Super User Shane J Posted April 9, 2013 Super User Posted April 9, 2013 Yes it is, Jitterbug! I was on the water yesterday, and it was sweeeeet! No fish, though. Went to Turtle to try out the new depthfinder on the jon boat and have a couple beers with my buddy. Didn't fish much at all, but it sure felt good! 2 Quote
PLombard68 Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I absolutely love the Nashua River. Best Bass fishery around these parts, imo. Although I've never fished the NH side of the Nashua. I usually fish the Mass side and launch off at the Groton,Ma boat launch. My PB (photo in my profile) was taken out of the Nashua. I've seen guys pull 8-10lbers out of there. I also caught a Rainbow Trout near the bridge in Groton one time. I'm assuming it came from the Nissitissit River which flows into the Nashua. Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 9, 2013 Author Posted April 9, 2013 So what is the trick to fishing rivers? Everything usually looks good and the depth can be pretty much the same. I am no beginner and can usually catch fish there, but nothing to talk about. Any tips on how to find them big girls? Quote

I usually fish the coves coming off the river with spinnerbaits and top water frogs. My PB was caught off a black and red spinnerbait. Some of the biggest Bass I've caught always came out of coves along with some Pickerel the size of Pike. Quote

I'll take a ride up the river and see what I can find. Thanks again for the tips Quote

je1946 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Anyone hear of any lakes opening up on the south eastern part of the state? Going to check my little local lake (Swains) Weds I know Massabessic is open, Corbbetts, Canobie, Beaver Lake are open. not real familiar with the law as far as fishing on waters with trout in them. Pretty much all the lakes are open in the So Eastern part of the state. Saw four boats out on the Nashua River in the Groton, Ma area. 2 Quote

Haven't seen them but I'm assuming Canobie and Pawtuckaway Lakes are ice free. Most lakes I've been at or drove by in southern NH are ice free. Quote
PLombard68 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Anyone know of any good spots to fish without a boat and/or shore fishing in southern NH? I've been to all the local places near me (Derry) but haven't ventured out more than 10 miles plus. I understand secret spots so if you rather keep it that way it's all good. Any information would be very well appreciated. Quote

I was out on Cobbett's these last 2 Sundays (3/31 & 4/7). I got one on the 31st was real real slow, I did better 4/7 ended up with 5 in the boat, still really slow, nothing chasing moving baits as of yet... Quote

I got out on the water about 8am and fished in the channel for the first 2hrs or so. I was in my red Nitro. I don't think we would have bumped into each other. However I am sure we were out on the lake at the same time. I got most of my fish after noontime. Quote

Cool, I fish there quite a bit, I launch out of the private marina on the left in small pond. I tell you I was glad to see them putting in the boards on the dam this past weekend. Friend and I literally had to get out of the boat and pull the boat out of the sand, and likewise when we were heading back in. Quote

I took shane in the to fish last year, it was an adventure maneuvering around in there. Quote

That's the one, yeah when the marina is full it can be quite the FUBAR situation. I really like fishing there, however the pleasure boater crowd on that body of water has absolutely no consideration for anyone but themselves. Quote

I usually move my boat right into their path so as to disrupt them. Usually we make sure were off the pond by 9 or so on the weekends, or go during the week. Quote

I try to get out after work on the weekdays when the days are longer. I fish that place the most before memorial day or after labor day. Once the summer vacations are in full swing its a zoo. I will usually go elsewhere on the weekends. I know there are big fish there but I have not seen anything bigger than an 8lb pulled out of there. My biggest out of there was 5lbs 10oz. Quote
