I was looking at that rod too. My new setup is a pro qualifier on a 7 ft medium heavy ugly stick. I like the feel of the whole setup and I feel like with my 6 ft medium setups for my spinning gear I lose a lot of edge with Spinner Baits and Texas Rigs which is mainly what I use. That's why I wanna get a 7 ft rod to have another setup that's ideal for what I am doing.

If at all possible, try to go for something a step up or so from the ugly stick, like Jitter was saying. Go with the best gear you have access to, and for a couple more bucks, you'll be a lot happier than with that ugly stick, especially for bottom contact baits, like jigs.

im all for *** rods. thats my rod of choice now. i did use ugly sticks but im so glad i ungraded

Yeah, big difference, right? It's worth it to wait on something a bit better, because at those price points, there are night and day differences in each step up.

Night fishing. Awesome. One of my favorite things to do. My approach to night fishing, is to be as well prepared as possible, and to roll as simply as I can get away with. Life jacket is a must!! Usually only two rods, at least one with braid. Headlamp with white and red light LED's, spare battery for said light, clippers I can hang around my neck, and pliers on my belt for convenience, and to keep clutter down. For presentations, I personally love topwater stuff (Rage Shad!!!), and big ole jigs/Lobters. I have also caught more than a few hawgs dragging Tx rigged big worms, like the Anaconda and Recon. I admittedly stick to bodies of water I am completely familiar with, and always run my gps, so as not to get lost, which I have done. Night fishing really pulls you into nature. It's very relaxing and serene, and you focus much harder on your baits, and what they are doing, so it's a good exercise in feel, too. Like Mainebass said, I really like going right around a full moon. 

 

 

 

PS- Full moon, dead calm water. Slowly churning a Black Neon Rage Shad across the top of a vast lily pad field, has got to be one of the funnest things to do, period!! I have been handed some serious heart attacks doing that! Absolute madness!

Hey Shane, I love night fishing but I only have one friend that enjoys it but he only does salt water (which is also very fun). Deak only likes to fish early mornings.  If you are ever looking for someone to go fishing on a Friday or Sat. night, let me know.  I see the fish you catch so I'm sure you could teach me a thing or two.

I'm going to Vegas March 28th to April 2nd.  I will be ready to fish after that trip as long as weather is decent.

 _{I wish I had a bass boat as well.  They are great to have and surely make it more comfortable fishing. I have caught more giant bass out of my old jon boat then in any bass boat though. Its not the boat or equipment that makes the angler.  Although a 250 hp evinrude or merc probably would get me to my spot quicker then a 55 lb thrust trolling motor.}

Well, yeah, but the options open up greatly having a boat that can handle bigger water, and accommodate more gear. Plus bringing other people, obviously. I really miss having both, and won't be without one for another season.

I just would like to fish Winni and other big lakes more only fish them couple times a season. I fished a couple tournaments there with my uncle as well. By the way anyone know of any bass clubs that will take in Non Boater anglers to do tournaments and stuff? Would love to fish more tourneys this year I fished 3 of them in 2010 with my uncle, but I would love to get into it more.

ive thought of wanting to do some tournaments. and i would love to have the storage options that come with a bass boat.

Just be careful getting a used bass boat with a big motor unless you know what your looking at big motors can cost a lot even if they're 20 yrs old to fix. I would not want to venture out into the broads of winni with anything under 18ft and a big motor to push it through. Last yr I was battling through 2 and 4 footers getting to 3 mile island from winter harbor but the smallmouth fishing was worth it More storage just means more places to lose stuff lol. If there's one item to splurge on the boat that would be to get the biggest trolling motor you can get, mine is a 36vt 101lb thrust minkotta and it runs great. The fancy sonar is great but I think it takes away something from the catch.

I just wanna enter tournaments as a non boater. I think it be fun I just can't seem to find any clubs that would accept non boaters.
