RMcDuffee726, you sound upset. Here are my two biggest bass from southern NH this year (First is 6, 2nd is 7) and my wife's 3+. Hopefully this cheers you up a little :D. Just like Mainebass is always describing, move away from shore and shallow water in the warmer months and hit the first drop off to deeper water. These came on a chatterbait and a spinnerbait, fished in the 10 foot range of a steep drop off that goes from 5 to 16 feet pretty quickly. Most lakes hold big fish like this, it just takes some time to learn the lakes and some basic electronics to figure out depths. You will get on them soon if you put in the time. Good luck.

Awesome fish.Been fishing deeper for years and a avid user of the percentage triangle. even small ponds will have what it takes. Have alway caught the big ones on lakes I have never fished before. Good luck all, I know its slow but the bigger ones are moving now. Just wish I could get more time off from work to fish.

Dog days of summer and summer vacations,  i have not fished much lately with work and vacations.  The fish are there.  Think Temperature.  bass like their water about 70 and will do their best to find what they like. They like to be comfortable.   water temps here in southern nh are up towards 80 and + ......  bass cannot turn on the air conditioner but what they can do is swim to cooler water and they are sensitive about it.  deeper water , cooler water that is in the shade , and under weeds and lily pads especially those out of the sun.  I finally get out tomorrow and sunday and expect to find them in these places.   at drops where they can come up for bait fish , as well as relaxing in shady places.   in my thinking right now it revolves around them finding their temp comfort zone.   as the water cools off in the next month or so expect to find them in the sun again assuming temps drop.   fish slow ,  3 inch black worm or bug and just let it sit for up to 2 minutes , twitch for a few seconds moving in the bait towards you maybe 5 or 6 feet then let it sit.   slow moving cranks maybe , or suspending slow.   i will be using rage bug in junebug color tomorrow to start.

Hey all so this is sort of last minute but I was at the gas station and met a high school kid with a bass boat whom was looking for someone to be a boat captain for their tournament on Winni at 8 Saturday morning. I would love to be their captain but I'm moving into school that day so not sure if I can swing both. If anyone is willing to donate their time let me know. Thankso all

How is the fishing at pawtuckaway in nottingham? We needed to test the new motor so we decided to go there. Only did a few casts but it was mainly a test run.

Hearing from some of my fishing friends that lakes are getting low (whats new) Just remember those rock shoals are a lot closer then you think in lower water. Some state ramps are closed now including Massabesic.

CANOE OR KAYAK AT MASSABASSIC IS ALL YOU NEED.  WATER IS COOLING OFF , SLOWLY BUT IT IS COOLING. DONT NEED A BIG BOAT AND TRAILER TO CATCH FISH.   MUCH LESS PRESSURE ON MASSABASSIC , GET THOSE LITTLE BOATS OUT THERE.   DONT TOUCH THE WATER.

Anyone ever fish Province Lake on the Maine border? I am going up this weekend to visit family friends and I will be doing some fishing.

I am hitting up Belleau Lake in East Wakefield for a bachelor party this Friday-Sunday. A few of us plan to put in some solid hours on the water, but we cant find much info online because NH Fish and Game does not have depth charts posted of the lake. Does anyone know if there are decent smallmouth or largemouth in there?

Theres some really nice Largemouths in Belleau, be careful though. The lake is loaded with stumps and at times the water is just stained enough to hide them,.. My buddys family has a cabin on the lake and we fished it some. Black/blue jigs did well. He did catch 1 smallie,  but in all the years he's been fishing it,.. it was the first and only, He figured someone transplanted it.

Thanks for the input Keith. My buddy and I fished the northern portion of Belleau lake from 5:30 am - 10:30 am on Saturday. Even in the middle, it rarely got deeper than 3 feet. I managed 1 smallmouth, 1 largemouth, and broke off a 2.5-3 pound smallie at the boat. We couldnt get anything on top waters, spinner, squarebills or chatterbaits, but did get a few with a kut-tail worm. Belleau is far different from most lakes I have fished, but I would go back if I had some good electronics to search for some ditches/channels.

