Umbagog is on my bucket list.  You staying overnight ?  I guess as far as lodging goes there is Paradise Point, Errol Motel and the state park camp ground. do you have any recomendations ?

I stayed at the State Park last summer.  The Rangers were very nice and very accomodating - we didnt have a reservation and the park was full, but they made space for us.  As far as State Parks go, this was one of the nicer ones I've been to in NH.  Oh, and the fishing was slow, but it was hot, and we stayed pretty close to the park.  We did catch several nice smallies on our last day late in the afternoon.

I just got a few days at a resort in Lincoln comp'd in the first week in June. Any recommendations for good kayak fishing within reasonable driving distance?

Thanks, in advance, for your help....  buying my non-resident fishing license after I post this....  looking forward to a few days of 'uninterrupted' fishing.

North of Lincoln on 93 you could hit Profile lake or Echo lake. Both very good trout ponds. You could also drive west on 112 for about 7 miles and hit Beaver pond. If you're willing to travel a bit further, drive north on 93 past Littleton,NH and hit up Moore Reservoir which is loaded with some huge bass (both SM and LM), trout and northern Pike.

Did Swains with a friend today for 3 hours after the rain stopped, got almost a dozen, biggest about 2lbs all fish were skinny. I'm thinking this lake is post spawn now. black jig with a pumpkinseed green chiggar craw, and texas smoke wacky worm caught the majority today. My buddy caught a couple with his homemade chatterbait.

Thanks for the info. I plan on hitting at least two different locations.

Last week, Mousam had quite a few areas that were post spawn as well. I must have caught 30 fish that were half a pound to two pounds. Ive never gone through so many plastics in one outing. That told me two things--big girls moved out and males were in full blown protection mode destroying anything that got near the bed. Also fished Square on Sunday with the Hoopers and it was a crap show, every fish in the lake was on a bed which is no fun for the guy in the back of the boat. Spent all day watching my partner position the boat so he could fish beds and I was just an after thought. This is just a small part of the suckiness of not having your own boat which I wont this season, or maybe ever again.

What parts of Mousam did you fish? I used to fish Mousam a lot, but in the last few years it seemed to have gone down hill, at least for me.

I only fished lower Mousam that day. When i am targeting largemouth in the Spring, I don't leave lower Mousam. If I was looking to get into a smallmouth bite, obviously I would head up the lake a bit. To be honest, I shut down from fishing Mousam around Memorial Day and pick back up after Labor Day. The lake gets too busy for me and it often times is unsafe for fisherman like myself who fish off shore humps in the summer. People get so angry that I am not fishing around the shoreline like its some sort of forbidden rule that you can't leave the bank to fish. Coincidentally people also get mad when I fish around their docks out there too. You cant pay me to go out on Mousam in July or August. Spring and Fall produce really well for me out there. Lots of fish in the 3-5lb range.

Night time jitterbugging time.  dark night in the trees down to some water , calm water, completely silent except for some car noise till this guy.   stopped on my way home from Loudon at a little spot i found off the highway thru some trees.

A lot -a real lot-  of small 1 1/2 - 2 1/2  lb bass this yr.  and a lot of aggresive 15 - 20 inch pickerel.   This was my first night time ,  had only about 1/2 hour to fish ,  was worth the trek thru the trees to get there.

a lot of fish so far this year on weightless craw and creature baits.   rage craws , bugs , and space monkeys.  hitting them after i am twitching them , not during the drop.

I will just fish the big part of Mousam after Memorial day the ramp area becomes a race track with the skier's and tubers going full throttle without a clue.

A bass fisherman's worst nightmare happened last week. I blew the powerhead in my Mercury. I think my season is done after only 6 trips out. Im getting quotes from $3-$5K to repair with a new powerhead. Used O/B's arent that much more expensive. I have no clue what I am going to do. With my wife being pregnant with twins due in August I can't afford to repair the motor, even if I had the money to do so. Aside from losing a family member, this is the worst i've felt in my 31 years on earth. She was my baby.

You could always take up shore fishing

Been seeing largemouth and smallmouth on beds in Maine and Vermont the last couple times I have been out. The spawn is on. Got a bunch of nice smallies on beds yesterday. Fished 3 hours. Caught 7 smallies over 3 lbs biggest being 4 lbs 1 oz. It is always fun to see them react to your lure. Bed fishing isn't exactly my favorite though. Still was a blast.

I absolutely hate bed fishing. Especially when there is more than 1 person in the boat. I just fished an event where the guy up front fished beds all day and I had nothing to cast to all day, it was beyond boring. When I have another person in the back of the boat I spend most of the time worrying that they have fishable water to cast to. That's not to mention the vulnerability of the fish...you could thread a cigarette butt on a hook and they would bite it.

Fished the two Merrimacks ponds. Yesterday Naticook was quantity well over 35 fish, bass and pickerel. They wanted the Live Target bluegill square bill bad. I caught 7 fish on 7 casts in a row. I can't remember doing anything like that before.

Today, Horseshoe gave me one of my top biggest freshwater fish, it might be #2, a pickerel that was easily a yard long and very thick. I got it on a small PopR and it just kept taking line like a tuna. My guess is about 9 pounds. There were plenty of quality bass too, again on that square bill. Ive had a great spring and I still have 3 more days off

That is a real big pickerel. I think the state record is 8 lbs in NH. Perhaps time to get a scale.

I like taking kids and people who are relatively new to fishing out for a day of bed fishing. It can be really fun to see how they react. I would hate to be a non boater in a bed fishing tourney. Sorry to hear that happened to you. The guy in the front should have not been such an ***. If you are just fun fishing then a day or two of bed fishing can be a blast.

Anyone fishing this weekend that wants or wouldn't mind a fishing partner? I haven't been able to get out much and haven't had much luck yet this year.

Returned from the trip to lake umbagog on Friday. Fished Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday was 41 degrees, rainy and wind gusts to 35 miles an hour (no boats on the lake). The weather cleared on Thursday, but the temp dropped into the 30's early that morning. We ended up catching 92 fish, mainly 1 to 3 pound smallmouth with a couple of large pickerel thrown in. One long skinny male at a little over 4 pounds was all beat up from making a nest. The majority of the lake was in the mid to high 50's with some areas in the low 60's. We never did find the big girls but we still had a blast.

Fished Horseshoe in Meerkmack this morning and as I was packing up, a guy asked if I caught anything. I told all I got was one small bass. He then said that he caught a 12 pound bass from there. I looked at him and then his fishing gear and he asked me what I thought of his catch. I told that I thought he was full of s**t. Kind of mean, I know. I believe that there are some large fish there, I also believe that any bass over 3 pounds would have wrecked his rod and reel. Sorry, but I would need to see the fish to have believed him

he blew his chance to be famous with a new NH State record.

Went out this morning on Northwood Lake. Got on a good smallie bite for the first hour or 2 caught 4 smallies all in the 1lb range off a rocky ledge. All fish caught on black tubes. Also caught 2 decent sized pickerels. Hopefully venturing out today with the boat to some new waters try to get a big bite going. Here's a picture of 1 of the smallies

Grampa Casey always said, "believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see."

Got out tonight for a few hours on flints in Hollis. We really had to battle the wind the first hour fishing since we were in my canoe but we ended up nailing some nice fish on spinnerbaits a couple pushing 3 and lots of small ones as well as going through a fair amount of pickerel. Then as the wind settled down a bit we threw jigs and rage rigged lobsters which generated a few more bites and at the end of the day including my partners 5lbs PB
