Worked the large weeds flats in 4-6ft. The big one was caught on a keitech fat impact electric shad on a #5 keeper hook with a 1/4 tungsten bullet. upper part of lake got them with texas smoke (basspro color)wacky. 1/2 ounce black and blue jig with a green pumpkin rage tail craw. Chatter baits worked also for some of the fish in the weeds. You can only fish the flats with wind and clouds, if clear and no wind don't wast your time.

Did Halfmoon Lake today.No fish on the big baits in the morning.Once the sun came up switched to deep diving cranks.Must say Deep Crankin' has to be my favorite technique.At least in the summer.Smallies were eager to hit the DT10 on edges of drops along with a couple of LM.Only negative was that none of the fish i landed were over a pound and a half.

Decided to fish a small 15 acre pond this morning.  The morning was a cool 54F and there was little to no wind.  Decided to try to find the steepest deep water drop off and fish it.  I thought the might have gone a little deeper than usual.  Found one that went from 5' to 14'.  Fished the weed bed and pulled 4 fish off of it within 1 hour and 30 mins.  All the fish came on Jackall Gantarel, "Dying Golden Shiner".  After that the I found similar locations, but did not have luck.  I am not sure what the fish wanted after that.  The water was fairly stained too, maybe 1' of visibility; and the sun came out, which made fishing difficult.  That didn't seem to be hugging cover either.  Interested to see how they react with this cooler week coming up.  Have a good week everyone.

I live and fish in South Florida but will be visiting southern NH for a couple of days in mid August. I was invited to fish for trout in a small private pond that is stocked with rainbows. Is it likely there are bass in there as well, and might it be worthwhile targeting them? I am thinking any bass in there might be very fat if they are feeding on the plentiful trout.

My two cents about fishing drop offs with stained water is that it is tough to beat a z-mans chatterbait in bluegill pattern with a rage craw trailer. By counting the bait down once it hits the water, and retrieving it slowly with your rod tip down you can get the bait deep and it still gives off a ton of vibration for the fish to key in on in that stained water. I have caught at least 7 or 8 largemouth over 5 pounds in the last 4 years by doing this, and almost every one of them hit the chatterbait when I paused and let the bait fall for a second.

I think I may try that tactic next.  All the fish were hooked on the back treble as well, so I do not believe that they were trying to inhale the swim bait. I was looking for a big bite though, so that it why I did not switch too much with my approach to the situation.  Thanks for the tip!

I fished my home lake long pond which is located both in MA/Nh on Saturday. For two hours I had the lake to myself in the rain. Caught 10 bass and 2 nice pickerel. I decided to keep the fish in the live well for a picture. All fish were caught on a white and chartreuse spinnerbait or chatter bait. One of the better days I can recall in quite some time.

Where the **** is the Long Pond launch?? I tried going there one night when there was no parking at Mascuppic and i ended up pulling into two different people's driveways thinking it was the ramp

No one knows this secret. There are technically three public launches if you look at a map. The one public ramp is located in Tyngsborough, MA near the Fleur De Lis Club. The Ramp is public, and after years of the Club claiming otherwise and multiple police involvement the town put a sign stating that the ramp is public. The problem here is that there is no public parking. Furthermore, the road to the ramp is narrow. I keep my boat docked in the lake, but I have seen people parking on the side of  right the road of Elm street after passing Oak street. Their is a pay ramp located on Passaconway. All in all, difficult lake to get into. After 1:30 P.M. most days are filled with jet skis and wakeboard boats, so get there early.

Went out today to a spot out in western NH me and my buddy ended up netting 20 bass in 5 hours biggest was 3lbs all fish were over 2lbs. Big baits were the key BBz rat, Glide baits, along with soft body top water frogs and senkos

Went out near Canterbury NH this AM.  The air temperature was a low 62F, and the water temperature was 75F.  The bank around the pond was a 15' drop-off into a barren wasteland.  I had no luck up shallow.  Couldn't seem to buy a bite on anything (chatterbait, swim jig, texas rig, etc.)  Eventually, I found a weed bed sitting in 11' of water.  I dragged a carolina rig with a big 10" throughout the weed bed and caught two fish.  The larger fish was a 3lb.  I tried this on similar locations I had found, but that did not prove to be successful. I seem to be in a bit of a slump. The only thing that will resolve that will be more time on the water.  Just need to keep grindin'.

I've been struggling a lot lately and having far too many skunked days.  Typically, I bring 3 or 4 setups out with me on my little sundolphin.  Baitcaster with either black spinner or white/chartruse spinner in the 3/8 or 1/2 oz sizes; another with either squarebill or gold lipless crank; spinning reel with senco wacky or ned rigged.  Not always exactly that, but I feel like I carry way too much tackle and catch no fish.

