Got a trolling motor this week, Minn Kota 30 lb thrust. I buzz along pretty good with it. Now know I can hit lakes

Ike Newfounf. Massabesic is and Merrimack River sections, and cover a Loy of water. Made my own motor mount from 2x4s and 4 carriage .bolts. I checked the Mill River Lin Nashua, very good accommodation , I think I will hit it Saturday

Decent time on Pleasant lake this past Saturday. Rage Tail spacemonkey on the biffle hardhead was the ticket.

mill river ?   do you mean the canal ?   where are you putting in?

Yes Nev, Mill Pond. I found the launch at Conway Arena. Nice gravel with no ruts. I have a small Hyundai and some launches are too beat up for anything less than a good sized truck. I plan on hitting NHTI after work next week, that has a good launch too. We're going to Silver Lake in Hollis today to use the beach but I will be scouting the fishing spots while I'm there, maybe even renting a yak to scope it out.,it's been a good vacation week for finding more lakes and ponds

Gonna go fishing today on my day off finally. Looking for somewhere that I know I'll have a good chance of getting my personal best today. Any suggestions? Will be heading out within the hour after I stop by and talk with my recruiter.

Hit Bow yesterday at 6AM.  Had a lot of action early on the Koppers Live Target Walking Frog.  Caught a few small ones, but must have had a dozen strike and misses.  It was very slow fishing after the topwater action stopped, but once again, on the jig and craw, I caught one slightly under 5lbs - pic below.  I will be hitting Bow during the week again for sure.  I was the only guy on the water for  hours.

At this time of year I have always had luck fishing any of the islands on the sides that are against the middle of the lake if you go in the morning hit the docks. But I have not fished it in two years because its a pain to launch a big boat by myself there. The water is very very clear.

It was very slow, Bob, but I managed 2 nice ones yesterday.  One close to 5lbs.  All near or around those islands in about 10'.  I didn't even venture to the deeper parts of the lake.  I'll be hitting Bow again for sure during the week very soon.  There was nobody on the water yesterday.

Just read the news about two people being rescued on Lake Sunapee because they were thrown out of their boat hitting a wake at high speed "the boat continued to circle till it hit rocks" for the love of all who's holy please wear the kill switch on you.

Fished Mill Pond in Nashua thus morning, first time there. Got 3 lmb over 2 pounds and a few smaller ones. Got the bigger ones on Senkos and a crappie swim bait. Not a bad place to fish, I was the only one there

If you put the time in at Mill pond you will find some good sized fish.   Cross all the way to the far end , as far away from the launch as you can get,   there are a few drops and deeper spots with some underwater trees , stumps or something.   If the weed , milfoil ? crap was not so thick many more people would fish it.   Because of that , although it gets much bank fishing , it really does not get that much pressure.  If you take the time to figure that place out , you will see it holds some really good sized fish.    I dont fish it enough.  Most of my buddies hate fishing it because of the weeds crap and they wont go.   which is fine.    if you are not enjoying fishing this way then you should be going somewhere else.   and thats what they do.     I will usually fish it many times early on in the year before the sunlight and heat make it grow so thick.    Shane called it a salad bowl a couple years ago when he came down and fished it.  and it most certainly is.     dont be surprised if you pull a meaty 7+ or even an 8 out of it.   If you take the time and lots of patience will probably be required.   it could bring you a really nice trophy pic.    I am betting when you find the big ones they will not be at the shore line.  they will be on some deeper structure chomping on some bigger baitfish.

Question for Shane or others: what situation calls for putting a craw, space monkey or any bait like that on a weighted swimbait hook (keel weighted). Is this really for sparse cover with a swimming type of presentation or would it be ok to flip it into the really thick stuff?

Thanks Nev, I appreciate your advice. I got hits right away on a beetle spin, small fish. I finally found decent ones around brush piles with the Senko. I was marking a lot of fish on the depth finder and most were sitting deep. I like that place, definitely part of the rotation of ponds. Now that I know a little more, I can adjust the lure selection for it. Thanks again

Did Mill pond in Nashua today. Funny thing is I read Nev's post on where the fish might be when I was on the pond haha I went down towards the opposite end of the ramp and fished the right side where the steep banks run off and I got into a huge fish, but he pulled into some brush and spit out my 10 in worm. After fishing there for 3 hours I switched it up and headed over to the Mines Falls ramp for the Nashua River. Holy hell that was a mistake so much slop it was hard to even fish not to mention paddling was tough. I did end up catching one bass though he was about a 1.5lber it was quite the slow day, but for the first time being there it was interesting to learn.

