jbmaine Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 7 1/2 lb LM at Baxter lake. Not mine. My boss was on vacation last week. He came in all smiles today. He said he caught fish all week, but by far the best was a 7 1/2 LM he caught last Mon. at three in the p.m. on a spinner bait. Wish I could have caught it, but if not, having my boss in such a good mood all day isn't a bad consolation prize. Jim Quote

MikeOGNR Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Quick question for all you guys that have kids. My friends son just got into fishing hes about 6 years old and hes addicted.I put him on a lot of sunfish just to keep his interests up and keep him into the sport, I would like to put him on a bass though just to get him that first big fish. How do you go about getting them on a bass with a 6 year old what lures would you recommend, should I use live bait? Any help would be good Quote

I say, let him fish something simple, like a weightless, weedless, non-live bait something or other. My son is now 7, and has never once fished with live bait, and could probably outfish half this board. Quote

They are often easier to catch and can fight well. Top water frog comes to mind. mebisho Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Still having bicep tendon problems. I can cast for a little while but picking up the canoe is still a no-no. I'm thinking of going to Mills Falls in Nashua and fish the canal. I saw a nice 3-4 lber taken on the 4th, right by the highway. I was also thinking of trying Tower Hill. I understand that there is good bank fishing there. I miss being out on the canoe though. Keep up he good work guys Quote

nhbassin Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Anyone have an address for the Merrimack river boat launch in Concord called the "cornfields" launch? I dont have an exact address, but take exit 16 and take a left at the end of the ramp if you are coming from 93 south, right if your coming from 93 north. The road bears to the left and is West Portsmouth Street. You will see a dirt parking lot/dirt driveway on your left after only a quarter mile. I think it is a pretty rough ramp for a larger boat, and I know the water upstream of it has some hidden rocks that can cause trouble. I usually put in at NHTI to fish that part of the river. 1 Quote
MilfordNHBasser Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Nice fish there Cam.  Where are the pics of your Dads big fish ? He doesn't catch big fish... Other than the 42" snook he caught. But that's saltwater. Quote

My only advice is enjoy your time there. It's an amazing place. I caught many smallies to the east of the NH state park - lots of top water action even in the heat of the summer. Caught a few in the 3 lb range. There are Pike in there but never fished for them. the lake is very big so you'll be limited in your canoe. Oh and make sure to stop at LL Cote's in Errol. Great place with everythitng you need for camping and fishing. 1 Quote

nhpleasantlakebass Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 So over the past week I have caught 32 lmb only 3 were over a lb lol why am I catching all these small guy, it doesn't matter if I'm throwing a senko a top water or a jerkbait, whether I'm in 2 ft of water or 20 ft. Quote
bobh64 Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Bigger baits bigger bass in the deep rock pockets or inlets. examples, I usually switch to a big 7 inch senko a 8inch swimbait or the large berkley chiggar craws on a 3/8 jig to give it a big fat presentation crawling the rocks. summertime big fishing is regulated morning till 10 or 6 till dawn. Think of big bass as lions they don't go out in the heat they stay in the shade and they wait for a big meal that requires little energy expenditure. But that just my theory that works for me. Quote
jbmaine Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 We fished Great East yesterday. Weather was perfect, overcast, cool, lite breeze. But the fishing was kind of slow. We fished the upper basins all morning, then moved to the lower end of the lake for the afternoon. On the way back I saw some activity on the sonar (on a hump) and fished that for a bit. By the time we left we only caught 1LM -1 pickerel-2 SM. Nothing worth bragging about. I know GE has a lot of nice fish in it, but we have yet to hit the right combo to make it pay off. On a side note-- we are coming back to the launch, in the channel between the markers, and we got stopped cold. There was a dive flag with two divers in the water, right in the middle of the channel. We couldn't go around them. I kept tapping on the side of the boat to get their attention, but they ignored us. It was 10 min. before they swam far enough away to get to the launch. Then on the way home at the small rotary intersecting RTE 4 & 109 an out of state car turned LEFT onto it. Horns honking, tires screeching, but luckily no one was hit. So far GE has been a tough nut to crack for us but we'll keep trying Jim 1 Quote
