How was the fishing?

Fishing was slow, fished from 7 to 11 tried loon three island and bear point. Couldnt get them to bite. They were suspended on the drop off by th hump in front of loon.2 fish all day, same as 4 others i talked to think the front moving through made them finiky.

If they're "finiky", then give 'em what they want. Chances are, you're fishing too fast, and not deep enough.

I'm gonna be living right near the Penobscot so I'm definitely going to bring a rod or two up there... And I'm pretty sure the school has canoes and kayaks that students can rent out, so hopefully I'll be able to take advantage of that!

Jitterbug,  you should be pulling out a new personal best pretty soon.   Send MaineBass a PM.    Let him know the area you are in,  i am sure he will give you a few inside tips on places to go in your area if he knows the area.    Small water can = Big lazy bass.   I am sure in a short time you will find yourself a fishing partner with something that floats and seats 2.   Study hard , enjoy college but even a straight A top of the class student such as yourself need to relax, unwind  and fish.

College and fishing brutally go hand and hand.

I have done some of the National forests one's on and off the road. The best is Jigger Johnsons right next to Bear Notch rd. The swift river is right behind it.

I went to passaconaway campground 2 weeks ago and the fishing was quite decent. There are some small tributaries leading into the swift river that 3 or 4 campsites are literally sitting on the bank of. Right at the confluence I hooked into some nice brookies and something rose on my fly that looked like a juvenile rainbow or salmon which was interesting.

I grew up about 30 minute drive from the kancamagus  highway. I spent many summer days camping, swimming, hiking, and fishing in the white mountain national forest. There is some excellent fly fishing opportunities. It really depends what kind of camping you want. If you want to stay at a campground Big Rock and Jigger Johnson are my favorites. I personally would rather camp in one of the many primitive camping sites throughout the white mountains. My favorite place to camp is Big Sawyer Pond. It is a bit of a hike but the experience is worth it. Big Sawyer Pond has some ginormous Brookies in it. It gets little pressure. Everybody fishes from shore but a float tube is the way to go. It is a very deep cold lake. Little Sawyer Pond is easily fished from shore. The Basin also known as Basin Brook Res is another good place. The outlet from the basin has some really nice fish in it too. The plunge pool directly beneath the dam always holds some really nice fish. There are a couple of other real gems that produce huge native brookies over 20 ". They are difficult to access. All of the local streams are full of native brookies. The bigger rivers such as the swift and saco are stocked regularly with brookies and bows. Some browns are caught as well.  If you decide to come up and fly fish let me know. I got a few specific spots for you to try if you are interested.

I absolutely love fall fishing. One of the best times of year to catch truly giant bass. Each year I take a couple one week vacations, one in Sept and one in Oct targeting trophy bass in New England. Not only is the fishing amazing but there are no more summer tourists, water skiers or jet skiers, fewer fisherman, and much more pleasant days to be on the water.

Agreed I'll be out on the water everyday after work and on weekends trying to beat my personal best. Seeing as how this is my last season in New England for bass fishing as I will be shipping out for bootcamp in February I'm hoping to get on a slob, but all in all I'll be in California most likely for my MOS so I'll be on some Cali pigs aswell. Good luck to everyone this fall.
