Got wind that Damariscotta lake is open. I will be fishing the open there on the 27th. Quote
KlubbaT Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I hit Cobbett's on Sunday morning. My buddy and I loaded up the jonboat, and pushed off shore, I sit in the back with the trolling motor, and about 15' out, told him to sit down as I was going to drop the motor. I turned to drop the motor, he was to the side of the boat trying to get his rod ready, the boat leaned to the side, and I watched as he lost his balance and flew overboard. Needless to say, I pushed the boat back to shore as he waded. We packed the gear back up, and as we did we passed another guy who asked my buddy if the water was cold. I held back laughter until I got home, but I cramped up I laughed so much after that. Gonna try again thursday, he's bringing a change of clothes. Glad that person wasn't me! Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted April 15, 2014 Super User Posted April 15, 2014 Glad that person wasn't me! your next. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I would fall in on purpose if i could get to it to fish for a couple hours. 1 Quote
KlubbaT Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 your next. You are the one that tells me I should bring my phone with me on the boat. Glad I leave it in car. If I go in the water, you are coming with me in your canoe! Quote
Nashua Nev Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 12 ft jon boat $275 -- trailer not for sale unless you give me $500 for the trailer (what it will cost me to replace it with modifications) trailer is customized to fit this boat perfectly. this jon boat will fit right into the back of a pick up truck. I did most of my fishing out of my canoe last year. painted safety orange in back and i bolted on a front piece for the trolling motor to mount to. basic eagle depth, temp included. I thought i had it sold but person decided to get a v hull 15 footer with 15 hp motor. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted April 15, 2014 Super User Posted April 15, 2014 Even better, is I saw some iced out places today, and tomorrow, the brown truck brings me a new reel! Love those days! 2 Quote
clr9933 Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Shane what reel did you order? And what's your plan with it? Quote
jaystraw Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Plenty of open water out my way. Powder Mill Pond is fully open, including the launch area. Otter Lake is open. I think Stumpfield might be close to open on the parts by the road/bridge, but the main lake was pretty frozen over on Monday afternoon. The road was also closed as of Monday, and this rain will not help. I was also considering Pawtuckaway on Friday, so a water level report would be great if anyone has checked. I was also curious if Spofford Lake was open if anyone is out that way. I would not mind catching some Pike early on. Let's go get 'um! 2 Quote
lonewolf89 Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Glad to hear Powder Mill is open. and Otter. Did you happen to notice if they fixed the launch at Otter yet? Quote
Super User Shane J Posted April 16, 2014 Super User Posted April 16, 2014 Shane what reel did you order? And what's your plan with it? Got me one of those fancy Lew's BB1-Pro's comin'. Had to wait a couple weeks for T.W.to ship it, due to being backordered, but she'll be here tomorrow! I grabbed some of that Seaguar Smackdown braid (50lb) for it, and she's gonna nestle up on a beautiful 7'4" heavy action Cumara, to be used as my topwater and Carolina rig setup. 2 Quote

clr9933 Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 OHH YEEAH is right! Always a good day when there's a reel-sized box on the doorstep. Hope the new combo gets plenty of action... I trust that it will. 1 Quote
Spyder Bass Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 stumpfield looks wide open. only a little ice was in a few places along the shore but the road is closed. im sure is real muddy. Quote

MikeOGNR Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 MikeOGNR you end up northwood anytime in the next 2 weeks I can show you those spots. I'll probably be taking a ride up next week or so to clean up my camp and hopefully fish Northwood a bit Quote

Out of curiosity Shane, how do your top water setups go? I have a 7'6 Quantum Smoke Heavy with 65 Power Pro that is strictly frogs and flipping the heaviest vegetation. I have another topwater setup that is a medium action rod with 20lb braid for pencil baits and dog walkers and another setup with 15lb mono for throwing small poppers and other tiny topwater baits. Once the spawn/post spawn hits I hardly ever put down a topwater so maybe I have an excessive amount of topwater gear. Quote

I only use heavy action, and heavy braid on top, so that's basically the only combo I need, however, I do sometimes use my other heavy stick with big flouro for top water, too. Quote
jaystraw Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Well, it was nice to see snow this AM....not really. Anyway, the road to the ramp for Otter is in need of repair. It's had a major washout recently, and I don't think I'll risk my rig on it. My Jeep Cherokee made it over and back, but I'm not going to try with a truck and a trailer for now. It looks like a recipe for getting stuck, even with 4WD. Quote
Bassintheweeds Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 So I froze I I disagree off in a long sleeve shirt but I went and threw a cast. Fish were surprisingly active. Saw a few in skinny water and had a few flashes on the jerk bait and switched over to a 4 inch Senko and got this little guy. Also someone threw a 12-14 foot jon boat into a scrap pile at my uncles pit. Guess who is going to fix it up? this guy. So looks like i can be all nautical and stuff now. Already have a humminbird i can put on it along with a 2.5 mariner lol definitly going to have to save for something with a little more beef. Also have access to a ton of different trolling motors. This summer is going to be crazy good. 1 Quote
NEjitterbugger Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 I'm going to be getting in my canoe for the first time sometime this weekend or next week... Can't wait just to get out on the water! 2 Quote

I love topwater, throwing a frog in thick stuff has gotta be one of my favorite ways to fish... As of now my setup for it is a 7' MH Mojo rod and and Daiwa t3 7.1:1 spooled wioth 65# Power Pro. I plan on getting a 7'3- 7'6 H rod for my heavy braid setup and frogging and another reel to pair on the mojo... The only 7'+ rod I have is my cranking rod which is a 7'6 MH shimano clarus Quote
