Been fishing Northwood Lake pretty much exclusively these past weeks just because of the convience of my boat and camp being right there, but what I have noticed is the lake gets hit so hard by so many anglers every week that even my hide away spots out in open water seem to he not producing as well as they used too. This week gonna really put in some work on some smaller bodies of water with very little boat access up in the Northwood area gonna see if I can catch a hog.

Got out with a couple buddies for a while tonight. Landed 5 bass and a decent sized pickerel, as well as missed a couple more. All fish were caught on a Zoom lizard on a keel-weighted hook swam across the top or just below the surface. Biggest bass was around 2 lbs

If anyone is looking for something , plain , simple , light , easy.   There is an Old Town Pack 12 ft on Craigslist.  Its in Goffstown.  Made of Royalex material ,  Its the same thing i purchased over the winter.   at only 33 lbs it is lighter than yaks, more stable , cheaper cost than most, and BULLET PROOF.... easier than a sit on top or sit in yak.    You could get it for $500.   They do not make this material anymore with the introduction of new materials ,  but the new materials are much more expensive and in my opinion not as durable.  It weighs less than a sportspal or radisson and is much more durable.

I stand in mine and fly fish , its that stable.   Just thought i would throw it out there when i saw it.  Dont see many of them.  so light and easy to put on a car roof too.

this is my complete set up with troller motor

Got some bad news. I tore my biceps tendon, I will not be fishing for a few months. I will be having surgery in the next couple of weeks. Will be trying to rehab so I can get back towards the end of August. Naturally, it's my casting arm and I was having a great spring. But I look forward to a great fall. Good luck, I will be reading your posts

Mebisho, I wish you luck. I am recovering from the same thing but I had a torn rotator cuff too. Been out since my surgery the beginning of February  . It is a slow process so don't rush it. Good luck.

I fished Great East lake on Friday. It's the first time I've been there. What a nice body of water. We got a late start and didn't put the boat in until about 9AM, but we were the only one at the launch. Needless to say the lake was not busy.

We spent most of the day trying to catch LM, but darned if we could find them. However before we left I caught a few 2-3lb SM on beds. I'm not that big on bed fishing, but I wanted to have something on my line before we left. All in all a good day.

Got out last sunday, thought it was gonna be a great day. First 2 cast in the shallows i caught 2 bass. Then not a bite the next 3 hrs. LOL Both bass caught on a bass pro stick o bait

The bite has been hot over here in VT. Smallmouth fishing was great last week. Hooked into a lot of fish 3 - 3.5 lbs, biggest was a 4 lb 1 oz. A couple day ago I fished another lake near me after work for about 6 hours. The largemouth were post spawn, lots of empty bass beds and sunfish were spawning. I saw water temps 72-78 depending on where you were on the lake. Fished 6 hours and landed 84 largemouth mostly 2-2.5 lbs. It was some amazingly fast action. Didn't land any lunkers though which was a bit surprising. Fishing has been great lately.

So I've just learned that they will be putting in a weed killer for the milfoil problem on Northwood Lake this year. Anyone have any insight as to how this may affect the fishery? I hope it doesn't kill off all the fish.

They did it several years ago, less weeds=less oxygen the fish will be stressed.

Got some good news. I won't be having surgery. The tendon wasn't completely torn. I have 6-8 weeks of rehab. I'm prepared to not fish at all this year but I'm more optimistic than I was yesterday. Good luck out there, keep posting

They have treated my home waters many times for Milfoil. I can always say that the fish don't die however fishing takes a dramatic hit. I have found they are harder to catch when the lake has been treated.

This is a common practice on many of the more popular recreation lakes here in VT. The herbicides do not kill the fish. They are designed to be fish and amphibian friendly. Before they treat the milfoil patches they will mark them with buoys. While they are marked fish the heck out them, they will hold fish. While they are being treated don't fish them, there wont be any fish there. While they are being treated there will be a signing saying something to the affect that a treatment is under way. The treatments never kill all the milfoil. Once the treatments are done and most of the milfoil has been killed/removed then the few remaining patches of milfoil become that much better to fish. They never find or kill it all. You locate the remaining patches and you WILL catch fish.