Seems to be a bit quiet here of late. The bite has been red hot lately guys ! Get out and fish ! With the water temps cooling into the low 70s and upper 60s the fish have been really hitting. From now until Thanksgiving the bite should be good.  It is one of the best times of year to catch big fish. Big fish have been biting.

No problem, If you do get to go back,... flip the stumps. We used to slay them there, and they had that "steroid" fight to them. so much fun. For you to see 2 smallies in one outing? Someones either planting them, or they found a way in. Years ago there was just largemouth. With my buddy getting one smallie just before they sold the cabin.

Has anyone fished squam lately? If so, any input ?

Going up this weekend and fishing for two days.

If no one has fished it does anyone have experience on the lake? Specifically this time of year ?

It has been a bit quiet haven't really caught anything of size a few 3s but a lot of numbers recently went up to Moore reservoir in search of some pike caught atleast 15 smallies the whole trip great body of water and we found a dead 36 in pike there aswell. So we figured they were in the northern part of the lake.

Nice fish guys. This past summer I fished a few tournaments and the fishing was good. I just had 11 days off, my annual September bass fishing trip. A couple tougher days mixed in on Sebago but overall it was fantastic fishing. The water temps cooled off significantly down into the low 70s and upper 60s. The topwater bite really picked up. I absolutely love big fish on topwater. I also had a couple great days with a crankbait and a jig. The fall bite has begun and it is my favorite time to fish. Later on today I will try and post some pics.

I havent fished it at all this year, but.,.... I recommend that you buy a lake depth map. This lake is known for its dangerous rockpiles, rocky shoals, and reefs. And depending on where you are and where your heading you can be in 100 ft of water cruising along and within 15 yards be in 2ft of water, wondering why your lower unit is no longer on the motor.

This is very important, get a lake map, be careful, and follow the dotted "boat lanes" on it. Its so easy, even with a map, to get disorientated and get yourself in trouble there.

I've been fishing there for over 20 years now, and still bring and follow my map,...everytime!

As for fishing? probably the best smallie lake in all of New England, at least for numbers of smallies anyways,..but some of the big ones there, probably push state record size. I had a blow up, on a pop-r over deep water next to a "just submerged" boulder that was giant. Came out of the water like a great white after a seal, and as I watched my pop-r shoot if in a different direction, I muttered to myself,...God! why ?,.why ?

Pop-r's, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, grubs on jigheads, crankbaits, plastics,..they all work. there's smallies all over this place, trick is,..among all the areas to fish ,..you need to find the good ones. Even the ramp area, whether theres current or not has good smallies. Even little squam, has decent fishing with some impressive largemouth. theres more buckets up in the weedy northeastern area of squam itself. But the majority of the lake is loaded, and I mean packed with smallies. If you dont catch any? theres something wrong.

Have fun and good luck, and whats the # 1 rule for squam???? bring a map! use it! if not your screwed!

 Keep ya line wet!

Sweet deal, thanks man. I've heard it's a pretty dangerous lake in terms of the rocks. Heard some horror stories about lower units coming right off. Thanks for the heads up. I use navionics so that we'll help. Is there anywhere i can get a paper map?

also do you suggest any specific areas for largies where they like to hang? Not like exact spots, but general areas.

Also the same question for smallies? Do you know general areas ?

Thanks bud !

Theres a tackle shop in merideth just off rt3  not far from the winnepesaukee boat ramp,... heading south its part way up the hill,..I think its maple st,. and mill st's connection. They had some maps there. and some of the general stores in the area might have some as well.

As for largemouth? the western end of little squam, and squaw, and deep coves.

Smallies? they are everywhere. potato and perch islands area, and anywhere around long island is usually decent,

But again, be careful. even on the trolling motor, trim the primary motor up some. The water is usually crystal clear and the shallow rocks that are submerged can be decieving.

anyone got any pointers for Bow Lake this time of year, heading up there this weekend, wasn't good last time i was there, and didn't do well. any pointers on where and what would work?  Smallies..... Largies...

Thanks, and Tight Lines!
