Mshutta Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Like it or not a ban on small lead is coming to most states. Fight it all you want, probably wont help. There are many alternatives, and you will probably be forced to adjust. Adjust or give up fishing. Some states are talking about a ban on lead bullets also. You dont have to like it but you do have to adjust. If you google it you will find many reasons to ban it. I just got myself a less than 50 lb stand up kayak. I cannot wait to use it. I did some investigation on it and didn't find a whole lot to this "bird poisoning" tactic that is everyone's #1 reason to ban lead. Here's the paper I wrote on it: http://basstardfishing.com/Massachusetts_Lead_Bans.html It's based from a MA standpoint, but touches on other states as well.. I tried (unsuccessfully) to get it distributed to anglers in the Northeast. I sent multiple copies to many people within the department of fisheries and wildlife, and state representatives.. I got ONE BS response... Sorry, I get fired up when people bring up the Lead ban issue... Quote
Fly_Fisherman Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Finally starting to warm up again! Won't be too long now. I ventured out on the hard water because I was too impatient. Caught 5 bass 1 perch and 1 pickerel. Biggest bass was about 1.5 - 2 lbs. 1 Quote

MainelyBASS Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I wonder what a comparable feeling would be to the one I start to feel in early March late February. It gets a lot worse when i see a snow storm in the forecast for the weekend. Just another blanket for the ice to hide under. I can only describe it as claustrophobic, like I need to get out of my skin if I don't get to fish soon. I also have been researching what types of saws the dive teams use when they practice rescues through the ice, im thinking if I can find a friend to drive my boat, ill lean over the side and start cutting the pond open. Nothing I do this time of year makes me happy, because I am constantly wishing I was fishing. Quote

It also dulls the pain too which you feel. New sparkling baits make it some what palpable to get up in the morning. I hope this helps. Quote

As far as feeding the bait Monkey, I do it almost on a daily basis, sometimes twice in one day as I work at Cabelas and frequently purchase from TW. I get fair discounts on everything from work so I am consistently bring home a few items after each shift. As soon as a new item hits the shelf I always buy 2. It definitely helps, but cant be my only solution. Quote

mhtranger Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I know not really the right place to post this but......Anyone looking for a 2 bank battery charger I found what I thought was a great deal. Minn Kota MK 210D at Walmart in Salem Nh. Original sticker was $128.00 sale tag said $70. got to check out and rang up at $49.99. Quote
llPa1nll Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 My river is breaking up nicely Nev I had a friend check out the Nashua R. at the launch upriver and on the opposite side from the Mine Falls Dam launch and he stated that the he could see ice as far as he could see. I guess you are talking about a different stretch. My lake Im gonna guess has a solid 18-20" left to go. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 yes, i fish the lower part behind clocktower at lot. its wide open now, except for having to drag the canoe or yak over the snow banks. depending on temps/weather i will be fishing it sat or/and sunday. if you go to the ramp at stellos bring your ice fishing gear, wear a dry suit and carry a canoe with you for when the ice splits apart from walking on it. a couple 50 degree days with no freezing at night and that part will break right up. i put in at technology way to fish. its 2 minutes from my work Quote

I have fished there before. I always get nervous because of the no trespassing signs. I have called that number numerous times to get written permission to fish it. No one ever responds its a nice spot, though I have a hard time getting bit up river from there by "Shortys". Quote
bobh64 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I am almost able to reach my boat to start charging the batteries up. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 you have to go to the main office in the back during normal working hours, bring license and truck registration. they will fill out a form for you to put in your window anytime you use the ramp. basically says they are responsible for nothing while you are there. i would not temp anyone by leaving a wallet or computer in full sight on my truck seat. i have never had a problem. i usually show up about 4:30 am to get in to fish. it is well lit. and the vehicles are in plain sight. i do carry a taurus 40 with me but have never had to use it other than to scare away bear while out in my waders at some remote walk in places. MilfordNHBasser Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 I'm itching to fish as of now... I cant wait, it's killing me!! Anyone have any spots at the most 30 mins from Milford NH? I have kayaks, but shore fishing is what i really would like to do. Parts of the Nashua/Merrimack river are starting to split up i see, but are they fishable? Just any places where theres open water and a chance that fish are biting would be appreciated. Thanks. Quote
mebisho Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Checked Naticook and Horseshoe in Merrimack, there are some openings but no where near the ramps. Both ramp are still snow filled. Seeing small patches of open water is like looking at a nice cleavage, just a tease 3 Quote

Don't know if it's open now but tinker road bridge in merrimack/nashua is always a good place for shore fishing. Go down continental boulevard and it's your first right at the first set of lights I believe. 1 Quote
Nashua Nev Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 nothing fishable from shore yet that i know of. Other than the Merrimack river which is flowing hard Tinker road bridge is still iced over. Nashua river at Stellos is starting to break up at the dam. The Nashua river behind clocktower is open all the way to the Merrimack river. you need a boat. not really any fishing from shore yet. Possibly along the river at the end of Front st in Nashua. Quote
MilfordNHBasser Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Thanks everyone. So the Merrimack is flowing hard? What can i expect to catch there? SMB, Trout? Where could i access for shore and/or kayak fishing the Merrimack? Could I throw Jigs and Trailers, Squarebill Crank? Quote

Nashua Nev Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 There are several places to access the Merrimack, but you wont find me in it with my yak or canoe. flowing much too hard for me. much too had to fish it. except for some insets where the water is not flowing so much with the main river. I would recommend a dry suit if i was putting into the Merrimack down this end. you can catch just about everything in the Merrimack. You could easily fish the Merrimack up at the Bow Power plant. fishing will be slow for sure. Good luck if you go, make sure other people know where you are going. be safe. Quote
