bobh64 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Can't wait vacation finally next week. Hoping to get a lot of fishing in. Looks like Lovell, Northwood, Mousam and hopefully Alton bay for some smallies Quote
Fly_Fisherman Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Fished the Keene Highschool Bass Open this morning. We placed 1st with 12.96 lbs and biggest largemouth bass. Biggest fish weighed was 3.75 but we accidentally chose the wrong lunker to weigh after looking in the bag lol. Next is the State Qualifier. 5 Quote

bobh64 Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Fished Lovell Lake with some long time friends today nothing impressive as far as catch goes a bunch of rats nothing over a pound and a half. The storms from yesterday put the fish in hiding. Chatterbaits, Tubes and wacky rigged baits worked. did lose about a 3lb smally off a chatterbait it put up several jumps fighting me before it spit out my lure guess I will just have to catch him another day. Tomorrow I will be on Mousam with my dad. Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 The fishing this weekend was good size wise but the number were lower then usual. Friday was much windier then they forecast. I was out on the water at 8 am until 8 pm. It was hot almost 90 degrees and the fish really weren't biting well. I caught a few fish early on the jig. Biggest fish of the morning was a 3 lb 9 oz on a jig. The jig was producing well. I did try a texas and wacky rigged worm, a hollow body frog and crankbait with not much luck. The mid day hours were really tough. I didn't get a bite for several hours. I was fishing my best spots and wasn't catching anything. I did get one of my favorite crank baits stuck on a log and busted it off. That's always a bummer. I switched tactics from deep wood to 3-8 ft and weeds. That wasn't producing well either. I did manage one fish on a frog, a 2 lber. A couple hours had past and it was about 3 pm now. I went back out to the deep trees. First tree I stop at a 2 3/4 smallie, cool. It was nice to catch a fish again. The second tree I caught a 2 lber on a crankbait. Pull up to the 3rd tree. First cast a big fish slams my jig. The fight was on. Using 50 lb braid this fish was still kicking my butt. It got wrapped in the tree really bad. I had to go in and get it. Even then it wasn't coming out easily. I tried for a couple minutes before finally getting it free. It was a big fish, biggest of the year so far. Once I had it in the boat I noticed my crankbait sticking in the side of the fish. It must have caught it on the log when it was wrapped around it. I was glad to get my crankbait back.  Crankbait stuck in the fishes side. I caught the fish on a jig.  7 lbs 4 oz 23 inches long   I continues fishing the deep logs with not much luck. It was getting a bit later now and with the sun setting so early now I decided to head back. Of course I had some places I wanted to fish before leaving. The same places that I was getting jig bites in the morning weren't producing. I switched to a texas rigged rubber worm and started getting bites again. I was fishing thick shallow wood. Most of the fish I was catching were 2-2 1/2 lbs. I did mange one better fish. It slammed my worm.  5 lbs 4 oz  I ended the day at about 8 pm and it was dark by then. I packed up all my stuff with a head lamp. Even though it was a much windier day then they had forecast I was able to deal with it. Big open lakes in a small square boat usually isn't ideal. I had to anchor at spots so I would be able to fish. I couldn't hold with the trolling motor. It was a good day fishing. 12 hours on the water 17 largemouth and 3 smallmouth. Biggest bass of the year so far a 7 lb 4 oz.  Saturday I did not have much time to fish. I launched the boat at 3pm. I figured 4 hours our so would be better then nothing. It was another super windy day. The fishing started out slow again. Then the wind picked up even more pushing 25 mph and that just plain sucked. Then the rain started. It was a torrential down pour fro about an hour. I had to bail out my boat, a couple inches of water had accumulated. After the storms had passed through the air temp went from hot humid 87 degrees to 65 cool and crisp. The fish bit much better after the front passed through. I got one big fish bite off of a deep tree. Before leaving I boated a 3 lb 3 oz and a 3 lb 2 oz on jigs. I ended the day with 10 largemouth, not bad given the time restriction and the weather. Lunker for the day was a 6 lb 3 oz on a jig.   I am really looking forward to a couple weeks vacation starting at the end of the month. 2 Quote
bobh64 Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Fished Mousam today with my dad. It was a good biting day the bigger fish were scarce with my biggest at just under 4lbs but my dad had a blast no matter what catching 3 nice quality fish to smile about. As people always say its not quantity but the company you fish with. He is always happy to show off the fact he can catch a bass no matter what time of year with a blazing yellow chartreuse gitzit.  Next Lake will be Northwood Weds 3 Quote

