Jigs catch fish ? Biggest bass fish I have ever caught was a 9-1 and it was on a jig. Jigs certainly do catch better then average fish. It is a big fish lure. Senko's catch everything from little 6 inch dinks to lunker bass. Biggest fish to date on a Senko is an 8-10. A lot of people don't like fishing Senko's but at times they certainly do out fish other lures. I have done well in tournaments fishing jigs and fishing Senko's. Three years ago a friend and I  fished a tournament on a highly pressured lake. The jig bite died about 10 am. We had our limit by then but no weight. The Senko's saved us that day. We ended fishing second place, with lunker a 6-4 on a Senko at noon. Jigs are a great  all season bait that catches big bass. I love fishing jigs and would prefer to fish them above all else. There are times though when you cant deny the catching power of the Senko.

I went around with my son yesterday to check on a few places, and to do some ramp litter cleanup. No open ponds yet, but my son picked up 6 shopping bags full of crap from just 3 places. Now today he wants to make some "Please Don't Litter" signs to put up all over. He's a good kid, and is going to make one heck of an ambassador of our sport someday.

It is unfortunate that people are such slobs. I hate seeing litter, whether that is along the road or at the boat launches. I usually end up picking up trash every singe time I go fishing. Its such a disgrace...

I go to gorham hs.

That is an awesome thing to do with your kid. It's truly awesome to see that, as a 2 year conservation director for youth clubs in Maine and Arizona too many kids do not understand the importance of leave no trace. Give him a "way to go" for me.

Shane, thanks to you and your son.  He's been taught well by you that it isn't just about what you get out of the sport but also what you can give back.  Congrats on being a gd fisherman and Dad, Well done.

I hit Cobbett's on Sunday morning. My buddy and I loaded up the jonboat, and pushed off shore, I sit in the back with the trolling motor, and about 15' out, told him to sit down as I was going to drop the motor. I turned to drop the motor, he was to the side of the boat trying to get his rod ready, the boat leaned to the side, and I watched as he lost his balance and flew overboard. Needless to say, I pushed the boat back to shore as he waded. We packed the gear back up, and as we did we passed another guy who asked my buddy if the water was cold. I held back laughter until I got home, but I cramped up I laughed so much after that. Gonna try again thursday, he's bringing a change of clothes.

You thinking about going to University of Maine Orono ? I actually went to college a little ways south of there in Unity at Unity College. Great four years and the fishing in the area is amazing.

No it's a community college. Central Maine Community College I wanted to go to U Maine , but money is a bit tight. So I wanted a school that was good with what I wanted to do, but also with the college experience so I looked for out of state community colleges with campus living and that was one of my top schools. I am going for criminal justice by the way want to become either a police officer or a fish and game. Heading towards fish and game because my moms co worker is the wife of head of fish and game in NH and he's been guiding me through the process

Oh CMCC..  If you want to be a game warden it is hard to beat a bachelors degree in conservation law enforcement at Unity College.  The job placement rate is unbelievably high. I think over half of the Maine game wardens graduated from Unity with that degree and several from New Hampshire. It is a well respected program.

Really? I'll have to look into it. Maybe if I have the requirements to go there could be an option. Really hoping I can get into the game wardens what I wanted to do since I was young. Hopefully get into the job. The guy I talk to is trying to get me into a summer internship at Pawtuckaway state park in Nottigham. My GPA isn't all that great though its a 2.3. Should have probably paid attention more in school rather than partying and going out with my friends, learning that the hard way, but trying for the best.

Unity College is an awesome college. Great place to fish less then 5 min down the road. Great job placement rates for graduates. I had a job before I graduated. If you can go there, do it.

Went to Swains yesterday, the surface temp was 42 in the morning and made it to 45 by the 1pm. There were some coves with ice in them, but were dissapearing fast because of the temp. Caught 1 LG on a silver buddy, but spent most of my day breaking in my engine.

Anyone know about the water level on Pawtuckaway? Heard it was low and not sure if I will be able to launch on Friday.