It's for when you want a swimming type retrieve, and a horizontal fall. I use it most in shallow grass, but yeah, I've flipped a Rage Rig.

Just took a look at your profile. You like bass fishing, deer hunting and camping. The military is very lucky to get a guy like you!

dragged /carried my yak here thru the woods out in Hollis this morning.   Took about 20 minutes or so to get to this water.  Thousands of Bees buzzing in the lilly pads,  the noise was driving me nuts.   other than that not a sound except for an occasional something in the woods,  deer, bear, moose , turkey etc...

That and the fish riping apart at my white snagproof mouse.

14 total   the 2 biggest at 19 inch.     not enough to catch Maine for July contest.

This past weekend I did some fishing with a good long time friend I hadn't seen in awhile. The plan was to fish as much as possible. We met Thursday evening to try a bit of night fishing. I usually don't have very good success when there is no moon. There was no moon Thursday night but we were going to try it any way. We started fishing around 830 and fished until 1130. It wasn't very windy but it was pitch black. My friend Aaron was fishing a frog and I chose to fish my usual night time arsenal, spinnerbait, chatterbait, and a buzzbait. The fishing wasn't exactly easy but we managed catch 8 bass before calling it a night. Biggest bass of the night was a 2 lb 15 oz.

On Friday we got out on the water at 8 am. It was a pretty nice day temps were in the lower 80s with not a whole lot of wind. The water temperature was 80 degrees.  The fishing was pretty slow for most of the day. Picking up a fish here and there. We hadn't caught much by 1 pm. While I ate my lunch I was deciding where to fish next and how to adjust my approach for the remainder of the day. After much though I decided that I would fish a deeper weed bed, my favorite sunken trees and a new spot I found that I like to call frog heaven or obvious reasons. It was time to motor.

Once we arrived at the deeper weed bed I told my friend to cast out. He did and quickly caught a 2.5 lber. A few casts later I hook into a lunker on the very edge of the weeds. It instantly goes air born and I tell my friend to get the net. It is a big fish and head shaking. It ripped of some drag as I hoped it would come off. As the fish gets to the boat my friend quickly nets it. It is a very well built 6 lb 3 oz that I caught on a rubber worm.

After such a slow morning it was nice to get that lunker in the boat. Over the next 30 min or so we caught several more nice bass but nothing of any size. It was time again to move to another spot, my favorite sunken trees.

There is a series of sunken and submerged trees in this pond which I very much like to fish. We pull up to the first tree and it looks as good as ever. I tell my friend Aaron that I hadn't caught any fisf off of it this year. He asks me why we are fishing it. It was a simple answer : because I have caught giant bass here in the past. Aaron is fishing his beloved senko and I have chosen to fish a jig. The tree is a bit deeper in 12 feet of water. On my second or third cast I can feel the jig going through some very thick tree branches and I feel a tick. I set the hook on what feels like a good fish. It gets wrapped around the tree but I manage to get it free. It was a good fish weighing in at 5 lbs 0 oz.

DSC007182_zpse8c6eb8d.jpg

We continue to fish that tree and fish the rest of my favorite trees. We caught some fish on the other trees but nothing 3 lbs or bigger. It was tie to make a move. It was getting a bit later. It was about 6 pm or so and time to go to frog heaven.

"Frog heaven" is an area where there is a very subtle unobvious channel with tons of thick lily pas as well as some mifoil around. I take my first cast with the frog and before I have the chance to even move it once a fish inhales it. My friend wasn't even able to cast and I had already had a fish on and in the boat a 4-11. After unhooking and weighing that fish I take another cast near where I had just caught that fish. The frog lands splat on the water and a fish makes a wake over to my frog and explodes on it before I could even twitch it. This fish weigh in at 4-10. My friend then catches a 3-4. We were catching fish nearly every cast at this spot, all on a frog. I ended up catching a 3-9 and a 3-0 before leaving the spot. My friend also caught another 3 lber before we left. We caught a lot of fish there before leaving once it was too dark to see. I ended up catching 14 largemouth and 4 smallmouth for the day. My friend Aaron caught 6 largemouth and 2 smallmouth.