 

Had a solid day on Massabesic the other day.  Rained most of the day, but I used shiners 99% of the time and snagged a few yellow perch, a couple really good sized picks and a 2 lb smallie.  I've read so much ***** that I think it's hurting my chances more than helping.  I fish Naticook, the Nashua River and the Merrimack near the Canal St bridge most often for the sake of being close to home.  It's getting colder and I feel like I'm way off on my game.  

 

I think my issues are with lure selection and the way I'm retrieving it.  Happy to test some advice.

When I am in a slump sometimes I try to "keep it simple". Throwing a senko if there is no wind and a spinnerbait when there is wind is a pretty safe bet this time of year, especially with the bodies of water that you mentioned. Also, I know myself and others on this forum have had good luck using a keel-weighted rage craw in place of a senko if that is not producing for you. Good luck.

Got out for the first time in about a month on Saturday.  No soccer because of the holiday weekend so I got a chance to take my son with me.  Started out around 8 AM by hitting up some laydowns. I managed 6 fish with the biggest being ~18", all on a tx rigged senko.  My boy spent the time I was fishing the wood casting a jerkbait around the edges of the lily pads.  He must have caught 20 pickerel.  He would know when the bite was coming because you would see the pads explode as the pickerel came charging out. Ended our day around 12 PM as the bite shut off completely.  Water temps were 63.5 to 65.7 depending on time of day and where we were.

Can we please keep this thread alive?  It seems as if it has been declining in the last month or so and it really sucks to see happen.  Lets revive this b****.  Anyways, I fished three times this weekend.

 

Saturday (Manchester, NH)

 

Weather:  73 Fahrenheit, Overcast, 7 MPH Southern wind

 

The pond I fished was 54 acres with a maximum depth of 17' in the middle.  The water was fairly clear and a cooling temperature of 68 Fahrenheit.  I primarily was focusing on flats located near deep water.  To be even more specific I was fishing a 6' flat that led into 13' of water.  The flat also contained boat docks on it.  I tried to start out with moving baits and didn't have much success (chatter bait, crank bait, spinnerbait and under-spin).  I thought it was weird because there was a slight breeze of 7 MPH, which was moving the water around.  Eventually I started to drag 1/8th Texas-Rigged senkos in the flat and that seemed to do the trick.  I caught a few "ok" fish and called it a day.

 

Sunday (Boscawen, NH)

 

Weather: 74 Fahrenheit, Overcast, 10 MPH Southern Wind

 

I fished a larger body of water coming in at 200 acres even.  The maximum depth is 32'.  The water at the pond was stained and a cool 65 Fahrenheit.  I followed my previous days' pattern and targeted 6' weed flats near deep water.  This pattern was key.  Finding offshore weed beds ranging from 6' to 8' near deeper water is where I caught all my bass that day.  Nicking the top of the weeds with a green pumpkin 3/8th chatter bait seemed to trigger the bites.  The bass also seemed fairly aggressive.  I was reeling in my line at a fair pace on a 7:1 and still would get wacked.  I assume that they are slowly preparing for their winter transition.

 

Monday (Southern NH)

 

Weather: 71 Fahrenheit, Overcast, 0 MPH Wind

 

Smaller body of water, high water temperature. 70 Fahrenheit.  Today was a swim-bait only day.  To bad I could not figure them out.. I caught one, two pound bass near the shore, and that was the only action for the day.  I fished shallow and deep and couldn't catch sh*&.  I guess that is the name of the game?

 

 

Curious to see how everyone else is doing? Any good stories, tips & tricks etc. ?  Hope everyone is having a strong end to their season and tight lines!

That's some detailed info.  Been beating the hell out of a new spot nearby, and even though I haven't been doing awesome; I'm no longer skunking out all the time.  I've been snagging 1.5-2.5 lb LM on senco either weightless or with a 1/8 oz jig head.  Friend caught a 4.29 lb LM last night just before 9pm.  It was pretty awesome.  No wind at the time, but a storm coming and water temp of 60 degrees.

Been doing well fishing a river system at night or before dawn.Throwing the 7" M.S. Slammer and waking it on top.Plenty of 2.5-3.5 lb bass with the biggest going 4-4.

Heading out tomorrow to fish Dublin lake for some small mouth. Figured I'd have better luck fishing for small mouth than large mouth this time of year. Any tips on how to catch them so late in the fall? what kind of depths I should be fishing? I've always struggled catching fish late in the season. I'm thinking a weightless texas rig, Hair jig, and jerkbait? Any tips are greatly appreciated!