North of Lincoln on 93 you could hit Profile lake or Echo lake. Both very good trout ponds. You could also drive west on 112 for about 7 miles and hit Beaver pond. If you're willing to travel a bit further, drive north on 93 past Littleton,NH and hit up Moore Reservoir which is loaded with some huge bass (both SM and LM), trout and northern Pike.

Thanks for the input.  Tried Beaver pond for a few, until it got dark Monday night, nothing.  My Sonarphone showed no signs of life and a surface temp in the high 30's - low 40's.  Tuesday morning I drove down to Stinson Lake.  The weather was cold & drizzly.  I paddled around most of it, saw two bass and a minnow sized fish in the shallows by the road.  After 6 hours of catching nothing but a stick, and getting cold through my layers & rain gear I packed it in.  Water temp @ Stinson was in the low 60s.

My fishing karma went missing this year so I returned home.  Have plenty of work and home duties to take care of there so a vacation for myself will have to wait.

Again, thanks for the info.  Perhaps I'll get back to NH at later date.  The posts of all the members catching fish gives me something to look forward to, hoping I'll catch something good this year.

What will the buoys look like specifically? Like are they a certain color that makes them different from just normal buoys? My plan this weekend is to get down with my snorkel and mask and do some spot investigating find some hidden weed patches rock piles anything. Gonna spend a whole day doing that just mapping out the whole lake. Gives me a little more insight to what's hidden in the lake yea know.

Usually yellow buoys with yellow stripes and black lettering will designate the area as milfoil. the chemical is done by floating orange or green sticks poking up in the water and releasing the stuff. At least that's the way they did it a couple years back..

I got an invite from a guy in my club to fish from his boat a few days ago...  It was my first time actually getting out on Champlain this year rather than fishing from shore, and it was GREAT.  I always laugh when taking off in a bass boat because I know it means the day is going to be so much cooler than standing in a bush on shore trying to cast through a thicket of crap.  We were in the northern part of the lake, and we started the day at 6am fishing for smallies.  We kept the boat in about 6ft of water and were catching fish casting out into 8ft and towards shore into 3ft.  They were crushing topwaters first thing in the morning, and we got a few off beds.  It is a lot of fun to watch fish react to your lure, but there is a part of me that feels guilty when bed fishing.  When I watch a fish pick up my jig just by the trailer, move it out of the bed, and then drop it without me ever feeling it happen, it makes me wonder how often that happens when my jig is out of sight.  Anyways, the smallies were good on topwaters, but neither of us got any on jerkbaits, which I thought was strange.  Around noon we headed to the back of a bay to do some largemouth fishing.  As we were getting into the dirty grassy water I got a decent one on a big swim jig.  We caught some in the grass, and a few out of rootballs along the shore that had less than a foot of water around them.  While in close to shore the trolling motor hit a log and the shear pin broke.  We ended up cutting one of those two-for-seven-dollars flippin' hooks to replace the pin for the rest of the afternoon.  We didn't weigh any fish, but the biggest one caught was definitely a smallie, and I guessed it to be around 3.75lbs.  Our biggest largemouth I guessed was about 3.5lbs.  Now it's back to shore fishing for a bit, no biggie!

Fished Swains today after 2 weeks of no fishing. The fish were on fire and I lost count how many caught(sore thumbs). Mostly 1-2 pounder's hanging around large rocks in 3-6 ft of water. Skipping a wacky rig under the tree limbs and bush's produced much larger size fish 2-4 lbs. Only a couple caught with the new live target soft frog I'm trying out. It was very windy today with the fronts moving through. What worked black jig with blue chiggar craw, texas smoke (bass pro) wacky rigged worm, Live target soft frog, and a couple on a storm arashi squarebill around the sunken trees.

Heres my attempt at some gopro editing of short piece my day there.