The next day we decided to fish an unpressured lake. It was a 500 ft walk down a goat path to get to the lake. It was a pain getting my boat and all my gear down to the lake. I couldn't have done it by myself. It was a bit windy 5-10 mph out of the west and 80 degrees. I had never fished this lake before so I had no spots already in mind. I could see some tree out on 15 ft of water though. We went over and fished them with no luck. There really wasn't anything else to fish on this pond except for weed. We caught some fish but nothing really good. I did manage to find a rock pile where I caught a 3 lb 3 oz on a rubber worm. We had been out there for 5 hours and my friend wasn't having much luck. He wanted to go somewhere else. after deciding on another pond for the veing bite we were motoring over to the launch. We had to go right by the deep trees. I told him we had to fish them before we left. The first two trees sucked. We caught nothing off of them. We pull up to the 3rd tree and I let my friend take a coupe casts with his beloved senko on the tree before I cast my jig onto it. I pull the jig up and over the submerged base of the tree and before it hits bottom my line jumps.I set the hook hard into a nice fish, weighed in at 5 lbs 0 oz. At that pond from 8 am til about 1 pm I caught 10 bass and my friend caught 2.

DSC007262_zps26e32254.jpg

After that fish we still decide to go to another pond. After stopping and getting a pizza we are at the next pond and unloaded within an hour after leaving the past pond. The wind is still blowing but we fished a few places out of the wind. The fishing was much faster then the last pond. We were catching a lot of 2-2 3/4 lb fish. It was fin fishing. My friend caught a 3-6 and I caught a 3-11 both fish from the same off shore flat. We fished until dark 30 but didn't get any lunkers We finished the evening with 19 bass in the boat in about 6 hours of fishing.

It was a very fun and productive weekend of fishing. Hopefully everyone else had just as much luck.

Don't laugh at my horrible skills when it comes to fish selfies. but got into this nice 'lil 5lb 6oz'er after waiting out the thunderstorm in my truck yesterday. Glad i decided to wait after getting chased off of the water by a wall of a downpour in my little canoe.

Very nice fish, and all the more impressive because you stuck it out through the bad weather. Congrats!

Last week an outdoor journalist contacted me about writing an article on night fishing.  Yesterday afternoon I met him at the launch at 4 pm and fished until a bit after midnight. The weather was not ideal. A massive cold front had moved through the day accompanied by heavy rain. The lake level had risen over a foot the past 3 days due to the rain. The water temperature had dropped from 82 to 74 degrees. The wind was blowing out of the north west 5-10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. We had already made plans and were going to fish regardless.. The fishing during the day time was pretty good. We consistently catching fish. By nightfall we had caught over 30 fish but none over 3 lbs. We had caught a couple 2-12's and a few more over 2.5 lbs. It was pretty cold after dark. The fishing after dark was not as fast numbers wise but the fish we were catching were better sized fish. after dark I caught a 3-10, 3-4 and a 3-0 on a buzz bait. The action died off around midnight when it got really really cold. After another hour we called it a night. I caught 34 fish by the time we left and I would assume we caught well over 50 bass. The article will be in this sundays Burlington free press.

Ok guys I am going to Nubanusit today in Hancock. I know it's good smallie lake. Looking for some advice as to where to go and how should I be approaching it. Was thinking a Carolina Rig dragged on the bottom. I know it's a deep lake. Any suggestions?

Check it on on the Navionics website and target areas that have some drop offs. http://www.navionics.com/en/webapp-limited. I fished a tournament on Pleasant Lake last weekend and alot of the smallies were caught in 12-25 feet of water on Carolina Rigs and Drop Shots. Shouldnt be too much different at Nubanusit because they are both super clear water. Good luck.

Did 4 hours of fishing on Greateast lake today caught over 30 bass the biggest 4.6 the majority were caught skipping senkos into deep tree cover. Jigs worked for the known channels and chatterbaits caught the ones roaming around the weeds only caught one on a top water frog.
