But those are the people who consider 2.5" to be fishable ice. I like 4+ of good ice myself. Quote
je1946 Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 It always amazes me how people are willing to risk there lives for a fish. The weather has not been cold enough for ice fishing. The snow helps insulate the already formed ice. Hit one place where there's a spring and the outcome could be lethal. Discretion is the better part of valor. Be safe don't risk it. Quote
Micropterus Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 Me and a buddy checked out a spot in Loudon today, had a good 5 inches of ice in a lot of spots, but would be literally 30-40 ft away from crap ice spots, and our holes were flooding pretty good. We didn't catch anything, couldn't get out to the spot I wanted to go to, I still didn't trust it, we stayed right by the launch. Quote

Your braver then I am 40+ yrs of ice fishing myself, 2 inches of ice can barely withstand 200lbs in a 4ft radius. 4 inches is the minimum to safely walk on according to fish and game. I got so tied up in chasing fish this year, I forgot to do anything else. I hope you all are happy and healthy in this new year, and have big plans for '17, like I do! I had an amazing 2016, both fishing wise (had the best year I've EVER had), and life wise (started my own business), and I'm gonna ride that Freight Train right through the record books in 2017. I broke my PB (for New England) this year, which has stood at 9-1 for over 5 years, and inched me closer to that double digit mark for NH fish. I'm at 9-4 now, and have a handle on at least 3 places that I've found fish as big or bigger, so I don't plan on holding onto this PB for 5 years. I'm in seabrook and lookjng for some good bassin spots within an hr of meb to hit with my kayak in the spring? Anyone have any thoughts on the taylor river? How is the fishing? Where to launch? What baits to throw? Thanks! Welcome to NH! I would start by trying the Lamprey River in Newmarket, near the Dreher - Durham Boat Company on 108. There are huge alwive spawns there in the spring so bass have the forage to get big. I also would try Mill Pond in Durham and you can fish your way up Oyster River that slowly flows into it. Both have slow current and should not be an issue for a kayak. Good luck! 1 Quote

Last time I fished Taylor I launched On Town Farm RD just after the bridge there was a little parking area but that was several yrs ago there are bass there but it gets pressure from ice fishing near the open area next to 95. If your looking to Kayak tournament bass fishing give Granite State Kayak Anglers a call they are on Facebook. I am mostly big boat bass fishing. Quote

bobh64 Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 Depends on what stage spring would be when you get out. Its all dependent on water temp and structure. Stick baits shadow rap my prefered (suspend) dark un weighted worms (wacky rigged) darker color ragecraw work well at this time but the key is "s l o w" presentation like sometimes 30 seconds a movement.
