Fishing was pretty tough on Okeechobee, morning was tough and really foggy but as soon as the sun started to show through the clouds we got on a pretty good bite for a few hours but not too much size.. I will admit we fished with golden shiners for part of the day and ended up catching the biggest fish just under 6lbs. After that bite shut off we were fishing in transition areas in the middle of the grass, reeds, pads, etc. with soft swimbaits swimming them on top. We landed around 10 small ones and got one real good bite but she dug herself into the thick stuff and couldn't motor over in time.

Great trip regardless

I no longer buy lead as I fish in NH regularly. Here is my issue, as with many avid anglers when I find something that works I buy in bulk. That way I get a deep discount, and I don't need to place a tackle order every few weeks for more worm weights, jigs, etc. With the worm weights, they are pretty cheap so I could care less. But, with my jig collection- what am I supposed to do with these lead jigs. I know the legal answer- not use them in NH. Possibly sell them. That rubs me the wrong way. Anyone In NH have the game wardens check out whether you had lead or not- seems crazy.

You can use lead jig heads they must be 11/2 inches on the longest axis and you cant sell them in NH so if you have those small crappie jigs then your out of luck but with normal size bass jigs your fine. I have been lead free for the past 2 yrs I just got rid of anything the game wardens would question. The law went into a 2 yr phase full affect this year so you can bet they will do spot inspections when they do a safety check on your boat like they normally do.

the lead law for june 1st 2016 states that all lead under 1oz is illegal, regardless of length. 1" used to be the minimum length but they are getting rid of that stipulation.

best thing to do is sell them to someone who doesn't fish in NH or sell them on ebay. Get rid of them before june 1st or you could be in violation of illegal sale of lead.

tungsten is where its at anyways!

i agree I think tungsten jigs and weights are far more sensitive then lead.  a bit more costly but performance wise there is no competition.

I ordered a bunch of non lead jigs from Mike Siebert of Siebert outdoors.  The jigs were very well made with gd strong hooks at a reasonable price.  Give him a shout, no disappointments.

I grew up in the area. If you want to stay close to North Conway and fish for lakers Silver Lake in Madison is your best bet. There are also some nice rainbows in there too. If you wanted to travel a little further then there a few more options in NH and in ME.

Well boys do to some medical screening technicalities. I was given a discharge from the Navy. Huge let down, but I still have my full time job in construction looking to move to Merrimack in march. So I'll still be slaying some pigs with the 603 boys. Watch out Maine and Shane I'm out for that 10lber. Also thanks to my parents I'm taking a month trip to Florida near Daytona Beach for a week then to Boca Raton for the next 3 weeks to do some remodeling for a past customer of my dads. Hope to get on on some hogs as I will have my little V hull boat down there as well and looking to get some fishing in. Springs coming soon boys keep holding out tight lines brothas.

I feel for you, I volunteered for the Army many moons ago and my hearing prevented me from going on. Glad to hear you will still be busy.

Thats like me..they only knew I had psoriasis because I told them when they asked..I havent had visible outbreaks in 30 years..They said they didnt want to accept a preexisting condition then be on the hook if it worsened.

went and fished the Merrimack at the bow power plant for 4 hours yesterday.  we used everything from jigs to spinner bait to Alabama rigs to jerk baits and blade baits. also had 2 dozen different sized shiners.  we didn't see a single bass had one giant salmon take a shiner right at the boat which was cool. but besides that the water was only 47 degrees right at the bridge there and there wasn't any current to really note.  anyone know what the deal is with that spot? a few years ago it was my winter honey hole. it was still nice to get out in January on the boat, and not have my rod guides freezing on me and getting some casting practice.  anyways early spring this year I think.

That place can be amazing if they are pulling water. This may not be correct, but it seems like every time I have fished there and they have been pulling water, the 2nd tallest smoke stack has been releasing smoke. When that 2nd tallest stack hasn't had any smoke coming out of it, then I don't believe they were pulling water, and the fishing has been very poor. Hopefully that helps.

I now the tallest stack was put in by eversource when they purchased the plant to help scrub out the chemicals from the coal. the fishing has not been the same since. ill have to keep an eye out for both stacks to be running thank you for the input.

Anyone here in the Merrimack Valley Area. My home lake is Long Pond in Dracut,MA. I am looking to join a club this year and really up my game. Have been serious fishing the past 7 years. Got 2 boats. Really looking to elevate my game, and don't know anyone who fishes tournaments or as serious as myself. Any clubs or any good sticks in the area who wouldn't mind sharing their knowledge hit me up. 31 year old normal, no- nonsense guy.

I do tournaments but on the Maine circuit. If you ever make it up to NH go to Northern Bass Supply in Brentwood they know most of the clubs and Sandy is still doing her tournaments.

im pretty sure that northern bass supply in brentwood closed down last year unfortunately atleast that's what I herd I could be wrong
