Went fishing for 5 minutes after a massive thunderstorm swept through Southern New Hampshire.  I had a general idea what the fish were going to be in the mood for, smack!

What happened ?

I was dragging a weightless rage bug over a secluded section of pads and all of a sudden all of them rose and I knew something big was getting ready to strike. I killed the bait and immediately saw my line take off. I set the hook with to much slack out and as I tried to reel the extra line in to get a better hookset I saw her launch into the air. It was the biggest head and gut on a bass I'd ever seen, she was an absolute GIANT.. I really think it was at least pound bigger than my PB

Haven't been on the site for a long time. Enjoying catching up on your fish adventures. looks like everyone is having a good season. I'm doing all right but would finally like to master a jig, any tips on what is successful?

Definitely try to learn jigs from a kayak/canoe/boat because you will loose a frustrating amount of them if you try to learn from shore. Having the right line (florocarbon) and rod make a huge different with being able to detect a bite vs. feeling nothing. Good luck.

Don't bring any other lures with you-just jigs.

Fished Ossipee Lake last Friday-Sunday with a close family friend who has a house on the lake. We targeted smallies with tubes, jerkbaits, swimbaits, topwater, etc. Fished Friday night from 10pm-1am and had 1 blowup, but no other fish. Saturday we fished morning until late afternoon with several followers, 1 connect that spit the hook at the net and also had another smallie swimming closely behind it, but no other fish. Fished Sunday early afternoon and had a couple followers and yet again, no fish.

This season has been one of the worst for me here in MA and now NH!

I'll be at Lake Sunapee this weekend.  Never fished the lake before.  Will most likely be in a Kayak.  Any tips for fishing this lake?

This is what I did, and it was magic.  Such a good way to gain confidence in a technique.

From what I've heard its tough. Infested with rock bass its pretty deep, but I would say focus on the smallies if anything look for steep rocky shorelines and fish about 20 yards off of them and you should have luck.

Sorry for the late reply... Jigs and soft plastic craw imitators (craws, bugs, Ikas, etc) fish near lines that taper into deeper (cooler) water will get you bit with smallies.  I honestly haven't caught largemouth in there, though I've heard people say they are in shady spots with timber.

YMMV

Went out today in the late afternoon to try and get on some fish (no idea why I wanted to do this).  Fishing was brutally slow and then the bite finally kicked on for a while.  I ended the day with a total of 8 fish, and a few decent ones.  Back to the work grind tomorrow.  I am looking forward to try and get out again soon, even though I currently don't see that in my future. Tight lines everyone!:santa-107:

Walker Pond,NH 6.4

Great day on Walker Pond. Plenty of 6 and 5 pounders. I have never fished a pond where the bass had such psychotic energy. About 3 dozen LM this one was 6.4 biggest of the day. Black jigs with either black/blue or pumpkin green chiggers. Chatter baits with some copper in the skirts on a fat impact keitech and of course some waky senkos. All from off shore weed lines and sunken tree structures. My friend Ed got 3 5lbs largies in the span of 10 minutes which shows how good of a day it was there.

Second Day of fishing done this time a harder lake for big fish Great East in Wakefield. I got this one on some floating islands, I casted into the junk with a wacky rigged texas smoke senko into the roots. This went 5.2 I though it was around 4 1/2 but scales don't lie so we weighed it twice. About a dozen lm and sm bass today under blue bird skies with little or no wind and the water was clear enough to see down 15ft with ease. If any one wants to ask Huk shirts are awesome.Great East 5.2

anyone got any pointers for Upper & Lower Suncook? heading up there this weekend couldint find any deep structure last time i was there, and didn't do well.

I haven't fished the Suncook region in almost 20 yrs but if I remember right only the upper had the deep water where as the lower got to about18ft or so. I just remember just off the two coves on the middle west side of the upper having the better summer fishing.

Anyone fish Stumpfield lately?  Worried about the water level.  Wondering if you'd be able to get a fiberglass boat under the bridge back but the stumps.

Appreciate any updates.

Anyone have any advice for fishing Winnisquam Lake?  I am going on a trip there and will be renting a pontoon boat on Sept. 11th and 12th.  Will be 1st time fishing here.  Want to outfish the 2 buddies that are going with me.

RMcDuffee726, you sound upset. Here are my two biggest bass from southern NH this year (First is 6, 2nd is 7) and my wife's 3+. Hopefully this cheers you up a little :D. Just like Mainebass is always describing, move away from shore and shallow water in the warmer months and hit the first drop off to deeper water. These came on a chatterbait and a spinnerbait, fished in the 10 foot range of a steep drop off that goes from 5 to 16 feet pretty quickly. Most lakes hold big fish like this, it just takes some time to learn the lakes and some basic electronics to figure out depths. You will get on them soon if you put in the time. Good luck.