Believe it or not I have the original bags of these in the hundred packs when I used to buy them 20+ yrs ago at northern bass when I used to tournament fishing I still have usa black(black w/red,blue white speck), chart, smoke blue (blue gill), rootbeer float (pumkinseed brown with white tail) and craw orange(orange with black speck). these were my favorite colors back in the day. bobh64 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Another day of fishing on vacation this time Northwood lake. This one is new to me. I don't why I haven't fished this since it is close enough for me to travel to. The gentleman who I am taking with me has won a couple tournaments on it so I think I can at least find something. Have a good day all. Quote
bobh64 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Tough day fishing on Northwood I only caught 1 smallmouth about 2 lbs my buddy Paul caught 3 fish including one at 5.2 lbs. He says its the moon phase (full) I don't get to much into that, all I can say it was a tough day on a lake I have never fished before.  Chatterbaits were the winners for both of use but Paul also got 2 with a 5/8 black jig rigged with a black neon rage chunk. 2 Quote

Northwood has been crushed with tournaments lately. I had one there 2 weeks ago, and the fishing was very tough for everyone. Not so much for me on Northwood, but Chatterbaits have been my "bait of the year" so far for 2014. Ive been pairing them with a rage craw or rage rooster for a huge profile and its produced well.  2 Quote

Mainebass1984 Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 High School Bass Fishing team went out for practice yesterday and I caught this 6-1 slob on a texas rigged Rage lobster! Â Â Heck yeah ! Nice fish ! You will want to see her on tournament day and a couple of her friends too. Â Yesterday I fished an evening tournament on Lake Dunmore. My partner and I caught over 30 bass finished in 1st place and got lunker. It was a blast. We caught most of our fish in 10-20 feet of water on rattle traps and weightless worms. With this 3rd win in a row I do believe that I have Angler of the Year all locked up for my bass club here in VT. 4 Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Who is going fishing this weekend ? Big cold front moving in. Daytime highs in the low 60s. Going to feel a lot like fall. I will be fishing saturday and sunday regardless of the weather. 1 Quote
KlubbaT Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Anyone looking for a fishing partner this weekend? All my fishing buddies have quit for the year and I don't like to quit till some time in Oct. I'm free all day Sat. and early Sunday until the Patriots game. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I will fish as long as its not frozen, Cant fish this weekend though as we are on an anniversary vacation. No hockey , No fishing. quietness, the beach somewhere at the Cape, lots of food , and night time entertainment.   The wife has made all the arrangements and i have no complaints. 2 Quote
bobh64 Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Just got finished fishing Swains  almost 2 dozen and if you know anything about Swains there aren't to many big fish in there. Was catching both LM and SM in there today. Swains is like my therapy lake I go when I need to go back to basics.   I will be fishing till the last week in Oct or the first hard frost then its time to put my boat in hibernation.  NH Bassin you mentioned that Northwood has been getting pressure from back to back tournaments I just checked the NH calender and your right, 13 weeks of tournaments this year so far. The NH state fish biologist who handles these permits should be fired for letting this happen! The local clubs should be more responsible and pick some different lakes. Being a past club officer and tournament director I was always conscious of the fact of how the calendar and lakes matched up versus other clubs in the state.  Maine has a limit of 4 tournaments (bigger lakes 5) per lake per year to reduce that amount of stress. Remember we are all conservationists!  Looks like I will be on Arrowhead Sunday with a bunch of fishing friends.  Have fun all. 3 Quote
mhtranger Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Fished today on Mendums and boy was it rough. Only managed 4 fish and one was a pickerel. The three bass were at least decent size. Fish all over the finder chasing bait but couldn't get them to bite anything I threw at them. The ones I did get were on a 3/4 oz blk jig with a 12 power worm. They hit that thing so hard when they do bite!!  Wind and cold front I think were my enemy today.. Quote

BR1AN Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 any of you Southern NH & MA residents know where me and my buddie would have the best luck catching a nice pike? I heard the Merrimack River has some but our boat can't handle it. Also Lake Cochichewick in North Andover apparently has some.. But haven't heard much. Â Any help would be great! Quote

I have heard pike in different places even in Mendums but no strong populations other then normal places and rivers CT and Merrimack, In Maine Long Lake is being recognized as having some heavy pike now, I have had some decimate my bass lures a couple times. 1 Quote

YungAngler Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 Fished the Quabbin Reservoir in Mass on Friday. The wind was brutal in the AM, but as always I ducked into a cove that has produced some very large smallies for me. We only caught a few small mouth, but they were very quality, including pics of a 4lber below I landed at the end of the day. I know it's a hike for us NH guys, but I can't say enough great things about this place. I'm convicned there's a record SM in there. Rattletraps and chatterbaits were the winner yesterday. 2 Quote
