Nashua Nev Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 if anyone wants to pay to fish with me in the Nashua river, just let me know when. I am available Mon, Wed, Sat from 3:30 am till 8 am and Sunday mornings from 3:30 am till 9 am. this is prime time and in my opinion the 2nd best time to fish. I really really like the sunset till 10 ish pm time slot. and the midnight to 2 am slot. I am not much of a guide but i do have a boat. Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 After I graduated college I almost became a registered Maine guide. I had passed the written and oral test all I needed to do was pass the field test. An opportunity came up to work in remote Alaska. I was out of Maine in less then a week so I was unable to even take the field exam. Perhaps when I retire 25 years from now I will be a guide. We will see. I just love taking people fishing and see them catch fish. If I take someone fishing and they don't catch fish I feel like I have failed them. Almost 99 % of the time they do catch fish and good quality fish too. I have been a free guide for years... 4 Quote
Super User Shane J Posted March 19, 2014 Super User Posted March 19, 2014 Yup, me too. The best kind! I love puttin' people onto fish! 2 Quote
Super User Shane J Posted March 19, 2014 Super User Posted March 19, 2014 Oh, and here you go, boys and girls. I was going through some baits today, and put together the prize pack for our little contest. There's a couple baits missing from one or two of the packs, but this should give somebody a nice little boost to the tackle box! Good luck, all! 7 Quote
Super User Shane J Posted March 19, 2014 Super User Posted March 19, 2014 That's: (left to right, top to bottom) Lizards, Hawgs, Baby Craw, Recon Worm, Craw, Toad, Baby Craw, Rooster, Craw, Cutt'r Worm, Shell Cracker, Craw, DB Craw, DB Craw, Single Tail Grub, Space Monkey. 3 Quote
Nashua Nev Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 very nice, i have just the right hooks too. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted March 19, 2014 Super User Posted March 19, 2014 Everything can pretty much be fished on a 5/0, with the exception of the Baby Craws, which I'd go 2-3/0, and the Toad, which I like a 6/0 better. Maybe I'll throw in some Moaner 5/0 flippin' hooks (Stick'r), or some keel weighted hooks for some Rage Rigging (Moaner weighted Stoke'r). Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted March 19, 2014 Super User Posted March 19, 2014 Way to go Shane! Nice prize package. 3 Quote
Nashua Nev Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 that works too. if you are gonna add the hooks to the package it will save me from sending my donation of hooks to the winner. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted March 19, 2014 Super User Posted March 19, 2014 Thanks, Derrick. You already declare your entry? I want everybody in, regardless of what they think they'll catch, or when we're ever gonna start fishing! I do kinda think we may have to make May the first month, though, especially if it's gonna be all of the Northeast. Just my opinion, it doesn't matter to me. Quote

Dude you know how I fish, just too lazy to measure. Im in but know in the back of my mind I'll never measure my fish. I think I have enough Rage baits to hold me over for a while anyway. 1 Quote

bobh64 Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Studying to get my guide license for NH here, (slowly)just working on finding time on getting a captains license (it keeps the insurance down) from what i'm told. I have all the first aid certificates paid for from my job. Not looking to get rich but soon I will be looking at a new quieter field of work going on 30 yrs where I work and outdoors has always appealed to me. On the side note If i have days with nobody in the back of the boat around my lakes I will give a shout out here. I think people can get a idea of what lakes I fish in NH and I am a avid Maine bass fisherman also. 3 Quote

Super User Shane J Posted March 19, 2014 Super User Posted March 19, 2014 That's alright, D, we'll at least measure the ones you catch while fishing with me! Quote

bobh64 Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 What is the guides test like? http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Law_Enforcement/guides.html Quote
MikeOGNR Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 That looks like an interesting course. It would be nice just to have so you could do small fishing charters if you ever wanted to. So if you pass it do most guides find job fields or start their own business? Quote
bobh64 Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Most start their own, I would be mostly bass fishing catering to different levels of the guest. Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 It has been 7 or 8 years since I took the tests but I think to be a Maine registered guide you had to pass all the tests getCPR and first aid certified and work under the tutelage of a master Maine guide for a number of years before you could officially be a registered Maine guide. I am not sure if it has changed since then. As far as the competition goes I think keeping it to just New England would be cool, kind of keep it somewhat local thing. It doesn't matter too much to me cause I am all in either way. I know NEjitterbug was brainstorming for this years comp. 2 Quote
nhbassin Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 I agree. Keeping it to New England would be cool since we all know each other, but I'm in either way. 3 Quote

Super User Shane J Posted March 19, 2014 Super User Posted March 19, 2014 Yeah, buddy! Works great in the rivers for smallies. Also pretty blingy on a swim jig, if you really wanna bring the thunder (well... lightning!). Quote
