I am using a medium action spinning rod with 8 lb flouro. If you aren't fishing a silver buddy then you are wasting your time. A lift drop retrieve is most effective. There also has to be baitfish in the area. I like to see fish on my electronics before I begin fishing a spot. I prefer to fish hard bottoms with a blade bait, rocky bottom is best. If you are picking up weeds then the bait isn't nearly as effective. I am going out tomorrow for around 4 hours and will be fishing a blade most of the day. I would be surprised if I don't get around 10 fish with a few 3-4 lb smallmouth and largemouth mixed in.  Once you figure out how to fish a silver buddy and where to fish it then the results will be very rewarding for fishing this late in the season.

One thing worth mentioning is the speed at which you work the blade. 99.9% of people work the blade too fast. I only lift the rod tip until I can feel the vibration start to happen, then I let it fall back down on a semi-slack line. Most of my fish come on the fall after the blade vibrates. My setup is a 7ft M spinning rod with 10lb braid and a 6ft leader of 8lb fluoro. The braid reduces the stretch in the line and allows you to have better contact with the blade. I can detect the slightest bite or snag of weeds using braid.

I live 10 minutes away from Bunganut and have never fished it. Do you fish it often? I've heard stories of monsters being caught there but never had proof. Is there a public boat launch?

Went out today for an hour before work, didn't have that high of hopes being it so cold in the morning and early, but it was fun to go out. I went to one of my secret spots the smallest water I could think of and through a jig really really slow almost dead sticking it. No bites but I saw some movement on the water and some activity. If I can get off work early today before it gets dark I'll go out and try again, WORK SUCKS GETS IN THE WAY OF THE IMPORTANT STUFF.... Lol anyways good luck to all fishing today. Hopefully we see some pigs

We'll boys got an hour lunch today and took that time to go try and catch something at one of my favorite small ponds that always produces. And it just so happened it did had 3 bites caught 1 fish. In an hour I would say that's pretty good. Keep at them boys the bites still on.

Did Bunganut today with my friend Ed. We caught over 2 dozen LM and a single smallmouth, The bite was a jig bite and a couple on chatter bait biggest was just over 4lbs my friend Ed caught but the average size fish was over 2lbs. Bunganut has no public access but Ed was lucky enough to have friends that allowed us to put the small boat from their yard on the pond. Ed has told me that 6 7 8 are not that uncommon on the pond but we couldn't get them to bite. The pond was also being drained for the winter this week so it could have affected the bite. Brought my Gopro along and got some cool under water shots today.

Wow great fish. How were you presenting the jig? Slow or moving it fast

Yesterday I went to a small lake in New Hampshire for 2.5 hours. I wish I was able to get out for longer but 2.5 hours is better then nothing. Conditions were about as perfect as you can ask for the 9th of November. It was sunny, 55 degrees with calm winds. Water temperature was still 50 degrees. Sticking with the game plan I fished one area. It is a rocky out crop way off of shore. The hump comes out of 40 feet of water and is composed of gravel, rock, ledge, clay and boulders. One of the sides of the hump as some green grass too but that side of the hump doesn't fish well this time of year. Every year when the water temperature is around 50 or less the best concentration of fish in this lake is always on this specific spot. I fished a silver buddy most of the time The bite was about as good as I can ask for. I was targeting fish in 15-35 feet. In 2.5 ours of fishing I got 7 smallies and 5 largemouth. Some real nice smallies were biting. I got 5 smallies over 3 lbs all on a silver buddy.

3 lbs 10 oz

I got another decent smallie 3 lbs 1 oz but did not deem it picture worthy. Only one of the 5 largemouth I caught was over 3 lbs, it weighed in at 3 lbs 10 oz. I wish I had more time to fish but for only 2.5 hours of fishing I am happy with the results, 5 fish for 18 lbs 7 oz. The silver buddy bite continues to be good.

