Great East was on fire, 3 hours = 21 bass including 3 smallies. Biggest at 3 1/2 pounds They were definitely feeding after all the rain, some close to shore with deep channels near by or major structure like boulders and such under water away from shore. depth ranged from 6ft to 20ft of water. 1/2 oz black strike king Jig with a rage green pumpkin sapphire, green pumpkin tube jig rigged texas and a slow rolling 1/2oz black chatter bait with a natural shad skirt and green with red flake paddle tail. It was cold enough with the wind I had to dig out my save phace mask while running the big motor. 45 degrees +30 mph wind +60 mph boat equals a cold fun day on the water I wouldn't trade it doing any other thing.

Made a quick video of the boat ride to my next spot today.

Good day of fishing.  It did look like a cold ride on the boat.  In your video the lake did not appear to have been lowered.  Do they lower the lake?

Posted

The lake has been lowered but not that much so far, plus the rain the day before raised it up some. The docks are still at the launch but those will be off soon. I'm hoping to get out on it again soon. The water in the second basin was 62 while the main lake was just above 60.

Looks like that today may be the last day of the season for me. I went to Horseshoe in merrimack and had a good day. I anchored in about 9 feet of water and used a variety of crankbaits and plucked fish along the dropoffs into 13+ fow. The last fish was the biggest, about 3 pounds, in all about 18 bass caught. All in all, I had a good season, especially being away from fishing for over 20 years. Now I need to figure how to download the pictures from my camera onto the PC and then onto this site. That may take all winter

Hit a small lake this morning. Was greeted with flat water and a water temp. of 53 deg.Picked away at them for a couple of hours.Tough fishing until the wind picked up.Rat-L-Traps were the most productive.Couple on a Rapala DT4.Around 10 or so landed.Biggest close to 2 1/2 - 3 lbs.

Last day out with my boat for the season, went to Great East, half dozen large mouths on jigs with black/blue ragetail craws in a 10ft hole behind a floating evergreen island. very very windy 30mph+ had to help tow a small 12ft boat because the water was so rough they ended up riding with me to make the trip faster. Rule #1 know your water and what it can do on bad weather days they didnt realize that Great East can pack 4ft swells in the wind on there today.

2014 season on the boat has come to a end now to hibernate the boat and stock up for next year. Season end notes;

What worked Chatter baits fished with different color skirts and trailers keitech impact fat was the overall winner on trailers., Jigs fished with 30lb braid attached to a 20lb floro leader. Wacky rigged senko's, square bill hard baits pounding the bottom, and finally Ragetail craws hooked up to a variety of jigs.

What didn't work spinner baits ( zero confidence in them!) I know they work but...

Year end tally.

44 days of fishing.

3 lunker tournaments.

3 Maine Bass Trail tournaments.

11 days in the rain.

13 guests on the boat.

1 helping a distressed boater.

Bass tally over 12 inches

Largest 6.2 lbs

6+lbs 1

5-6lbs 11

4-5lbs 28

3-4lbs 41

2-3lbs 102

1-2lbs 306

Next year I plan on matching my set ups for the types of lure set up's I use, also improving my bait casting usage. and of course fishing more I missed 4 weeks of fishing this year do to work issues. all and all I rate myself at a B+ for the year.

Hope everyone keeps catching them I will still be reading and commenting through out the year.

Great year on the water Bob! I did not get nearly that much time on the water. I have not winterized the boat yet but it seems I'm running out of time to get back on the water.

Hope you enjoy the winter (may it pass quickly)

Wow! Great season, Bob.

I got out on the water yesterday afternoon and managed 3 keepers in 3 hours. A 5-11 and 4-11 are seen below, and I also caught a 3-0. The presentation had to be very slow to get a bite.

I have always kept a diary of sorts on my boat, mine is a pack of index cards I use every trip out. Its good to have notes to fall back on year to year, I have 4 seasons with the boat I have now. I also have a couple years worth when I did tournament fishing 20 yrs ago with the Maine state federation. I always enjoys my notes on tidal water while fishing the Connecticut river in Conn. We launched from Hartford, one fishing spot was almost a two hour ride from the launch. the week before the Federation regional's tournament that I was in it rained 11 inches so the river was almost 1-2 feet higher with a tide, talk about making up new ways to fish. going by the nuke plant the water was in the mid 80's and catching striped bass was always fun while trying to catch a regular bass.

I actually live in Londonderry and fish all the time! Small world.  Can't do too much right now while I'm away at college, but during the Spring I can show you some incredible spots.

Some friends of mine fished Balch Pond yesterday 80 largemouth in 8 hours rattle traps were the winner of the day. They had some nice fish from the pics they sent me. 4-5 lb fish were the norm he said. The big bite is on and my boat is officially in hibernation.

I talked to someone at Lovell Lake that told me Balch was great once they lowered the water and the temp dropped.  He told me to fish blade baits or rattle traps on the drop offs.  Too late for me I just finished winterizing and pulling the batteries.

Have a short Winter!

10 fish an hour is great for any tiime of year, especially when the water is in the high 40's. I will be trying a few last times this week before taking the boat out for the season, and will post if I get anything picture worthy.

If you know Dennis Cilley he will be out till Dec with his boat and most likely hit Balch again soon.

Going through the gopro camera pictures I managed to capture my last cast of the 2014 season. I can't wait to capture some actual video with it next year once I learn how to use the camera correctly.

Final cast of the season.

I did get out on Cobbetts yesterday. I brought minimal gear 3 rods, and I really only needed 1. The fish as expected were on the deep water drops, near flats and points. Small soft plastics were the ticket on a heavier jig head, as would be expected. No fish on the jig or the blade, which was a little unexpected. I boated 13 LMB and partner boated 17 for total of 30. In recap it was a great day on the water for the second week of December. The weather was actually very nice. Water temps started the day at 37F by the end of the day it warmed upto 39F.

Were you out today as well? I saw a truck and trailer at the launch this afternoon.

No, Deaknh03 that wasn't me. I unfortunately was working. I don't even use the town launch as my access. If the weather stays decent going to attempt to get out on Sunday again.
