clr9933 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Stopped by the new Bass Pro Shops yesterday. I really like the layout of the store and it is fairly easy to find everything. The only problem I had was that there was a lack of casting rods. They had a large amount of spinning rods but I Could not find the casting rods I was looking for. I am going to give the store more time because I am sure that they will realize what they need to stock up on. For those that have visited, what are your thoughts or opinions on the new store? I like the layout of the new BPS also, they did a good job with the building they had to work with. I do like the two stories that the one in Foxborough has, but there's no way I'm going to complain about a more convenient pro shop. That place puts a smile on my face just thinking about it. What casting rods were you looking for? Only wondering because there is a rod trade-in coming up, I'm thinking of turning in a couple older rods for a discount on a new casting rod or two. Quote

Spyder Bass Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 ive been a couple times. i do like the foxboro store better but i too am not gonna complain. just the terminal tackle selection alone excites me. can never find what im looking for at dicks. Quote
clr9933 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 How does the rod trade in work? Do you get like store credit or something? The rod and reel trade in works like this... You bring in any working rod and reel, and there's a place near the entrance to Hand them over to BPS staff. Then the discount you get is based off of the price of the rod or reel you choose to buy (discount has nothing to do with the value of what you trade in). If you choose to buy a $30 rod you'll get $5 off, if you choose a $100 rod you'll get $20 off, and discounts everywhere in between. 2 Quote

Phauren Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 I have been given lifetime access to a farm pond that has the perfect set up in my opinion for bass. Going to start stocking that bad boy. Quote

That's awesome to have access to a place like that, especially for a lifetime. Definitely put some bass in there. You can grow giants in farm ponds that don't get pressure, just make sure to harvest it right! As much as it hurts to take fish from the water if you don't you could end up with an over populated pond full of 10 inchers. Quote
Phauren Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Its down here in NC, the owner is an old timer who loves to eat bass. I already told him I planned to make sure I cull the herd so to speak and hes like sure bring them in so I can eat them lol.trying to get my hands on some florida or f1 hybrids Quote
Nashua Nev Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 That is awesome, Make sure you put a little research into it, Doing it correctly is important to get good quality and size fish, (look at Lake Naticook as a good example) (great numbers but 2ish lbs max) and make sure you do it legally. I remember someone in Raymond ? Chester ? possibly Londonderry many years ago (25 yrs) getting arrested for putting fish in his pond. I think he lost his license to fish and hunt for 5 years and had to pay some big fine. Very illegal to transport live fish. Quote
Phauren Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Thats what happened to Lucas pond. This is in NC tho where they have lax laws. Quote

I was looking for any ducket rods or st Croix mojo bass rods. I may have missed them though. I will probably head up this weekend for the rod trade in. Quote

I will trade in my two old Shakespeare rods just to get rid of them. Will both of those rods count towards one new rod? or would I need to get two? I am only asking because it seems like you know what you are talking about. Quote

I asked the same question to the BPS guys, they said that wasn't an option though, just one discount per rod. Probably a smart idea on their part otherwise I bet they'd end up with a ton of old ugly sticks and be sold out of nice rods haha. Quote

Nashua Nev Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Look into donating the old stuff that still works. I donate stuff every year to our local Boys/Girls club. hooks, weights, cranks etc. as well as used working rods filled with basic line. Last year at Sandy pond here in Nashua a boy and his sister were learning to fish with a volunteer , using the poles i dontated last year. cheap hooks , cheap weights a few bobbers i picked up before i brought them over. The kids caught 25+ little sunfish, but boy were they happy. They have no idea who i was nor who donated the stuff, its just a good feeling to see it get used. I am not so sure i would be donating baitcasters as they would probably have too much trouble using them. Maybe we need to have a thread here for guys giving away stuff ? 1 Quote