Last week I snuck away to fish Lake Champlain. After struggling for shallow water fish we had 4 fish after 4.5 hours of fishing. I convinced my fishing buddy to start fishing deeper. He was fishing a drop shot and a jig. I fished nothing but a silver buddy. After boating a couple real nice smallies he asked if I had one he could use. I leant him one of my spares and with in minutes he got our biggest smallie of the day a 4 lbs 6 ozer. We didn't get many bites but when we did get a bit form 20 pus feet it was a good fish. Our best 5 smalies were 4 lbs 6 oz, 4 lbs 3 oz, 4 lbs 1 oz, 4 lbs 1 oz and 3 lbs 7 oz for a five fish limit of 20 lbs 8 oz. A great fall bite in Lake Champlain.

The silver buddy bite really started for me on the last day of October. I caught 7 largemouth and 9 smallies in 6 hours of fishing. I fished jigs, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, senkos, drop shot, swimbaits, chatterbaits and a silver buddy. The silver buddy was what the fish wanted. I got a 3-10 and 3-0 largemouth. The bigger smallies were biting, 6 of the 9 smallies I caught were over 3 lbs. They weighed in at 3-13, 3-11, 3-9, 3-4, 3-0 and 3-0. A great day of fall fishing. The biggest five bass weighed in at 17 lbs 15 oz.

The silver buddy bite has been pretty great so far this fall. I am heading out tomorrow to an obscure northern Vermont lake. No matter where you are in New England a silver buddy should be part of your late fall arsenal.

Most of the day we were in 25 to 30 ft of water throwing them onto rocks and structure in 7-15ft of water slowly dragging and hopping over the rocky bottoms, colors were a black jig head with either a pumpkin green or a black with blue flake chiggar craws for the extra bulk. I tried silver buddies around the deeper rock piles but no luck. Purple chatter baits with a copper blade with a fat keitech fat impact shad worked well also when the breeze picked up and the clouds came in.

This past Friday was my last time out on the water for the year. The water temp had cooled a little bit from the week before down to 43 degrees. Unfortunately the wind was an issue most of the time I was there. For awhile it was blowing 10-15 with gusts to 25 mph. I am glad it was 50 degrees but that wind made it feel much colder. I fished from 9 am until 1 pm. The area I have been fishing for the past month continued to produce. A blade bait was the only bait that caught fish. I was again targeting a hard bottom adjacent to a steep drop in 15 -35 ft of water. The fishing was a bit tough dealing with the wind. I landed 2 largemouth and 7 smallmouth.  My 5 biggest fish weighed 17 lbs 7 oz. Lunker for the day was a very skinny 3-12 largemouth. The rest of the biggest 5 were all smallmouth, 3-10,3-8,3-6 and 3-3. It is always fun hooking deep water fish on light line. It is always a bummer to know it is the last day out in my boat for the year but at least I had a decent day.

It sure was a great season for me. I didn't get out as many times as last year but the % of fish over 3 lbs was up from last year especially for smallmouth. Landed 43 largemouth larger then 5 lbs. Lunker largemouth for the year was a 7-13. I don't really fish a lot for smallmouth but this was by far my best year for them.  A new personal best smallmouth at 4-13, 60 fish larger then 3 lbs, 23 % of the smallmouth I caught were over 3 lbs. The most memorable day of the year I was lucky enough to share with my mom. It was in May and the bite had been real hot.  We landed a lot of big fish that day. We had a double where we both caught fish over 5 lbs. That was the same day that I caught the 7-13 which she netted after some tense moments on the third attempt.  We def were on big fish that day. It was the 3rd heaviest 5 fish bag I have ever had weighing in at 29 lbs 15 oz. Between the 2 of us we had 31 lbs 1 oz. One heck of a day fishing in Maine.

Best of luck!  One word of advice, though.  My Father was in the Navy and one day I was on base with him at the non-comm club and saw a Marine in full dress.  Being a youngster, I said, hey Dad, that's a sea-going-bell-hop....

My dad had to buy the whole club a round because of that....

So my advice is don't call a Marine a sea-going-bell-hop.

I get back from school on the 16th and at this rate, I'm considering taking the canoe out of hibernation for one day. Forecast is around 45-55 and sunny so I might try to make something happen.

Two buddies of mine took their john boat out and caught several lm over 3lbs plus some of the biggest pickerel of the year on North River Pond Weds.

I stopped by whats left of Mendums and thew around a jig and caught the fattest pickerel I have ever seen.
